National Conference
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 8, SOUDERTON 7
Mia Schink did it again.
With the game tied and just 3 minutes remaining in regulation, Schink scored what would stand as the game-winning goal as Council Rock South edged Souderton 8-7 in a thrilling National Conference matchup.
Not only was it Schink’s second goal of the game, but her decisive goal on Wednesday was the second time this season that Schink scored a game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter.
Liz Hearn led the Golden Hawks with 3 goals and 2 assists, and goalkeeper Gabby Terekhov came up huge in the second half to boost South.
The loss was the first of the season for the Indians, winners of five straight to open the season.
By the numbers: Council Rock South: Camryn Brundage (1 goal, 4 DC, 3 CTO), Kelly Longmore (2 goals, 2 DC), Ella Mayberry (2 DC), Mia Schink (2 goals), Mia Geneles (3 assists), Liz Hearn (3 goals, 2 assists).
Council Rock South coach Marina Shreiner: “This is huge. I think it was important for them to see that they can hold on even if it’s not their best performance and really just persevere when things aren’t necessarily going your way. Being able to continue playing our game and coming out with a win was huge for us and will help us going into our next game Friday.”
—The fourth quarter: “We were up by one with 10 minutes left, and they tied it 7-7 with 8 minutes left, and then it was a possession game. Possession went back and forth – because it was cold, we definitely had some mistakes with our stick skills. With 3 minutes left, Mia Schink scored the eighth goal. It’s the second game Mia Schink scored the game-winning goal.
“From there, it was a possession game. With a minute left, we had possession, and we turned it over. Our defense made a really big stop down at the end, and we were able to get possession back and maintain it for the last 30 seconds of the game. When we lost possession with a minute left, it was definitely a little tense, but our defense – Emerson Wackowski, Ali Rakszawski, Riley Burke, Kenna Pytlewski, and Layla Goldman – did a really good job of maintaining composure and getting that turnover.”
—Big stops: “We had possession most of the game, we just couldn’t finish. We had 20 shots, but we had trouble executing and getting the goals. Our goalie – Gabby Terekhov – had some huge stops in the third quarter – she had two big stops in a row. They came down, she stopped them and then she did it one more time. That could have been a big momentum shift if those ended up as goals. She did have a couple of really key saves.”
Up next: Souderton (5-1, 0-1 SOL) visits Council Rock North at 5 pm Friday. The Golden Hawks (4-1, 1-0) will host Pennsbury at 7 pm Friday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 12, BENSALEM 6
(Submitted by Council Rock North girls lacrosse)
Council Rock North girls’ lacrosse team overcame a tough challenge from Bensalem, securing a 12-6 victory in a gritty, hard-fought matchup in both teams’ National Conference opener on Wednesday.
The star of the night was Gabby Mann, who delivered a historic performance with 1 goal and 7 assists — an assist mark that is believed to be a new school record, surpassing her previous career-best of 6 assists set earlier this week. Mann’s playmaking ability was on full display as she orchestrated the offense, setting up teammates and keeping the attack fluid.
Ellie Carney once again led the scoring effort, netting 5 goals while also making her presence known all over the field with eight draw controls and a ground ball. Addison Deppi contributed with 1 goal and 1 ground ball, while Lila Cohen, Kate Hora, and Mann each added a goal to round out the offensive effort.
Keiley Lyons and Abbey Steadman anchored the backline, helping to keep Bensalem’s attack in check. Lyons recorded 2 ground balls and a forced turnover, while Steadman added another crucial forced turnover to disrupt Bensalem’s offensive rhythm.
Up next: Bensalem (3-2, 0-1 SOL) will be back in action today, traveling to Central Bucks West for a 2:30 pm game. Council Rock North (5-0, 1-0) hosts Souderton at 5 pm Friday.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 13, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 6
Led by sophomore Cece Hayes, CB East opened up their league play with a victory against crosstown rival CB South. The Patriots – propelled by Hayes’ 9 draw controls – were dominant in the faceoff circle, and their draw wins proved to be the difference in their win in Wednesday’s conference opener. Hayes also led East’s attack with four goals.
Addy Geary led the Titans with 4 goals and Elia Kafel made 10 saves in the face of a steady East attack.
By the numbers: Central Bucks South: Addy Geary (4 goals, 2 CTO, 3 GB, 1 DC), Tessa Walls (1 goal, 3 CTO, 3 GB, 1 DC), Sarah Victor (1 goal), Kaylee Conner (1 assist), Kaeli Vandersluis (1 CTO), Alivia Lloyd (1 CTO), Ella Kim (1 DC), Elia Kafel (10 saves).
Central Bucks East: Cece Hayes (4 goals, 1 assist, 9 DC), Paige Dougherty (3 goals, 6 DC), Natalie Berndt (2 goals, 4 DC), Emma Weisel (1 goal, 2 assists), Amanda Ries (1 goal, 1 assist), Megan Fahey (1 goal, 1 assist), Alexis To (1 goal)
Central Bucks East coach Kelly Tait: “Cece Hayes really controlled the midfield with 9 draw controls and led our scoring with 4 goals. All of our midfielders worked really hard to come up with the draw and get the ball down into our attacking end. I’m so proud of the girls, they really are coming together and working really well as a unit. They did a great job settling the ball and working it around finding scoring opportunities.
“Every player in the offensive end scored a goal today and 4 different players had assists. We know that South is always a formidable opponent, and they have some very talented shooters. Our girls did a great job controlling the time of possession and kept the ball in our offensive end for most of the second half. When the ball did end up in our defensive end, our girls did a great job sliding and locking down their player. It was a full team effort, and I am really proud of how they played.”
Central Bucks South coach Janique Craig: “CB East dominated the draw, with 17 draw controls, which gave them momentum throughout the game. Possession off the draw proved to be the difference-maker. When we had the opportunities on attack, we executed well, but not securing the draw limited our chances. Winning the draw is critical, and CBE capitalized by consistently gaining possession.”
Up next: The Patriots (3-0, 1-0 SOL) visit North Penn Friday for a 7 pm game. South (1-4, 0-1) will host Archbishop Wood at 3:30 pm Friday.

PENNRIDGE 14, NORTH PENN 3
The visting Rams jumped out to a 5-2 lead, held the Knights scores for two quarters and earned a convincing 13-3 win in Wednesday’s league opener.
Gianna Leuthe’s six-point game led the Rams.
Notable Stats: Pennridge: Gianna Leuthe (4 goals, 2 assists, 2 ground balls, 1 caused turnover, 5 draw controls), Leah Verespy (1 goal, 4 ground balls, 1 draw control), Taylor Burkett (2 assists, 3 ground balls, 1 draw control)m Julia Lenox (2 ground balls, 1 caused turnover), Natalie Berke (2 ground balls, 2 caused turnovers)
By the numbers: North Penn: Quinn Rodoff (1 goal), Maddie Gorman (1 goal, 6 DC), Emma Zeltt (1 goal), Katie Harkins (1 DC), Caylynn Thompson (10 saves).
Pennridge coach Maddie Dachowski: “An exciting and fun night for the Rams as we took on our first league game vs North Penn. We went in to today with the game plan to have rotations on the midfield, defense and attacking end to work on building our depth and get opportunity to see a ton of different players. It was a fun game to watch, and we had 9 different goal scorers tonight.”
–The first half: “The first quarter started hot for us coming up with the first draw control which led to the first goal from Gianna Leuthe 30 seconds later. The next goal came from Madigan Posey off an 8m, Madigan is our most efficient 8m shooter at the moment, so I have no doubt when she is on the line she will come up with the goal. The next to score for the Rams was Gianna Leuthe on back-to-back goals, completing her hat trick only eight minutes in. It’s great to see Gianna back in the lineup. She took two games off to work through a small injury and
was eager to make a big impact tonight now that she is back to full strength. She is not only a force on offense she is amazing on the circle, and we rely on her to gain possession for us on the draw, she came up with five tonight and sits at 14 on the season in four games. Our last to score in the first was a cutting Leah Verespy off an assist from Gianna Leuthe. Leah, usually a goal scorer and playmaker, took on a different role tonight and was very strong in keeping possession our way, and had a career high of four ground balls tonight was great to see.
“Going into the second we were up 5-2 and there was really no stopping us. We got the first possession on a draw control from Madigan Posey, who had three on the night and leads the team on the season with 22 draw controls in 6 games. After some quick ball movement and an almost turnover, Taylor Burkett came up with a huge ground ball and immediately found a cutting Harper Posey to score her birthday goal. Harper has done a great job this year and is putting in a ton of work on and off the field. Harper is a defender and always has been, but I told her I wanted her to be a part of the midfield this year. I know that playing with her sister Madigan will help Harper get to the next level on this team and as quickly as possible. Harper is an asset each game between the 30s and on defense, always coming up with caused turnovers and ground balls. I am excited to watch her continue to develop her offensive IQ and confidence putting the ball in the back of the net. After a bit of back-and-forth play, our next goal was a back to back feed from Taylor Burkett to Cayla Wurz, who got her first of the night. Next, Bree Bailey wanted a piece of the action and notched her first and only of the night off a well-placed 8m goal. Our last goal of the first half came from Cayla Wurz who notched her second on a 1v1 crease drive. When Cayla is on, she is on, and there really is no stopping her if she has a step on you at the crease.”
–The second half: “Going into the second half, we were focused on keeping North Penn scoreless for the rest of the game, and finding new looks on the offensive end. In a game like tonight, everyone wants a piece of the action getting goals. The first of the quarter went to Madigan Posey who hit another 8m for her second of the night. Our second and final of the quarter was a feed from Gianna Leuthe to a cutting Maddy Boyer. The third quarter had a lot of missed opportunities offensively, just missed shots or dropped feeds. NP stalled for the last three minutes which was interesting, I think they were waiting for us to overplay them and take drive, but our unit is skilled and patient and we held out the D and kept NP scoreless for back to back quarters.
“Going into the final quarter, we were sticking to the game plan and having fun. It was nice to see the starters take a step back and support their fellow teammates in getting their opportunities. The first of the quarter was Gianna Leuthe’s fourth coming off of an 8m. She had a six-point game which was great to see. The second of the quarter came from Colbie Landherr with her second of the season, who was found streaming through the 8m by Cayla Wurz. Our last goal of the quarter was from Lily Quigley, who scored her first career varsity goal with a beautiful left-hand drive to and finish.”
–A team effort: “Overall, it was a fun game, and we are excited to bring this energy and game plan in to our game vs Neshaminy this Friday. Our defense had another great night with great stops, caused turnovers, and strong change of possession moments. We kept NP scoreless for over 30 minutes of play. Props to Julia Lenox who had some great plays tonight and flashy runs up the midfield. I also have to give some credit to the offensive unit and their ride. We have worked hard to develop a strong ride that does a great job slowing ball and causing turnovers. Taylor Burkett has taken on a huge role in this part of the game plan, and it is amazing to watch her hustle and fight. We are looking forward to Friday’s game and are ready to go into the weekend of nice weather with a win.”
Up next: North Penn (2-2, 0-1 SOL) looks to rebound when it hosts Central Bucks East at 4 pm today. Pennridge (5-1, 1-0) will visit Neshaminy at 3:30 pm Friday.

“I am just so proud of the girls for the way they played together as a unit,” said Spartans coach Katrina Metz Borzelleca. “During the games, momentum can swing, mistakes can happen, and things can change. Springfield Twp coach Katrina Metz Borzelleca: “These girls pick each other up and support each other whenever they can and whenever it is needed. I love that almost every goal of ours was assisted today. It shows how the attackers are looking for each other and play selflessly. Our defense has been growing together since our first game this season and they are so fun to watch. Their communication and play together is really shining through. Shannon (Silvius) played a solid game both on offense and also defensively helping keep UM’s leading scorer to only two goals. Stormii (Schock-Sprague) is our goalie this year, and she has come up clutch in many games for us, too. I am so excited to see this group continue to grow together as we head into the next game.”
Upper Moreland coach Kim Frantz: “This game was a battle of defense. At both ends, defense was tough and played their hearts out. Keiley Hawk really had a great game and was all over the field. As a whole, we are still working to fill holes from last year and just come together as a unit. Each game gets a little better, but we are still growing as a team.”
