Nonleague
WISSAHICKON 14, PENNRIDGE 13
Emma Greenberg and her Wissahickon teammates celebrated Senior Night in the best way possible.
The Trojans’ senior scored the game-winning goal with 6 seconds left on the clock as the Trojans pulled out a thrilling 14-13 victory over Pennridge in Monday’s Suburban One crossover game featuring two of the top teams in the entire league.
Wissahickon held a seemingly comfortable 9-5 lead at halftime, but the Rams chipped away in the second half to get within striking distance. The Trojans found themselves ahead 13-11 late in the fourth quarter, but Pennridge netted 2 goals to knot the score at 13-13 with 41 seconds left in regulation. The Trojans took the ensuing draw, and Lila Marciniak – who finished the game with 2 goals and 2 assists – found Greenberg, who made no mistake, firing home her third goal of the game to give the Trojans the Senior Night victory.
Sophia Stehlik led the Trojans with 4 goals and added 4 draw controls. Ava Fell made 4 saves to earn the win in the cage.
For the Rams, Madigan Posey had a 3-goal game, reaching the 100-goal plateau for her varsity career. Aubrey Bailey, and Gianna Leuthe each also added 3 goals for the Rams, who have clinched at least a tie for the National Conference title and can claim it outright with a season-ending win over Souderton on Wednesday.
The Wissahickon senior class – Christine Aemissinger, Olivia Bellinzoni, Ellie Stein, Maddie Radell, Alexa McCabe and Emma Greenberg – were honored before the game in Senior Night ceremonies.
By the numbers: Pennridge: Leah Verespy (1 goal, 2 assists, 3 DC), Taylor Burkett (1 goal, 2 DC), Cayla Wurz (2 goals, 1 assist), Madigan Posey (3 goals, 1 assist, 4 DC, 1 CTO), Aubrey Bailey (3 goals, 1 GB, 1 CTO), Gianna Leuthe (3 goals, 1 assist, 2 DC, 1 GB, 1 CTO), Emma Gall (1 assist), Norah Herbst (3 CTO), Delaney Dodge (1 GB, 2 CTO).
Wissahickon: Sophia Stehlik (4 goals, 4 DC, 1 GB), Lila Marciniak (2 goals, 2 assists, 8 DC), Emma Greenberg (3 goals, 1 assists, 5 DC), Maddie Radell (2 goals, 1 assists, 1 CTO), Sam Farno (2 goals, 1 assist, 2 GB, 1 CTO), Alexa McCabe (1 goal), Ava Fell (4 saves).
Wissahickon coach Chuck Wurzbach: “It was an extremely exciting game. We were joined prior the game by the Wisslax youth players to celebrate our seniors and they stayed to cheer the team on. I think that really had the team pumped up to play and we were able to build a lead going into halftime. Credit to Pennridge for coming out in the second half and making adjustments that gave them the momentum. We knew they were a talented team and that we would have our hands full.”
—Honoring the senior class: “I am really proud of the contributions and leadership provided by our seniors – Christine Aemissinger, Olivia Bellinzoni, Ellie Stein, Maddie Radell, Alexa McCabe and Emma Greenberg. Having had the opportunity to be around them all, some for the past decade, has been a tremendous honor. I wish them nothing but happiness and success as they head off to college.”
—Props: “Emma Greenberg has come up big in big moments all year long and this time it was no exception. Some players are just made for situations like tonight. Maddie Radell and Sophia Stehlik also showed real grit tonight. It gets no easier when we face off against Upper Dublin on Wednesday.”
Pennridge coach Maddie Dachowski: “The girls fought until the end but couldn’t hold off Wissahickon in the final seconds with a shot that put them over the edge with no time left to spare. This is one of the most aggressive games I have coached in my career. Both teams showed tremendous fight, speed, and skill all over the field. Falling in a hole in the first half put us in a position to fight back all night. The girls were giving it their all, but it was not enough. We can learn from this loss as it will prepare us for playoff games to come.”
—Posey’s milestone in the first quarter: “In the first quarter, Madigan Posey started the scoring with the first point of the game. Madigan’s goal marked her 100th career goal and we celebrated her achieving this high milestone. Madigan has been one of the top players for the Rams all season long. On a team of such talent and so many people that contribute on the offensive end, this is not an easy mark to achieve. And to see her accomplish this as a junior makes me so proud as a coach. Watching Madigan on the field, she was just born to play this sport. She smart, fast, aggressive, and just finds a way to get the ball in the back of the net. She gives everything and more to this team and we were so happy to celebrate this night with her.
“The second and only other goal of the first quarter was Aubrey Bailey, who has been on fire the past few games on both ends of the field. We ended the quarter 2-5, desperate for more offensive sets.”
—The second quarter: “The second quarter was a lot of the same – turnovers on the offensive end and we just had a really hard time getting draw controls. When we had the ball, I knew we could score. Our shooting looked solid and we just needed to rely on ball movement. Madigan Posey put up her second of the game 5 minutes into the quarter. Gianna Leuthe was next, putting up her first off an 8m. Last to score for the Rams in the first half was Aubrey Bailey off a Cayla Wurz assist. We ended the quarter 5-9 and needing to find a way to turn the momentum.”
—The third quarter: “Going in the second half, we needed to stay composed and get the ball into the back of the net. At this point, Wissahickon had 3 yellow cards and we had 1. I wish we could have played this to our advantage, but we ended up letting it get the best of us and both teams had 3 cards by the end of the third. There was a ton of back-and-forth in the quarter and we had a very impressive defensive stand. Wissahickon was only able to put up 1 goal in the third, which was our chance to pull the score closer in reach. Madigan Posey came up with some must-win draw controls in the third, leading us to control most of the quarter. Cayla Wurz was the first to score in the third, just 30 seconds in. Leah Verespy was next and put up her first off an assist from Emma Gall. Cayla Wurz wanted more and put up her second of the night with 3 minutes left in the third, bringing the score to 8-10 with a few minutes left.”
—The final quarter: “The fourth quarter was a complete battle. Both teams marked their fourth yellow cards and we played down for the final 6 minutes of the quarter. This was a long game and the girls fought so hard to come back in the fourth. At one point, the score was 9-13, but the girls never stopped. They believed in themselves and knew the game was not over. Aubrey Bailey put up the first goal of the fourth, completing her fourth hat trick of the season. Gianna Leuthe was back-to-back with goals, the first assisted by Leah Verespy and the second off the 8m. These two completed her hat trick, her sixth on the year. There was another card thrown, and it was hard to see where the foul was, this brought us down another player.
“We didn’t stop fighting, Madigan Posey scored off an 8m with 51 seconds left, bringing the score within 1. We came up with the draw and Madigan found Taylor Burkett for her first of the night when it mattered most. Taylor ties up the score and it was 13-13 with 41 seconds left. Wissahickon came up with the game-deciding draw control, which made the end of the game a defensive battle. We were right there fighting for the ball as hard as we could, they were able to attack the backside where we didn’t have number and score the game-winner with 6 seconds left.”
—Learning from the loss: “We walked away with a really tough loss tonight. As much as I know we fought so hard and the girls put so much into this game, we were still just missing some pieces. It’s the small things that add up. Turning the ball over in transition or unforced turnovers on attack, they just killed us. This felt like a team loss, and we hope to learn from it and be more prepared next time. We look forward to hosting Souderton on Wednesday as we celebrate Senior Night and fight to officially secure our league title! We are excited for postseason and are ready for more battles like this one.”
Up next: The schedule-makers couldn’t have hoped for a better finish. A battle of the undefeated teams in SOL play will see Wissahickon (9-0 American Conference) clash with neighborhood rival Upper Dublin (10-0 American Conference) at 3:30 pm Wednesday with the American Conference title on the line. If the Cardinals win, they will claim the crown outright. If the Trojans win, they are assured of at least a tie (and would then be able to clinch the title outright in their season finale against Lower Moreland set for 5 pm Friday). The Rams can claim the National Conference title outright when they host Souderton on Senior Night at 7 pm Wednesday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 10, ABINGTON 9
Abington senior goalkeeper Jadyn Bagby achieved a rare milestone in Monday’s game, recording her 500th save.
The Ghost keeper entered the game with 492 saves and finished the day with 10 more, eclipsing the 500-save mark and putting her at 502.
“Jadyn is the true anchor of our team,” said Abington coach Meg MacClain. “Her consistency and dedication in the net is incomparable.”
Despite Bagby’s efforts, Abington dropped a nailbiting 10-9 decision to Central Bucks East in Monday’s American Conference game.
East got on the board with 3 quick goals and took a 3-2 lead after the first quarter but found themselves down by one at halftime. The Patriots regained the lead in the third quarter and held on through the final frame. East goalie Abby DiAmico came up with multiple clutch saves with less than a minute left in the game to secure the victory for the Patriots.
Cece Hayes led the Patriots with 5 goals and 1 assist while also adding 6 draw controls. Addison Doyle led the Abington attack with 4 goals.
By the numbers: Abington: Abby Ellner (1 CTO, 1 GB), Nora Luskin (2 goals, 3 CTO, 1 DC), Charlotte Lowery (2 goals), Addison Doyle (4 goals), Katie Pennekamp (1 goal, 1 CTO, 1 DC), Olivia Capps (1 CTO, 2 DC), Carly Hughes (1 CTO, 1 GB), Sophia Afflisio (1 assist), Joanna Duff (2 CTO), Grace Warchol (1 GB), Katie Egan (1 CTO), Jadyn Bagby (1 CTO, 10 saves).
Central Bucks East: Cece Hayes (5 goals, 1 assist, 6 DC, 2 CTO), Natalie Berndt (2 goals, 2 assists, 6 DC, 1 CTO), Paige Dougherty (1 goal, 2 assists, 3 DC), Emma Weisel (1 goal, 1 CTO), McKenna Lynch (1 goal), Bella DeHaven (1 CTO, 2 GB), Kayla Matlack (1 CTO, 2 GB), Abby DiAmico (6 saves).
Central Bucks East coach Kelly Tait: “Today was a really exciting, competitive game. The rain made it miserable for all of the players, but it didn’t seem to dampen the effort or intensity shown on the field. Cece Hayes had an outstanding game with 5 goals and 6 draw controls, she also was a vocal leader on defense and limited Abington’s shooting opportunities. Natalie Berndt also had a great all-around game with 6 draw controls, 2 goals, and 2 assists – she seemed to be in the right spots at the right times today and came up with some great plays in key moments. I thought all of our girls across the board played really well today despite the rain, and they worked really well together to keep the ball out of the defensive zone and get it up field cleanly to the attack.”
—Props: “Both goalies had great games today. Abington’s goalie did not make it easy on our attack today and she also recorded her 500th save, which is a huge number and great accomplishment. Our goalie, Abby DiAmico, was instrumental in our victory today. She faced multiple free position shots with less than a minute left in the game and came up with huge saves. It was nerve-wracking to watch from the sideline but Abby kept her cool and came up big.”
Up next: The Patriot (8-7, 3-5 SOL) host Pennsbury at 7 pm Wednesday. Abington (7-9, 6-4) will visit William Tennent at 3:30 pm Wednesday.
Abington 2 4 1 2 – 9

CHELTENHAM 9, DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY 7
Cheltenham came out with a 9-7 win in a nonconference matchup against Dock Mennonite Academy. Heading into the fourth quarter with a 9-3 lead, Cheltenham had to be very intentional with their decision-making in the last few minutes of play. Dock picked up momentum after a few quick goals from a yellow card man-down situation, but ultimately Cheltenham came out with the win.
Brianna Gardner and Maggie Leighton each scored 3 goals for the Panthers, while goalkeeper Megan Robinson racked up 10 saves.
By the numbers: Cheltenham: Brianna Gardner (3 goals, 4 DC), Mia Haugen (1 goal, 3 DC), Maggie Leighton (3 goals), Marelle Johnston (1 goal), Ella King (1 goal), Megan Robinson (10 saves).
Cheltenham coach Emily Towey: “Our defense had some incredible stops in the first two quarters, allowing our girls to take the lead in the beginning of the game. Attack was producing on fast breaks and settled because of smart decision-making. When we got a yellow card forcing us man down, we fell a little short in adapting but overall played really well. This was a great reminder that it’s never over until it’s over. Dock had a strong momentum run in the fourth quarter and kept us on our toes. Every game is an opportunity to learn and grow, and I think we did exactly that. Brianna Gardner really led us on both ends of the field today – she’s an asset to our program in so many ways.”
Up next: The Panthers (9-6 overall, 3-6 SOL) host Quakertown today for a 3:30 pm conference matchup.
