Falcon Field – Oh My!!!
Pennsbury was stung last week by North Penn (6-3, 5-1) to lose its unbeaten season – 24-21. But the angry Falcons (8-1, 5-1) reacted to that sting with a fury and collected a punishing 55-7 victory over visiting Central Bucks South (7-2, 5-1) in a Suburban One League National Conference game that was dominated by the Black and Orange after the first minute of play.
And in a game that featured 785 yards of total offense – 553 of those yards by Pennsbury – 443 of those PHS yards on the ground – it was a one-yard gain in the first period that sealed the deal for the Falcons. Game-breaking senior Titan running back Josh Adams – Notre Dame University-bound Josh Adams – stumbled for that one-yard gain and left the field with what was called a high-ankle sprain. He did not return and finished the game with just three rushing yards on five carries.
“Josh took a shot to the ankle, and he didn’t have a lot of strength in it,” said CB South head coach Tom Hetrick. “He will get an X-ray to see what’s going on, but I would think that he would be able to play next week.
“I would like to think that we would have players step up and make plays without Josh in the game,” added Hetrick. “Sometimes you just have to live and learn.”
The painful lesson learned by CB South – and on display for the Senior Night crowd in attendance – was that the relentless Pennsbury offense could not be stopped.
“We scored 55 points against an excellent football team,” said Pennsbury head coach Galen Snyder. “Let’s just say that we were ready to go.
“Them missing Adams for most of the game might have had an effect on the game,” continued. “But hey – we scored 55 points.”
“We watched a lot of film – and we knew that South could score a lot of points with Adams on the field,” said Pennsbury senior running back Charles Snorweah who rushed for a game-high 163 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns to go along with a 69-yard touchdown reception. “But we felt that we could score a lot of points, too.
“We lost last week – but we didn’t want to have that loss play a role in us losing this week,” added Snorweah. “We had a mindset to play a good football game tonight.”
And the Falcons did just that scoring 55 unanswered points after CB South opened the scoring with a 61-yard scoring pass from senior quarterback Kevin Witchey to Adams. Tyler Fischer added the PAT and the Titans held a 7-0 lead after only 45 seconds of game time in the first period.
Pennsbury answered with a four-play touchdown drive that featured a 31-yard pass completion from quarterback Mike Alley to Vinnie Ratamess. Snoweah capped the drive with a two-yard touchdown burst, and Josh Leon added the point after touchdown to knot the score at 7-7.
The Falcons took the lead for good later in the first period. Snorweah capped a short 25-yard scoring drive with his second two-yard touchdown run. The PAT failed – and the Falcons settled for a 13-7 first period lead.
Pennsbury put together a scoring drive on its first possession of the second quarter. The seven-play scoring drive showcased a 54-yard run by Snorweah. Alley culminated the drive with a one-yard sneak – and Leon’s placement made the score 20-7.
The Black and Orange scored on its next possession in big-play fashion. Snorweah was wide open in the Titan secondary and scored on a 69-yard touchdown pass from Alley. Leon’s PAT extended the lead to 27-7 by the close of the first half.
The most impressive Pennsbury drive came at the outset of the third period. The Falcons marched 78-yards on 11 plays with Alley again earning scoring honors on a one-yard sneak. Leon’s extra point created a 34-7 lead.
A second third period touchdown extended the lead to 41-7. This time it was Chris Rupprecht – good old # 53 – that bolted into the end zone on a four-yard touchdown run. Leon was perfect on the placement.
The Falcons would score two more touchdowns in the fourth period. Joe Strong capped a scoring drive with a 5-yard touchdown run – Michael Geary added the PAT – and Anthony Pitt jetted 95 yards for the final TD – and Drew Hartman closed the scoring with the point after touchdown.
Despite the lopsided score, both the winning Falcons (5-1 conference) and the losing Titans (5-1 conference) will play for a share of the SOL National Conference title next week. Pennsbury will travel to Neshaminy (4-5, 3-3) to play the rival Redskins at Heartbreak Ridge – while CB South will travel to Souderton to meet the struggling Indians (3-6, 1-5).
North Penn (5-1 conference) – 17-13 winners over Neshaminy – will play for its share of the championship pie when the Knights travel to Abington (5-4, 2-4).
“We are going to have to have a short memory,” said Hetrick. “Nobody at the start of the season thought we would have a shot at the championship – and we still have that shot.”
“This is a great league that we play in,” said Snyder. “North Penn, CB South, Pennridge, Abington – and now we get to play Neshaminy for a championship.”
It could be an SOL National Conference championship three-way tie – Oh My!!!
