QUAKERTOWN 10, PENNRIDGE 0
A trio of Panther hurlers – Vinny Pellegrini, Cooper Natisin and Carl Weiss – combined for a shutout, and the Panthers collected 10 hits on their way to no-doubt-about-it win in their non-league opener.
“Our three pitchers were excellent,” Quakertown coach Jon Pallone said. “Vinny started out on point, Cooper came in and was electric, and Carl was just nasty.
“Ten strikeouts and one walk – that’s a great day on the mound with three guys that love to compete and can pitch. Eighty-seven pitches between the three (for the game) is efficient.”
The trio also helped their own cause with productive days at the plate. Pellegrini and Weiss both had a pair of hits, and Natisin had a double.
The Panthers got all the runs they would need in a two-run second. Matt Marsten singled to lead off the inning, and he scored the game’s first run that turned out to be the game-winner when Braxton Rahn lined a two-out double to right field. Tanner Clancy’s single plated Rahn, and the Panthers led 2-0.
Quakertown added a single run in the top of the third, and that 3-0 score stood until the top of the sixth when the Panthers put three runs on the board and then added four more in the seventh. Nate Scheetz’s two-run home run to left field – his first varsity home run – highlighted the four-run seventh.
Pellegrini, who started, allowed one hit while striking out three and walking one in three scoreless innings. Natisin threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit while fanning four and walking none while Weiss did not allow a hit in two shutout innings to close out the game. He fanned three. Pellegrini (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Weiss (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) led the Panthers’ 10-hit attack. Dan Qualteria scored three runs.
Quakertown (1-0) will travel to Perkiomen School for a non-league game Friday, and Pennridge (0-3) will host North Penn in Tuesday’s SOL opener.

Jeremy Fallon and Tyler Lutz each allowed one hit in back-to-back scoreless innings to close out the game. Fallon fanned two and Lutz, one.
The Vikings scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Jackson Morrissette (only one earned), and that turned out to be all they would need as a pair of PV hurlers combined for a five-hit shutout. Justin Stasyk earned the win, allowing four hits in four shutout innings while striking out four and walking one. Derek Smith recorded the save with three scoreless innings in relief. He allowed one hit while striking out five and walking none.
