CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 7, ABINGTON 3
The Titans pounded out 12 hits off a trio of Abington hurlers. Andrew Dietz was productive out of the middle of the lineup, ripping a triple and double and contributing a pair of RBIs. It was Dietz delivering an RBI triple to put the Titans on the board in the top of the first.
“He had great at-bats all day,” coach Brian Klumpp said. “He was on base every single time. We’re looking for a big year out of him, for sure.”
The biggest performance of the day from the Titans came out of the eight hole where sophomore Joey Loynd was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. He also was impressive in his varsity debut at shortstop.
“We had to replace Kyle Rossi who was a huge part of our team last year,” Klumpp said of his first team all-league shortstop. “Joey Loynd had three hits, and he ran the bases well. He had six or seven plays in the field, and he made them all.
“It was good to see. He brought a little bit of life to us when we were trailing after that first inning, so it was good.”
Loynd wasn’t the only player to come up big out of the bottom of the South lineup. Devin Farrell was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored out of the ninth spot, and all told, the Titans’ seven, eight and nine batters combined for five RBIs with Chris Farrell delivering a pair out of the seven hole.
“The bottom of our lineup did great today,” Klumpp said. “Chris Farrell had great at-bats. When you get production like that out of the bottom, that’s usually a good thing.”
On the mound, Sam Thompson – who played quarterback for the Titans in the fall – survived a rough start in his varsity debut that saw the Ghosts score three runs. He did not allow a run in the next four, and in five innings, Thompson allowed five hits while fanning six and walking two.
“Sam really did settle in – I was happy to see it,” Klumpp said. “It’s actually the first time he’s pitched since two years ago.
“This is the first time he’s actually played for South. We started to reach out to him to get him to try out, and obviously, we’re happy he did. After that first inning, he just got better and better. He tells us he wasn’t nervous, but I think he might have had a little bit of nerves. He settled in nicely. He was hitting spots. His curveball was good, his fast ball was explosive.”
The Titans, who trailed 3-1 after one inning, put two runs on the board in the fourth to knot the score 3-3 and won it with a pair in the fifth. They added single runs in the sixth and seventh.
Justin Anderosky, who earned the save, did not allow a hit in two scoreless innings to close out the game, striking out two and walking one.
Matt Horn accounted for three of the Ghosts’ five hits, finishing the day 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Central Bucks South (1-0) will host Pennsbury in a non-league contest Monday, and Abington (0-1) will host Wissahickon in non-league action.

UPPER DUBLIN 3, SOUDERTON 2
JT Breslin’s RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning broke a 2-2 tie and proved to be the game winner in Friday’s game in Aberdeen, Md. Justin Horn earned the win for the Cardinals with two scoreless innings in relief. He did not allow a hit or walk while fanning four in a stellar outing.
Pitching was the name of the game for both teams. Souderton’s Blaise Sclafani threw two scoreless innings to open the game, allowing one hit while fanning three. Jordan Morales closed it out with two scoreless innings for the Indians, allowing just one hit while fanning six and walking one.
Thylar Summarell absorbed the loss for the Indians, allowing two hits and three runs – only one earned – while striking out six and walking three. Souderton’s three pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts.
Ryan Besachio threw the first five innings for the Cardinals, allowing five hits and two runs – both unearned. He struck out four and walked three.
Derek Freed (1-for-2) and Summarell (2-for-2) each drove in a run for the Indians, who scored both of their runs in the top of the third only to watch the Cardinals answer with two in the bottom of the inning.
Upper Dublin (1-0) will travel to Council Rock South for a non-league game on Monday, and Souderton (0-1) will host Perk Valley in a non-league tilt on Tuesday.

WISSAHICKON 13, UPPER MERION 3 (6 innings)
The Trojans took care of business in a hurry in Friday’s opener against their former conference rival, exploding for seven runs in the first inning and never looking back.
Matt Shilling got the ball rolling with a leadoff triple, and Alex Tappen drew a walk and stole second. Steve Loden and Trey France followed with back-to-back RBI singles, and then Mike Schoenleber followed with a single to load the bases. Andrew Seitz delivered the inning’s big blow, a bases-clearing triple that put the Trojans on top 5-0. Ben Maltin and Shilling – who doubled in his second at-bat of the frame – each contributed an RBI in an inning that saw the Trojans send 11 men to the plate.

Logan Willans earned the win on the mound, allowing one hit and one run in four strong innings.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 12, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 1 (5 innings)
The Spartans used an eight-run uprising in the third inning to blow open a close game. They added three more in the fourth in a contest that was halted after five innings for the mercy rule.
While the offense exploded for 11 hits, Nick Pave was tossing a gem on the mound. He scattered four hits while fanning nine and walking just one in a brilliant performance.
Macleod Farley led the Spartans’ potent offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate. Jake Welsh and Tim Dahme both were 2-for-3. Welsh had a pair of RBIs. Will Jamison had a double and three RBIs, and Jackson Pauwels also delivered a double and three RBIs. He also drew three walks.

PENNRIDGE 5, PALISADES 2
Andrew Mayhew and Ian Kacergis combined to allow just two hits and no earned runs in Friday’s opener. The Pirates benefitted from six uncharacteristic Ram miscues to plate an unearned run in the first and another in the third off Mayhew. Kacergis, who earned the win, threw four scoreless innings to close it out.
The Rams, who managed just five hits of their own, plated a single run in the second to knot the score 1-1. They took a lead they would not lose with two runs in the third and added single runs in the fourth and sixth.
Kacergis helped his own cause with two hits and two RBIs. Evan Freed had one hit and one RBI while Luke Nuneviller and Andrew Fantasky each added a single in a contest that saw neither team collect an extra-base hit.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 9, FRANKLIN REGIONAL 8
Franklin Regional scored eight runs over the first four innings, none over the last three. Credit for that goes to sophomore Zach Chandler, who allowed just one hit while striking out three and walking one in three superb innings in relief.
It was a good start to the Colonials’ trip to Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla.
The Colonials took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first only to see Franklin Regional knot the score in the bottom of the inning. It was the same story in the third. PW scored three in the top of the frame, but Franklin Regional was one better in the bottom of the inning and led 6-5, upping that lead to 8-6 after four.
Chandler brought order to the game on the mound, giving the Colonials a chance to win it with three runs in the top of the seventh.
John Pecharo led the Colonials’ nine-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort that included a double, RBI and two runs scored. Justin Gelfand was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kevin Reilly doubled and drove in a pair, and Noah Goldstein tripled and scored a pair of runs to lead the Colonials.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (1-0) will face Evanston on Saturday at 10 a.m.

JENKINTOWN 6, CHELTENHAM 4
The Drakes opened up a 5-0 lead after two innings and took a 6-1 lead into the sixth inning. The Panthers scored two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh but never could dig themselves out of their early hole.
David Katzenberg was 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead the Panthers. Kieran Versaw-Barnes had Cheltenham’s only extra base hit – a double. Lukas Nakkula and Jordan Rorer each had an RBI.
In a contest that saw each team collect six hits, the two teams combined for 10 errors with the Drakes guilty of six miscues as the lack of field time this spring was apparent.
Jenkintown collected all six of its hits off starter Joel White in the first 3.1 innings. Nakkula threw 1.2 scoreless innings, collecting all five outs on strikeouts. Alex Haasz also threw a scoreless inning.
Cheltenham (0-1) will host Abington in a non-league contest between the neighboring rivals on Wednesday.
