Non-league
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 6, HOLY GHOST PREP 2
The visiting Indians led wire to wire in Tuesday’s non-league opener, scoring four runs in the second and never looking back.
“It was a classic non-league game with two young teams with many guys on the varsity field for their first time playing a meaningful, emotional baseball game – especially in winter-like chill conditions,” Rock North coach Matt Schram said.
The Indians put a run on the board in the top of the first. Leor Kedar lined a double to left to lead off the inning, and Nick DiGiacomo followed and drew a walk. It looked like the Firebirds might escape unscathed when the next two batters were retired, but back-to-back walks to Johnny Mulder and Will Seiler brought Kedar home with the game’s first run.
In the second inning, an error and walk put two on board for Kedar, who ripped a three-run home run to left field, and just like that, the Indians led 4-0. The inning wasn’t over yet as DiGiacomo was safe on an error, stole second, moved up to third on a fly out and scored on Jack Ploppert’s groundout.
Rock North upped its lead to 6-0 with a run in the fifth. The inning included singles by Mulder and Preston Martin sandwiched around a walk to Seiler. Mulder scored on Joe Rizzo’s groundout.
The Firebirds scored a pair in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late.
Kedar had a big day out of the leadoff spot, igniting the Indians’ offense with a 3-for-4 effort that included a single, double and home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Seiler started and threw five shutout innings to earn the win, scattering three hits while striking out four and walking none. Martin struck out three in a scoreless inning in relief.
Council Rock North (1-0) will host Upper Dublin in a non-league game Wednesday.

Highlights of the five-run first were a leadoff double by Reece Moody, a one-out RBI single by Chase Harlan and a two-run single by Anthony Niro. The Patriots benefitted from two walks and a hit batter in the inning.
The Patriots lead grew to 6-0 in the second after Moody, who once again led off the inning with a double, scored on Colin Lynch’s two-out double to right field.
The rest of the game belonged to the Rams.
