HATBORO-HORSHAM 11, CELEBRATION HS (FL) 2
There’s nothing quite like spring training in Florida in March.
The Hatters capped their trip to Orlando with a no-doubt-about-it win over Celebration High School. Junior Jaxson Bumpus had himself a day. He not only threw six strong innings to notch the win, he also was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
“We had a great week of baseball in Orlando this week,” HH coach Pete Moore said. “Junior Jaxson Bumpus showed us just how good he is this week. Today, he threw six innings with nine strikeouts and no walks and only two runs allowed. That was only half of what he did. He was also 4-for-4 at the plate.”
The Hatters scored early and often in the win. Bumpus had an RBI single in the first, and the Hatters had a lead they would not lose. They added three runs in a second inning that was highlighted by singles from Brady Pagano, Noah Schlosser (RBI) and Bumpus (RBI).
The Hatters lead grew to 5-0, thanks to an RBI single by Adriel Tiburcio. In the fourth inning, the Hatters added an unearned run and put two more on the board in the fifth to go on top 8-0 before Celebration scored a pair in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Hatters got those runs back, scoring six for the 11-2 final.
“Freshman Chase Canney also showed that he belongs at the varsity level,” Moore said. “Today he scored two runs and stole three bases in addition to pitching a scoreless (seventh) inning. Senior Brady Pagano and sophomore Jamie O’Neill played great all week in their first extended varsity action.
“The growth we saw over the course of the week from our team was outstanding. The guys new to the varsity level really started to understand the pace of the game and the amount of things that you need to account for before each pitch is thrown. I am confident that this trip was perfect for our group of guys and couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Hatboro-Horsham (2-0) will host Council Rock North in a non-league game Wednesday.
