Suburban One League Continental Conference ‘Snapshot’
Championship Races
The SOL Continental Conference regular season is quickly coming to a close. The final two weeks of the season will not only determine conference champions, but also have an impact on seeding for the upcoming PIAA District One Quad-A playoffs.
Central Bucks East [8-2]has won eight straight conference games and is tied for first place in the standings. The Patriots close the season at home on Tuesday (5/5) against Central Bucks South [3-7]; at home this Thursday (5/7) against Quakertown [2-8]; @ Central Bucks West [1-9] next Monday (5/11); and close the season at home next Wednesday (5/13) against Souderton (4-6]. The cumulative records of the final four remaining teams is 10-30.
North Penn [8-2] is tied for first place in the conference standings. The Knights close the season at home on Tuesday (5/5) against Central Bucks West [1-9]; at home on Thursday (5/7) against Pennridge [7-3]; @ Souderton [4-6] next Monday (5/11); and will close the season at home against Hatboro-Horsham (7-3) next Wednesday (5/13). The cumulative records of the final four remaining teams is 19-21.
Pennridge [7-3] is a game behind the league leaders. The Rams close out the season at home on Tuesday (5/5) against Souderton (4-6); @ North Penn [8-2] on Thursday (5/7); at home next Monday (5/11) against Hatboro-Horsham [7-3]; and will close the season next Wednesday (5/13) at home against Quakertown [2-8]. The cumulative records of the final four remaining teams is 21-19.
Hatboro-Horsham [7-3] is a game behind the league leaders. The Hatters close out the regular season @ Quakertown [2-8] on Tuesday (5/5); @ Central Bucks South [3-7] on Thursday (5/7); at home against Pennridge [7-3] next Monday (5/11); and will close out the season @ North Penn [8-2] next Wednesday (5/13). The cumulative records of the final four remaining teams is 20-20.

In the Rear View Mirror in the SOL Continental Conference
Central Bucks East (8-2) vaulted into a first place tie in the conference standings with a pair of wins over conference contenders. The Patriots marched to a 6-4 victory over North Penn to open the week and closed the week with a 2-1 win over Hatboro-Horsham. In the win over the Knights – David Yanni sparked a seventh inning comeback to blast a walk-off grand slam homerun. Tyler Davis earned the win in relief, while Thomas Prato and Nick Chimera collected key RBIs. In the victory over the Hatters – Michael Broderick pitched a wonderful complete-game victory, while Yanni and Andrew Collins had two hits each.
North Penn (8-2) finished the week at the top of the conference standings, winning two of three conference games. The Knights fell to Central Bucks East by a 6-4 score to open the week – followed with an 11-1 win over Quakertown – and closed the week with an 8-2 win over Quakertown. In the loss to CB East – Mason Nadeau, Jared Melone, Mike Christy, and Matt Marino each had a single RBI. In the first win over the Panthers – Doug Apple had two hits and three RBIs, Kadar Namey had three hits and two RBIs, Nadeau had three hits and an RBI, and Kellen Williamson pitched six innings to earn the win. And in the second win over the Panthers – Marino had three hits and an RBI, Christy and Alex Peterson had two hits, and Melone and Nadeau had two RBIs. Colin Healy was the winning pitcher.
Pennridge (7-3) captured three conference victories as the Rams vaulted back into conference title contention. Pennridge opened the week with a ‘double header’ sweep of Central Bucks West and closed the week with a 6-1 victory over Central Bucks South. In the sweep over the Bucks – the Rams pounded out 15 hits to earn the 17-7 win as Dan Long and Dave Tatoian fueled the offense with three hits each. The Green & White followed with a 4-1 win over CBW – Tatoian was the winning pitcher, while Caleb Hand had two hits and two RBIs. In the win over the Titans – the Rams pounded out 14 hits. Tommy Nuneviller and Tatoian each had three hits, while Long, Caleb Hand, and Tyler Freed each had two hits. Andrew Mayhew was the winning pitcher.
Hatboro-Horsham (7-3) split a pair of conference games but remained in contention for a conference title. The Hatters opened the week with a 3-1 victory over Central Bucks South and closed the week with a 2-1 loss to Central Bucks East. In the win over the Titans – Eric Lane was the complete-game winner and tossed a four hitter, while Alec Blyer had an RBI. In the loss to the Patriots – Alex Happ had two hits to lead the offense.
Souderton (4-6) had a good week as the Indians won both of their conference games. Souderton opened the week with a 7-6 victory over Quakertown and closed the week with an 8-1 win over Central Bucks West. In the victory over the Panthers – Mitch Amenta picked up the win throwing two-plus innings of relief, while Nate Luscombe and Dylan Morrissette collected key RBIs. In the win over the Bucks – nine different players collected hits. Morrissette sparked the offense with a three RBI game, while Luscombe threw a complete game and earned the win.
Central Bucks South (3-7) lost two of three conference games last week. The Titans opened the week with a 3-1 loss to Hatboro-Horsham – followed with a 5-3 victory over Central Bucks West – and closed the week with a 6-1 loss to Pennridge. In the loss to the Hatters – Mike Anastasia had two of the four CBS hits and David Drea was a tough-luck loser. In the win over the Bucks – Danny Klepchick was the winning pitcher and impressed with nine strikeouts. Anastasia had two RBIs – while Mile Goldsworthy, Eric Gross, and Alex Happ each had RBIs. In the loss to the Rams – Happ was the leading hitter with two hits.
Quakertown (2-8) had a difficult week as the Panthers lost all three of their conference games. Q-town opened the week with a 7-6 loss to Souderton – followed with an 11-1 loss to North Penn – and closed the week with an 8-2 defeat to North Penn. In the loss to the Indians – the Panthers had 10 hits and were led by a two-hit outing by Jake Reed. John Lilley and Chris Curry each had an RBI.
Central Bucks West (1-9) had a tough week as the Bucks lost all four of their conference games. CB West opened the week with a doubleheader loss to Pennridge by scores of 17-7 and 4-1 – followed with a 5-3 loss to Central Bucks South – and closed the week with an 8-1 loss to Souderton. In the twin bill losses to the Rams – Robert Phillips had two hits and three RBIs in the first game and Shane Heacox had the lone RBI in the second game. In the loss to the Titans – Matt Peralta had the lone RBI. And in the loss to the Indians – Peralta had two of the four Bucks hits.

The Falcons will be at home Tuesday (5/5) against Truman [4-5]; will play @ Neshaminy [3-7] on Thursday (5/7); will be @ Council Rock South [7-3] next Monday (5/11); will host William Tennent [1-9] in the season finale next Wednesday (5/13). The cumulative records of the final four remaining teams is 15-24.
Council Rock South [7-3] is still in contention but would need help to catch Pennsbury. The Golden Hawks will be @ William Tennent [1-9] on Tuesday (5/5); will be @ Council Rock North [6-4] on Thursday (5/7); will host Pennsbury [9-1] next Monday (5/11); and will close out the regular season @ Neshaminy [3-7] next Wednesday (5/13). The cumulative records of the four remaining teams is 19-21.
Council Rock North [6-4] is still in contention but would need a lot of help to catch Pennsbury. The Indians will be @ Neshaminy [3-7] on Tuesday (5/5); will host Council Rock South [7-3] on Thursday (5/7); will host Abington [5-4] next Monday; and will close the regular season @ Bensalem [4-6] next Wednesday (5/13). The cumulative records of the four remaining teams is 19-20.

Pennsbury (9-1) kept a firm hold on its first place standing with a pair of conference wins last week. The Falcons opened the week with a key 4-1 victory over Council Rock North and closed the week with a 4-2 win over Bensalem. In the win over the Indians – Andrew Gilbert and Zach Conley combined for a six hitter, while Billy Bethel collected a pair of clutch RBIs. In the win over the Owls – Brody McFadden and Gilbert shut down Bensalem on six hits, while Bethel had two hits and an RBI to spark the Falcons.
Council Rock South (7-3) kept pace with Pennsbury with a pair of conference victories last week. The Golden Hawks opened the week with a 5-1 victory over Bensalem and closed the week with an 8-2 win over Abington. In the win over the Owls – Josh Blaustein was the winning pitcher, while Cody Kutler sparked the offense with a three-hit effort. Kutler, Nick Fabino, Jon Fisher, Nick Potente, and Shaun Stackhouse each had RBI’s. In the win over the Ghosts – Jordan Silverman earned the complete game victory, while Evan Fisher and Josh Kim each drove home two runs.
Council Rock North (6-4) held on to third place despite losing two of three conference games last week. The Indians opened the week with a 4-1 loss to Pennsbury – followed with a 7-1 victory over Truman – and closed the week with a 3-2 loss to Abington. In the loss to the Falcons – Jared Schram had three hits and Noah Hartwell had the lone RBI. In the win over the Tigers – Schram had two RBIs, while Brandon McIlwain, JR Hicks, Cole Hofman, Matt Hand, and Tyler Nowmos had single RBI. And in the loss to the Ghosts – Seth Luez and German collected the only RBIs, while McIlwain was the tough luck loser.
Abington (5-4) surged over the .500 mark as the Ghosts won two of three conference games last week. Abington opened the week with a 7-2 win over Neshaminy – followed with an 8-2 loss to Council Rock South – and closed the week with a 3-2 victory over Council Rock North. In the win over the Redskins – Greg Troyer was the winning pitcher, while Brett Guaglionon fueled the offense with two hits and two RBIs. In the loss to the Golden Hawks – Conor Breslin had two RBIs and Nick Bein had two hits. And in the win over the Indians – Nick Torba squeezed home the winning run in the eighth inning to seal the deal, while Breslin was the winner in relief. Aidan Coyle and Brian Close each had two hits to spark the offense.
Neshaminy (3-7) split a pair of conference games last week. The Redskins opened the week with a 7-2 victory over Abington and closed the week with an 11-1 win over William Tennent. In the loss to the Ghosts – Mike Burns, Jordan Angello, and Andrew Dampman each had two hits. In the win over the Panthers – the Skins collected a mercy-rule victory.
Truman (4-5) won one of three conference games last week. The Tigers opened the week with a 6-3 loss to William Tennent – followed with a 6-5 win over William Tennent – and closed the week with a 7-1 loss to Council Rock North. In the 6-3 loss to the Panthers – John Matthews, Chris Mangold, and Matt Helbling each had RBIs. In the win over the Panthers – Mangold delivered the game-winning hit, while Matt Walczak had three hits and three RBIs. Matt Shea was the winner. In the loss to the Indians – Helbling had two of the four Tiger hits.
William Tennent (1-9) won its first conference game of the season last week and finished with one win in three conference games. The Panthers opened the week with a 6-3 victory over Truman – followed with a 6-5 loss in 11-innings to Truman – and closed the week with an 11-1 loss to Neshaminy. In the win over the Tigers – Nick Cataldi threw a complete game to earn the win and also had two RBIs. Paul McElroy blasted a three-run homerun to spark the offense. In the loss to the Tigers – Greg Delgado had two hits and two RBIs, while McElroy had two hits. In the loss to the Redskins – the Panthers lost in mercy-rule fashion.
Bensalem (4-6) lost a pair of conference games last week. The Owls opened the week with a 5-1 loss to Council Rock South and closed the week with a 4-2 loss to Pennsbury. In the loss to the Golden Hawks – Brandon Wermuth had two hits and Jerry Crespo had the lone RBI. In the loss to the Falcons – Crespo had two hits and Chris Reyes had the lone RBI.

Wissahickon (10-0) is unbeaten in conference play this season. The Trojans will play @ Upper Moreland [3-6] on Tuesday (5/5); will play @ Norristown [3-6] on Thursday (5/7); will play at home against Upper Dublin [9-1] next Monday (5/11); and will close the regular season @ Cheltenham [4-6] next Wednesday (5/13). The cumulative records of the four remaining teams is 19-19.
Upper Dublin (9-1) is the lone team with any chance of catching Wissahickon in the final standings. The Cardinals will host Plymouth Whitemarsh [3-6] on Tuesday (5/5); will host Upper Merion [1-8] on Thursday (5/7); will play @ Wissahickon (10-0) next Monday (5/11); and will close the regular season at home against Springfield [5-5] next Wednesday (5/13). The cumulative record of the four remaining teams is 19-19.

Wissahickon (10-0) remained unbeaten in the conference with a pair of conference wins last week. The Trojans opened the week with a 4-2 victory over Upper Moreland and closed the week with a 12-2 mercy-rule win over Plymouth Whitemarsh. In the win over the Golden Bears – Blake Rapoport had three hits and two RBIs, while Alexander Tappen had two hits. Logan Willans was the winning pitcher. In the win over the Colonials – the Trojans pounded out 12 hits. Tappen, Matt Shilling each had three hits, while Shilling knocked home four runs. Tappen was the winning pitcher striking out seven hitters in five innings.
Upper Dublin (9-1) kept pace with Wissahickon with a pair of conference victories. The Flying Cardinals opened the week with a 9-4 victory over Cheltenham and closed the week with a 10-0 win over Upper Moreland. In the win over the Panthers – Christian Huckfeldt was the winning pitcher, while Conor Macauley, Justin Horn, and Thomas Juelke each had two hits. In the win over the Golden Bears – Cole Swiger was the winning pitcher, while Conor McFadden had two RBIs. Juelke, McFadden, and John Lee each had two hits for the Cardinals.
Springfield (5-5) assumed sole possession of third place with a pair of conference wins last week. The Spartans opened the week with a 5-4 win over Norristown in eight innings and closed the week with a 6-1 victory over Cheltenham. In the win over the Eagles – Chris Binet delivered the game-winning hit and had three hits, while Deandre Johnson had a four-hit day. In the win over the Panthers – Julian Salzer had a complete-game victory, while Mike Johnston fueled the offense with three hits and two RBIs.
Cheltenham (4-6) held onto fourth place in the standings despite losing both conference games last week. The Panthers opened the week with a 9-4 loss to Upper Dublin and closed the week with a 6-1 loss to Springfield. In the loss to the Flying Cardinals – Gabe Hofferman had two hits and an RBI, while Joel White also added an RBI. In the loss to the Spartans – the Panthers managed just two hits.
Norristown (3-6) split a pair of conference games last week. The Eagles opened the week with a 5-4 loss to Springfield in eight innings and closed the week with an 11-4 victory over Upper Merion. In the loss to the Spartans – Tom Detwiler, Robert Collins, and Charles Grello each had a double to lead the offense. In the win over the Vikings – the Eagles slugged out 22 hits. Anthony Wayne had three hits and two RBIs, Tom Peccari had three hits and three RBIs, Joe Cook had three hits and two RBIs, and Grello had five hits and an RBI. Alec Proietto was the winning pitcher.
Upper Moreland (3-6) won one of three conference games last week. The Bears opened the week with a 7-3 victory over Plymouth Whitemarsh – followed with a 4-2 loss to Wissahickon – and closed the week with a 10-0 loss to Upper Dublin. In the win over the Colonials – Joe Bates was the winning pitcher, while Kyle Bennis fueled the offense with three RBIs. In the loss to the Trojans – Christian Leighton had two hits and an RBI. And in the loss to the Cardinals – the Bears managed just two hits and committed six errors.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (3-6) had a difficult week as the Colonials lost all three conference games last week. PW opened the week with a 7-3 loss to Upper Moreland – followed with a 5-4 loss to Upper Merion – and closed the week with a 12-2 loss to Wissahickon. In the loss to the Bears – Zach Metz had two hits to lead the offense. In the loss to the Vikings – Brett Highland had two hits and two RBIs, while Gavin Brody had two hits. And in the loss to the Trojans – Evan Bischoff and Noah Goldstein each had an RBI.
Upper Merion (1-8) split a pair of conference games last week – including its first win of the season. The Vikings opened the week with a 5-4 victory over Plymouth Whitemarsh and closed the week with an 11-4 loss to Norristown. In the win over the Colonials – Jarrett Quinn was the complete-game winning pitcher, while Andrew Del Guidice had two hits and three RBIs. Matt Callahan delivered the game-winning hit. In the loss to the Eagles – Del Guidice had two hits, while the Viking defense committed six errors.
