William Tennent 6, Harry S Truman 3
After Truman eked out a 6-5 win in the completion of a game that was suspended due to rain on April 7, Tennent (1-12, 1-9 SOL) came back to win the second game, picking up its first win of the season.
“We have been right there,” said Tennent head coach Rick Penecale. “We fought hard.”
While Tennent has been in most games, they seemed to falter down the stretch, and Tuesday’s game seemed to be following the same pattern.
After the Panthers scored solo runs in each of the first three innings, Truman stormed back to tie it up with three of its own in the fifth. The Tigers won it with three runs in the top of the seventh.
The big hit of the game came off the bat of Nick Cataldi, who doubled with two outs to score two runs.
“He gave us a cushion,” said Penecale.
Paul Mcelroy went 3-for-3 with a homer, driving in a run and scoring twice. Bobby Day, Timothy Brodhag and Cole Brown each had a hit. Brown also knocked in a run.
“The kids had been getting frustrated, but they hung tough,” said Penecale. “Today we were able to get the last out.”
Cataldi also picked up the win on the mound, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits while striking out nine in going the distance. A win was in the books when Cataldi retured Matt Helbling on a fly ballfor the game’s final out.
“We were very happy,” said Penecale. “Elated. I was happy for them.”
Evan Miller and John Matthews had the two lone hits for Truman (7-5, 4-4 SOL). Matthews, Chris Mangold and Helbling knocked in the runs.

The Golden Hawks (6-5, 6-3 SOL) broke open a tie game late by scoring a combined four runs in the final two innings to stay within striking distance of the top team in the conference, Pennsbury.
Bensalem (5-5, 4-5 SOL) and CR South scored a run each in the fourth, and it was not until the sixth that the Golden Hawks broke the tie with an all-important run and added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
“All wins are big at the point,” said CR South head coach Ted Kimer. “It was good to get the ‘W.’”
Evan Fisher’s lone hit of the game was a big one as he plated Cody Kutler with the winning run in the sixth.
Kutler led the offense with three hits, scoring twice and adding an RBI. Dean Obarowski, Josh Kim, Connor Macauley, Nick Fabino, Nick Potente and Shaun Stackhouse had a hit each while Fabino, Potente, Stackhouse and Fisher each had an RBI.
“We have been struggling a little bit,” said Kimer, whose team managed just two hits in a non-league loss to Central Bucks East on Monday afternoon. “Ten hits is real nice to have.”
The Golden Hawks relied on Josh Blaustein to get the job done on the mound. Blaustein allowed four hits and one run (unearned) while striking out five in the complete game win.
“He pounded the zone,” Kimer said. “He threw an 85-pitch complete game. His outing was critical and he was able to keep the pitch count as low as he did.”
Colin Taylor ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision. He lasted just two and two-thirds innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed four runs.
Brandon Wermuth had two of his team’s four hits and scored a run. both Nick Mulvey and Bill Kohler had a hit. Jerry Crespo had the Owls’ only RBI.

Continental Conference.
Central Bucks East 6, North Penn 4
It looked as though the Patriots six-game conference win streak was about to come to a screeching halt, but the never-say-die Patriots weren’t about to let the win streak end. David Yanni made sure of that with one swing of the bat.
With the Knights leading 4-2 heading into the bottom half of the seventh, CB East got consecutive singles from Nick Chimera and Cameron Komanchak to start off the inning.
Head coach Kyle Dennis was willing to give up an out to sacrifice the runners over with a bunt, but that didn’t happen. CJ Gillmer was safe on an error, bringing Yanni to the plate with the bases load.. He made his first home run of the year a memorable one – roping a grand slam to right field for the walk-off win.
“There is no one else you want up in that situation,” said Dennis. “It was impressive. He knew it right away.”
The win – the seventh straight for East – keeps the Patriots tied atop the conference with Hatboro-Horsham. The Patriots know they have little time to enjoy the big win with first place on the line when they face the Hatters on Thursday.
“We have a big test on Thursday,” said Dennis. “Anyone can beat anybody in this conference.”
Yanni also added a triple to go along with his grand slam. Carter Usowski had two hits and a run scored. Thomas Prato was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Chimera added an RBI.
Tyler Davis came on in relief for starter Eric Chase to pick up the win. Davis threw two and a third scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
North Penn – which erased a 2-0 deficit with a four-run fourth – got two hits from Mike Christy and a hit each from Alex Peterson, Mason Nadeau, Jared Melone, Zach Ziegler, Kader Namey (double) and Matt Marino. Nadeau, Melone, Christy and Marino knocked in a run each.
Paul Haynie took the loss in relief of starter James Witner.
“We are playing great baseball,” said Dennis. “Losing is no fun for anybody. Winning is contagious. Seven in a row is awesome.”
CB East is 7-2 in conference play (9-4 overall) while the Knights are 6-2 in the league (8-2 overall).

The Hatters scored all three runs in the 4th inning. With one out, Kevin Barron reached on an infield single. Lane then reached on a hit-by-pitch. After a wild pitch moved the runners up to 2nd & 3rd, Simmons hit a grounder to short on which Barron came home to score on an errant throw and runners were then on the corners. A balk was then called that allowed the runner from 3rd to score and Simmons to move up to 2nd. After a groundout moved Simmons up to 3rd, he scored on a single by Alec Blyler to give the Hatters a 3-0 lead.
The Titans answered back with a run in the bottom of the 4th when Alex Happ scored on a Tommy Dugan RBI double to right field.
