PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 15, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2 (5 innings)
A nine-run bottom of the first erased an early 2-0 East lead and set the stage for the mercy rule win.
Mason Eagland’s solo home run highlighted the inning. His four RBIs led the Colonials, who benefitted from 10 walks and two hit batters. Cole Reilly added two hits for the Colonials.
Bobby Pasquarello earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits and two runs in five innings.
For the Patriots, Anthony Niro was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs.
By the numbers: Plymouth Whitemarsh: Mason Eagland (1-for-1, HR, 4RBI, 3R), Cole Reilly (2-for-2, 3R), Sam Stolzer (2RBI).
Bobby Pasquarello (W) (5.0 IP, 2R, 2 ER, 3BB, 4K)
Central Bucks East: Anthony Niro (2-for-2, 3B, 2RBI)
Key inning: Bottom of first: Trailing 2-0, the Colonials erupted for nine runs. With one out and the bases empty, Mason Eagland
hit a solo home run to right field. Back-to-back walks to Brody Stump and Stolzer were followed by a Tommy Baron single that loaded the bases. An error on Christian Strunk’s grounder allowed a run to score. Stolzer scored on a wild pitch. PW also benefitted from two walks, two hit batters as well as a single by Stump to go on top 9-2 on their way to the win.
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Chris Manero on the game: “It was nice to get on the field today and play. Because of our senior class trip, we hadn’t played a game in 13 days before today. We talked about coming out ready to play and playing hungry after such a long layoff. I liked how our guys got right to work after falling behind 2-0 in the first.
“Mason’s first-inning home run got that inning started, and it lasted a while after that. We capitalized on a lot of walks, but we also did a nice job of building competitive at-bats and putting balls in play.
“Mixed in, in the third inning, Mike Bongard – off the bench – had a really nice bunt that he placed perfectly, and Gabe Caucci followed in the next at-bat with the same thing. We talked before the game about looking for opportunities to do this, so it was nice to see those guys both execute.”
–Rookie delivers again: “As a freshman starting games for us every week, we are asking a lot out of Bobby (Pasquarello), but he continues to prove that he belongs out there. The conditions were tough again. Cold and wind don’t making pitching any easier, and Bobby settled in nicely after that first inning against some very tough hitters.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh (8-3, 5-0 SOL) will host North Pocono in a non-league game Thursday, and Central Bucks East (4-6, 1-4) is off until Monday, April 28, when the Patriots will host Central Bucks West in game one of the three-game series between the two squads.
