COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 16, ABINGTON 5
(Submitted by CR North lacrosse)
In a showdown against a strong Abington Ghosts squad, Council Rock North’s defense set the tone early and never let up in a 16-5 nonleague victory
Captain Lucy Carney delivered another stellar performance, holding Abington standout Katie Pennekamp to just 3 goals. Anchored by defensive captains Keiley Lyons and Abby Steadman, along with Addison Kohler and Elle Gearhart, the Indians’ defense was nearly impenetrable.
With the defense locking things down, the draw circle became a key battleground—one that Council Rock North dominated. Ellie Carney and Catherine McBride each secured 8 draw controls, ensuring the Indians took possession throughout the game. MacKenzie Pyle also made a significant impact in the circle and across the field, stepping into a crucial role for the team.
Offensively, Gabby Mann orchestrated the attack with 6 assists. Mann’s pinpoint passing set up senior Lila Cohen for a goal, while the rest of her assists found the sticks of Carney and McBride.
Lilly Brand provided a pivotal moment, executing a brilliant move from X to score the go-ahead goal and give the Indians their first lead—a lead they never relinquished. Ellie Carney finished the night with five goals and one assist, while McBride put on an offensive clinic with a dominant nine-goal performance.
Up next: North (2-0 overall) is back in action at 4 pm today, on the road at George School. The Ghosts (1-1) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh at 3:45 pm Wednesday in The SOL opener for both teams.

SPRINGFIELD-DELCO 15, PENNRIDGE 7
The Rams trailed by two after one quarter, and it was still a two-goal game at halftime. The visiting Cougars outscored the Rams 8-2 to earn the non-league win.
“It was a hard loss this evening to Springfield Delco,” Pennridge coach Maddie Dachowski said. “We were ready to have a really intense game tonight, and overall, I am happy with how we played.”
Notable Stats: Madigan Posey (3 goals,1 assist, 5 draw controls), Leah Verespy (2 goals, 1 caused turnover,1 draw control), Gianna Leuthe (2 ground balls, 3 draw controls), Makenna Charles (2 ground balls, 2 caused turnovers), Taylor Burkett (1 goal, 2 draw controls)
Pennridge coach Maddie Dachowski on the game: “The first half had a lot of high points. We started the game with the first goal from Leah Verespy after a hard-fought ground ball by Abbey Keller, who played fantastic all night. We had a ton of back and forth all game, but the first quarter felt like it flew by. Defense did an amazing job tonight, and Springfield had almost 30 shots, Lily stayed strong in cage and as a unit we had some amazing takeaways, turnovers, and transitions. Defense is once again such a reliable unit out there, and this game is preparation for us to achieve another league title. That’s the focus in some of these out of conference games – face tough competitors that you know is a great team and use that to learn and improve. The second goal of the first quarter came at the end of the quarter from a caused turnover and ground ball from Makena Charles, who found Leah Verespy to Taylor Burkett in an amazing fast break finish. She utilized her speed and put the ball in the back of the net when we needed it.
“Going into the second quarter down two, it was nothing new for this team, and we were still incredibly motivated and ready for a fight. We only had 1 of 7 draws in the first, so that was step one for quarter two. The first two goals of the quarter were from Springfield, leaving us down by 4, not where we want to be at all. Madigan Posey had a quick answer to their 6th goal putting up our 3rd of the night off an 8m. They answered back, pulling the score back up by 4. We just needed to focus on winning the draw and getting offensive possession and smart plays. Leah Verespy put in her second of the night off a well-placed 8m. Her third multi-goal game in a row for the season. Leah is starting to really feel the momentum and leadership offensively. We have a lot of talent on the midfield line, but I am leaning on her to keep our offense on track. She is going to have a great season, and we have really seen high moments from her these past few games. Right after our fourth goal of the night, Madigan Posey with a dominant drive to hammer the ball in the back of the cage for our fifth. We had back-to-back draw controls from Bree Bailey that were essential to take us into half feeling good.”
–The second half: “The third quarter we just had too many turnovers and not enough production offensively. I told this group, if we want to win, we have to outscore this team. I knew we weren’t going to stop them from getting goals, it was just about us getting more. We had two yellow cards in the third quarter, so it was difficult to balance holding the ball to even strength and going to goal because we needed some. There was not much we could do, as the game was getting very hot at this point and both teams were very aggressive. Our only goal in the third came from Madigan Posey who was found cutting through the 8m by Maddie Boyer. Posey completed her hat trick, already her third on the season.
“After the third, it was 6-10 but we were still very much in the game. The fourth quarter was very dominant by Springfield. We only had one early goal by Cayla Wurz from a Madigan Posey feed. We could just not get possession off the draw. We played defense almost the whole quarter. They were taking time off the clock and stalling a bit, making us have no choice but to pressure. We got two yellow cards in the fourth, which is when they ran the score up. I don’t feel like the score reflected how close the game was, and it’s unfortunate that it ended at 7-15. I am proud of the team, and overall, there is not much we can do when were down for 8 minutes of the game off of 4 cards. Against such a talented team, we won’t win games man down for that long. We did not stop fighting and stayed strong through the end.”
–Moving forward: “Going into Wednesday, we need to focus on offensive production, consistency, and overall shooting. We have tons of mistakes right now and it is starting to be glaring each game. We are not strong enough at 8ms at the moment and that needs to change. We need to be a confident and strong unit, with the caliber of players we have we just need to produce more. Decision making and sticking to the game plan are a high focus going in to rest of the week. We have our first league game Wednesday vs. North Penn and we are ready for a great game at home and strong start to conference play.”

The defense held strong, backed by a stellar performance from our three goalies, Megan Robinson, Giselle Bonner, and Emery Harrsion who made crucial saves to keep the momentum in our favor. PENNRIDGE 8, SPRING-FORD 6
In a battle of the Rams, the Pennridge Rams found themselves on the short end of a 3-1 score at the end of one quarter but rallied to knot the score 4-4 by halftime. The third quarter turned out to be the difference in the game as Pennridge outscored Spring-Ford on its way to the win.
Leah Verespy’s hat trick led Pennridge’s attack.
Notable stats: Madigon Posey (2goals, 1 assist, 2 GB, 5 DC), Leah Verespy (3 goals, 3 DC, 3 GB), Harper Posey (3 GB, 1 CTO), Norah Herbst (3 CTO, 1GB), Abbey Keller (2 GB, 2 CTO)
Pennridge coach Maddie Dachowski on the game: “Another great game for the Pennridge Rams. We went into today knowing this was our toughest matchup we have seen yet this season, and we prepared for a battle the entire way through. Looking at the stat sheet from last season, they had a ton of strong returners, and we knew what to expect – a lot of speed, strong offensive unit, and talented shooters. The first quarter the only player to score for Pennridge was Maddie Boyer, freshman attacker, who has been fantastic on our offensive unit so far this year. She just has a nose for the goal and drives with a ton of power, she is very hard to stop. Nothing short of typical for us to have a slower start on the scoring end, something I have been working with the unit to shake. It’s not the worst thing for this team to start slow, if the slow start is the key to our wins, I’ll take it!
“The second quarter, we finally got our groove offensively. We put three in the back of the net in the second, first of the three was a wide open look to Leah Verespy from an under pressure Cayla Wurz. Their connection in back-to-back games has been solid. Next was Madigan Posey with a powerful drive notching her first of the game. Last goal of the quarter was Maddie Boyer again, using her speed and strength in transition for a goal after five minutes of back and forth pl. The score was at 4-4 going into halftime.”
–The second half: “I felt comfortable at halftime. Even though I would prefer a lead at the half, the only reason we were tied was because of mistakes we were making, not necessarily crazy defensive plays that they were coming up with. At that point, we were holding ourselves back. I reminded everyone they needed to lock in and do their job. We talked about unacceptable turnovers or drops, and I told the team to reel it in and stay clean. I could feel the fires burning on both ends, and we were both going into that half with a ton of heat. The game changer for us in the second half was gaining more possession off the draw controls. Spring-Ford has talented circle players and a draw specialist, so I knew that was going to be a big focus this game.
“Madigan Posey scored her second and final of the day on a free position shot, putting us in the lead. Spring-Ford quickly responded off the next position tying the game up at 5-5. Aubrey Bailey was finally able to spark some offensive productivity on a flash cut through the middle and an assist from Harper Posey to get the job done. We were able to gain more offensive possession and find more creativity. Leah Verespy scored the next goal posted up in the 8m off an assist from Madigan Posey. The fourth and final goal of the quarter was one of the most electric of the season. After an offensive miscommunication, SF got the ball and was pushing the fast break with about 20 seconds on the clock. A quick turnover on their end and a ground ball by Delaney Dodge, we were quickly pushing back and rushing to get the ball down the field. Maddie Boyer sent in a risky but necessary feed to a streaming down Leah Verespy, who turned to get a shot off, and quickly adjusted to turn and rip a twirler top left corner with seconds left on the clock. I am so proud of Leah for taking this chance in the game today, and it absolutely paid off. This is something that we have been practicing and utilizing as options in practice and I’m so glad we were able to see that showcased today.
“The fourth quarter was filled with turnovers and defensive stops. We went scoreless on the fourth, as we remained focused on possession and control. Spring-Ford had a great defensive unit, and I am very happy with the listening and focus we executed. Spring-Ford put up their sixth and final goal late in the fourth, but it was too little too late for the Spring-Ford Rams because we could already feel the victory. An essential draw control reeled in by Leah Verespy took us to the final minutes in the game where we kept cool and ran out the clock for the win.
“Overall, another great win feels so good for this team. We have a huge game Monday vs Springfield Delco, and this is what we needed to prepare for it. Defense has shown so much consistency for the start of this season I am so happy with how this unit is working, from the starters to the depth off the bench, it has been more than I could ask for. Each of our defenders is an essential piece to this team, and without them holding down the fort, we wouldn’t find as much success. Lily Blair had an amazing showing with 11 saves in cage. Excited for what’s next for this team, all eyes right now are on Monday night.”
