Upper Moreland saw its season come to an end at the hands of District 1 2A champion Bishop Shanahan. Check out the Black Bear Lacrosse recap.
PIAA Class 2A quarterfinal
#1-1 Bishop Shanahan 11, #1-4 Upper Moreland 7
The Golden Bears saw their season come to an end in a state quarterfinal contest but not before rallying from a 9-2 halftime deficit to outscore the Eagles 6-2 in the second half.
“What I am most proud of for this team today is we never gave up,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “It would have been easy to give up after the first half, but they didn’t.
“They fought together and battled that second half to hold Bishop Shanahan to just two goals compared to our six goals. We just had a slow start to start the game, but once we found our rhythm, we were able to battle and be more competitive as the game went on.”
Olivia Meakim and Annalise Messina led the Golden Bears with three goals each. Meakim added an assist, and Messina contributed an assist, five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Willow Taylor had one goal and two draw controls.
In goal for the Golden Bears, Addi Hurley had 12 saves.
“While we are all sad this season has come to an end, I could not be more proud of our seniors, Molly Meakim, Olivia Meakim, Maggie Morrow, WIllow Taylor, and Cambrie Richmond,” Frantz said. “They have led this team to an incredible season and will be greatly missed in the future.
“I am grateful for every athlete on this team. They worked hard every day, had great attitudes, always got along with each other, and number one, they appreciated every day we had together. I couldn’t have asked for more from them this season.”
Upper Moreland closed out its season with an 18-6 record overall and a 9-2 record in SOL action
