PENNSBURY 6, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1
Keller Bradley tossed a complete game three-hit gem, striking out 12 and walking none. It was his second win of the young season.
Leading the Falcons on offense was Ryan Webber who was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Evan Hawkes was 2-for-4 with a run, and Nolan Kolanko had an RBI double in the second. Michael Sogness also
added a hit while Brendan Zuckerman scored on both of his walks.
“It feels great to pick up this first SOL win and first win of the series,” Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci said. “Hopefully we can build off that start moving into tomorrow. “
By the numbers: Pennsbury: Ryan Webber (3-for-3, 2B, 2R), Evan Hawkes (2-for-4, 1R).
Keller Bradley (W) (7 IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 12K).
Key inning: Bottom of fifth: Leading 2-1, the Falcons seized control of the game with a four-run fifth. Evan Hawkes grounded a single to left to open the inning, and Webber followed with a double. Pierce Perry was safe on a fielder’s choice, and the bases were loaded. Hawkes and Webber both scored on passed balls. Brendan Zuckerman drew a walk. Perry also scored on a passed ball.
Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci: “Overall we got the job done on offense, but I thought we took a few too many fastballs for strikes and left a few runs out there early. For example, we had the RBI double in the second with no outs and then stranded him with three Ks. We need productive outs to score that run. We need to be a little more competitive overall, but I thought as the game went on our guys did a good job working some longer
at bats, even after getting behind in counts. We were also able to be a little aggressive and took advantage of some mistakes by their defense.”
Bradley in command: “Keller was efficient today, throwing 85 pitches in seven innings. Twelve pitches an inning is incredible. He mixed three pitches in all counts and really did a great job keeping hitters off balance and guessing with 79 percent strikes and a 24 percent swing and miss percentage. Couldn’t ask for much more from him today. We’ve ramped up our pitchers since January, and our number this week was 80 pitches for starters. His effectiveness gives us a full staff for the rest of the week.”
–Props: “Ryan Webber has really come on strong to start the year. It’s great to see him looking comfortable and stepping up when we need him. (Nolan) Kolanko is a big strong lefty who has come up with a few big extra base hits this year.”
Up next: Pennsbury (3-0-1, 1-0 SOL)) will travel to Council Rock North (1-2, 0-1) Tuesday.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 7, BENSALEM 1
Reed Curtier got the job done on the mound, and the Golden Hawks took a 2-1 lead into the top of the sixth when they added a run and then scored four more in the seventh to earn the game one win.
“Game one sets the tone for the rest of the series,” Rock South coach Greg Paprocki said. “Game one can have a big impact. It didn’t have as big an impact today on pitching and how many guys throw and how it sets up the series, so game one is always important.
“I think this built some momentum going into tomorrow. Tomorrow is a huge game. It’s an opportunity to win the series and defend our home field, for sure.”
Owen McLean’s three hits led the Hawks, and Jake Andrews had a pair of hits. Billy O’Neill hit a bases-loaded triple in the seventh.
By the numbers: CR South: Owen McLean (3-for-4, 2B, 1RBI, 2R), Jake Andrews (2-for-3, 2RBI, 1RR), Billy O’Neill (1-for-4, 3B, 3RBI).
Reed Curtier (W) (6.0 IP, 2h, 1R 1ER, 4BB, 10K)
Bensalem:- Trevor Morris (6.1 IP, 9H, 7R, 7ER, 2BB,6k)
Key innings: Top of third: The Golden Hawks scored a pair. Hickey hit a one-out double to left, moved up to third on a balk and scored on an Andrews single. (2-0)
Top of sixth: Owen McLean led off with a double to left and scored one out later when J Mendola singled the center. (3-1)
Council Rock South coach Greg Paprocki:
–Curtier comes through: “He had to battle through some tough innings at times. To his standard, he lost command a bit, and he was able to calm down and get back in the zone and get through that sixth inning for us, which was huge. He was tremendous on the mound again. He’s been so consistent and so good for the past two years. We’re lucky to have him.”
–Props: “Jake Andrews is our second baseman and catcher for us. He has done a tremendous job in the nine hole for us this year. I ask him to hit in the nine hole and turn the lineup over, and he’s done so much. In non-league play and league play, he’s been so good in that spot, and he’s really gotten things rolling. He’s scorching hot right now, and I have ton of confidence with him coming to the plate.
“Owen McLean was so good. He kind of had a blunder in the first inning trying to bunt and popped it up, and we got doubled up at first base, but he had three hits today and was lights out in the field. Owen is biting off a lot right now. We’ve asked him to move positions when we needed someone to step up and play shortstop, which usually isn’t the case. On a high school team, you usually have shortstops because there are kids who have been playing that position their whole lives. We were in a situation where we wanted to experiment with him at short just because of his athletic ability and his tools. He stayed after practice every day and worked really, really hard. He did a great job with the glove today and was even better with the bat. He’s been really, really good, and he had a big day today.”
–Credit to Owls: “Their ace (Trevor Morris) did a great job. I had the opportunity to coach him at Carpenter Cup. He’s a tremendous player too. He battled Reed for as long as he could. We got to him late.”

“Jared Kligerman was dominant on the mound today. He was in charge the entire game. It was fun watching him get ahead of hitters and do his thing. Our offense gave him the ability to pitch with extreme confidence…and it showed.”

New Hope-Solebury coach Tony Vlahovic: “Mother Nature worked with us today to get our game one of a series with Lower Moreland in today.
“Lower Moreland is scrappy, and we know that they will compete in game two of our series. Mike does a good job with his squad. We will be ready for a battle.”
–Whelan dealing: “John ‘Professor’ Whelan was outstanding today. All four of his pitches were working, and he kept Lower Moreland hitters off balance. Our defense was great, no errors and excellent communication. Sam Morrin did a great job behind the plate blocking and calling the game.”
–Bats alive: “Offensively, we had 22 quality at-bats in six innings. All throughout our lineup today, we hit the ball hard and ran the bases well. Anthony Whelan and Lucas Kevorkian had great approaches at the plate. And yes, the Professor – John Whelan helped his cause by driving in a run and hitting the ball hard.”

UPPER MORELAND 10, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 (5 innings)
Nick Simons tossed a one-hit shutout in the abbreviated contest, and the Golden Bears took a one-game lead in the three-game series.
The Bears scored all the runs Simons would need with a three-run second inning.
Patrick Kilgus led the Bears’ attack with three hits in three at-bats, and Luke Sword added a pair of hits.
By the numbers: Upper Moreland: Patrick Kilgus (3-for-3, 2 2B, 2RBI, 2R), Luke Sword (2-for-3, 2B, 1RBI, 2R)
Nick Simons (W) (5 IP, 1H, 0R, 2BB, 10K)
Key inning: Bottom of second: Sword led off the inning with a double to center, and Jimmy Murray drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a passed ball, and both scored when Lucas Zipper grounded a one-out single to left field. Zipper was replaced by courtesy runner Mason Loew, who moved up to second on a wild pitch and scored when Chase Moore singled to right field (3-0).
Upper Moreland coach Jim Fasano: “We went 1-0 today and want to go 1-0 tomorrow. Unless of course it rains. As said so well in Bull Durham: ‘Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.’”
–Props: “A total team win today – nine hits and only 5 Ks, led by Beef (Patrick) Kilgus and his two doubles along with a single. He is locked in and an absolute dude at the plate for us. It’s still very early, but it makes me happy for the kid and his family. He and they have put so much time and energy into his success on the ballfield.
“Nick Simons showed up as the guy we knew he could be today. After a choppy first two innings, he made an adjustment and started pounding the zone with his fastball that touched 84 in the fifth inning. The kid is a tireless worker and has gone from someone who didn’t make an 11U travel team to a guy we all count on.
“Luke Sword is going to play football at a big-time college, but for this year and next, he’s a huge part of our team both offensively and on the mound. Two hits today and an RBI, he’s been clutch all year.
“Great to see sophomores Chase Moore, Lucas Zipper and Josh Darsney contributing to wins. We have a bunch of sophomores and juniors. and the future is bright, but so is the present.”
