NORTH PENN 3, WILLIAMSTOWN (N.J.) 1
Kolby Barrow turned in a dazzling complete game effort on Saturday, putting an exclamation point on the Knights’ spring break trip to the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. The sophomore hurler was in complete command in his varsity debut, fanning 11 and walking none. He scattered four hits and allowed just one run against a Williamstown team that was the 2015 New Jersey Group 4 state runner-up.
“Kolby got after hitters tonight like a seasoned pitcher,” coach Kevin Manero said. “He’s a quarterback in the fall and plays basketball in the winter, and now he’s using that athleticism and extra gear to compete on the mound.
“Most impressive is the poise and concentration he had. He was using both sides of the plate, filling up the zone with strikes, working quickly, and just commanding the game.”
Williamstown plated its only run in the top of the first when the Braves collected two of their hits. They took that 1-0 lead into the fifth when the Knights erupted for three runs.
In the inning, Ryan Bealer drew a leadoff walk and moved up to second on Hunter Hamlin’s sacrifice. AJ Patterson reached first on an error that plated Bealer, and Patterson eventually scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. Tyler Siddal singled and scored on a two-out single by Zack Miles, who had two of the Knights’ three hits.
Barrow escaped a two-on, two-out threat in the seventh, ending the game with his 11th strikeout.
North Penn (3-0) will travel to Central Bucks East for Tuesday’s SOL opener.
