No. 13 Central Bucks South 12, No. 20 Council Rock North 9
Anthony Depedro was key to getting Central Bucks South started. He also did a nice job finishing for the Titans as well.
Depedro went 15-of-19 from the face-off circle, scooped up 16 ground balls, and also had two goals and an assist as the 13th ranked Titans overcame a slow start to power past No. 20 Council Rock North in Tuesday’s first-round matchup.
“Our face-off guy Anthony just never quit,” said South coach Mike Strayline. “He worked so hard to win possessions and once we started shooting in our spots it started to click.”
The Titans surrendered four goals in the second quarter and went into halftime trailing the Indians 5-2. But South netted five goal in each the third and fourth quarters to come back and pull ahead.
“We had a plan and it worked, we just got off to a slow start,” Strayline said. “Our defense adjusted in the second half and we created a bunch of turnovers in the ride. We got momentum and never looked back. This was a great team win.”
Matt Waltrich had two goals and one assist for the Titans. Landon Amorim scored twice and had two GB, Alex Fessler had two goals and one GB, Keith Conner scored once and assisted on three others, Jack Auerbach and Mark Etgen each chipped in with a goal and an assist, and Marcello Diprinzio had a goal and two GB.
Dom Varacallo recorded 10 saves for the Titans, who also received strong efforts from James Vargason (2 CTO, 2 GB), John Henson (3 GB, 1-for-1 FO), and Blake Bernstein (2-for-3 FO).
Council Rock North ends its season at 9-9 overall. The Titans improve to 11-7, and will visit fourth-seeded Radnor at 7 pm Thursday for a second-round game.
“I am retiring at the end of the season and the boys wanted to get me one more win,” Strayline said. “I love these kids and I’m going to miss being a part of CB South lacrosse, but I’m happy we won our last home game of the season and my career.”
