Quakertown 9, Central Bucks West 7
Griffin Kelley and Justin Butler hit back-to-back home runs to highlight a seven-run fifth inning, as Quakertown rallied from five runs down to get past CB West on Thursday in a game played at Plymouth Whitemarsh.
“We were giving up too many free 90s and we weren’t taking advantage of too many,” Quakertown coach Jon Pallone said of the early innings which saw his team fall behind 7-2 at one point. “Our bats got going in the second half of the game and we kind of rode them.”
CB West jumped ahead with two runs in the top of the first, taking advantage of three walks and a hit batter, as well as a single by Rhys Nicholas. The Bucks pushed the lead to 4-1 with two in the fourth innings, an RBI single by Mike Bukowski, and the lead was up to 7-2 in the top of the fifth, scoring runs on a wild pitch, a dropped third strike and triple by Bukowski.
Quakertown made its move in the bottom of the fifth. A Mason Hicks double scored one run, followed by RBI singles by Nolan Byrnes and Sean Brennan. Kelley put the Panthers in front with a three-run home run to right field. The next batter, catcher Justin Butler, followed with a solo homer of his own to make it 9-7.
Hicks led the Panthers with a 2-for-2 effort that included two doubles, two RBIs and one run. Brennan was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.
For the Bucks, Brian Gilvary was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
Ben Eichorn picked up the win out of the bullpen for Quakertown, while Trevor Hurst threw the final two innings to earn the save.
CB West (5-5, 2-4 SOL) next plays Tuesday night (6 p.m.) against CB East at Hanusey Field in Plumstead.

In Game 2 of its doubleheader, Quakertown recorded its second come-from-behind win of the day, tying the game in the sixth and winning it with a Mason Hicks home run in the top of the eighth for a 4-3 win over Plymouth Whitemarsh in a nonleague game on Wednesday.
After rallying to beat CB West earlier in the afternoon, the Panthers rested several starters against PW, but this game remained competitive throughout.
The Colonials went up 3-1 in the second inning on a three-RBI single by Dylan Strunk to score Ryan Kane and Jesse Jaconski.
And that’s where the score stood as PW starter Zach Chandler gave his team four quality innings, allowing just one earn run on five hits and one walk. He also struck out three. Reliever Steve Gallagher struck out seven in his four innings on the mound.
Quakertown chipped way, as Zac Artman singled home a run in the fifth, and Justin Butler tied it with a solo home run in the sixth. It was Butler’s second homer of the day, as he had one late in the Panthers’ win over CB West earlier.
That set the stage for Hicks’ game-winning heroics in the eighth inning.
Griffin Kelley picked up the win on the mound, going three innings, allowing just one hit and not walking a batter, while striking out three. Starter Andrew Nace settled in and gave the Panthers five quality innings as well.
Quakertown (8-2) hosts Central Bucks South on Tuesday in its next game. PW (5-5) hosts Wissahickon in an SOL American game on Tuesday

CB East scored seven runs in the first inning and sophomore Jack Hamilton was lights out on the mound as the Patriots knocked off the SOL National Conference leaders in a nonleague game on Thursday afternoon.
“Honestly, we just hit,” said CB East coach Kyle Dennis. “They did a great job with their approach at the plate, like we have all year. Strung together a few hits, cashed in on a couple of walks. We scored five runs before they got an out.”
In that CB East top of the first, Nick Bitsko singled, Jack Nugent was hit by a pitch, and then James Pello singled to score the first run. A walk and hit by pitch followed, scoring another run, and then a Cole Allen single drove in two more runs.
Adam Zortea picked up an RBI with another hit by pitch, and Matt Beatty drove in the sixth running of the inning with a fielder’s choice ground out. A double by Nugent, the 11th batter of the inning drove in a run to make it a 7-0 game.
That was all the ammunition Hamilton needed. The 10th-grader pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on four hits and didn’t walk a batter. He struck out six and threw just 80 pitches.
“He was lights out,” Dennis said. “He’s a basketball player, started on the varsity this year, so he was a little behind when he came to baseball season. We’ve pitched him out of the bullpen, built him up a little bit.
“This was a tremendous outing. He had worked his way into a starting role. Today was a nonleague, we were like let’s roll him out there and see how he can do.”
The Patriots had eight hits for the game, including two each by Bitsko, Pello and Allen. Pello and Allen had two RBIs each.
Joe Kaleck led Neshaminy, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Liam DelGuerico came on in the first inning and threw five innings, allowing two earned runs and three hits, while striking out six. Austin Mozeleski pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.
Neshaminy (9-1) is back in action with a league game Tuesday at Bensalem.CB East (5-6) has another nonleague game scheduled for Monday at Abington.

Central Bucks South 7, Hatboro-Horsham 5
Joe Martino drove in two runs with a one-out single in the top of the seventh, as Central Bucks South nipped Hatboro-Horsham in a nonleague game on Thursday.
“It was a good win following the dramatic win over (CB West on Wednesday),” said Titans coach Brian Klumpp. “I was proud of the guys for coming out focused for the nonleague game against a very talented Hatboro-Horsham team.”
Zach Steinberg, Colin Mauz and Bryan Rossi had two hits each for the Titans and played a part in a big first inning.
Steinberg led off with a single and went to third on a Mauz single. Steinberg scored on an error, and then Brock Veit hit the team’s third straight single to start the game. Jake Trachtenberg followed with a sacrifice fly to score another run for an early 3-0 lead.
Down 4-0, Hatboro-Horsham made a push in the bottom of the third. Jimmy Tooley singled and later scored on a passed ball. Anthony Liott and Bradan Mallon then hit back-to-back RBI doubles to make it a 4-3 game.
South added one in the fourth, only to see H-H tie the game with two runs in the fifth, as Bruno and Mallon both had RBI singles.
Trachtenberg and Rossi had singles and came around to score on Martino’s game-winner in the seventh.
Chuckie Carter, Ryan Zakrewski and Jake McKeown all pitched multiple innings on the mound, and McKeown picked up the win, working around a double by Hatboro-Horsham’s Andrew Lastowka in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory.
“(They) did a great job on the mound for us,” Klumpp said. “They haven’t had much work up until this point so it was good for them to come out and throw well. They did a good job of getting out of jams and really pounding the mitt.”
CB South (6-3) plays at Quakertown back in SOL Continental action on Tuesday. Hatboro-Horsham (10-3), in first place in the SOL American, hosts Upper Dublin on Tuesday.

Sixteen players got into the game and seven pitchers recorded outs, and when it was over Upper Dublin proved too much for visiting Nueva Esperanza in an 8-3 nonleague win for the Flying Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.
“It was a total team win,” said UD coach Ed Wall. “Esperanza’s starter was tough and was able to work out of some jams.
“We were able to get a big inning late to put it away with some big at-bats and good base running.”
Upper Dublin managed six hits, by six different players, and had some timely hits in big spots.
Trailing 1-0, the Cardinals countered with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Singles by Nick Lombardo and Brian McPeak were followed by a walk, and a run scored on a RBI groundout by Jacob Womelsdorf. McPeak scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.
Nueva Esperanza tied it in the fourth only to see UD answer again with two in the bottom of the fourth, as John Kohlbrenner scored on a wild pitch and Chris Greve later came to the plate on a passed ball.
After Esperanza drew to within 4-3, with a run in the sixth, the Cardinals put the game away for good with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Elijah Peck and Lombardo picked up RBIs on bunts, Justin Richmond had a RBI sac fly, and Lombardo scored on a double steal.
On the mound, after starter Adam Overton pitched the first two innings, Sam Frezel, Grant Gill, Griffin Johnson and Drew Stover all threw an inning each for UD. Sean Curran and Peck both threw in the seventh to secure the victory.
Upper Dublin improved to 7-4 overall with the win and will be back in action Tuesday at Hatboro-Horsham in an SOL American Conference game.

Bensalem 13, Upper Merion 1 (5 innings)
Bensalem won its fifth straight game Thursday, venturing out of the league to rout Upper Merion by a 13-1 final score in five innings.
The Owls pounded out 12 hits, including two each by Austin Shay, Nick Dean and Keith Rooney. They also had five doubles on the day off the bats of Dean, Dawson Fontaine, Rooney, Shay and Jalen Soberal. Shay finished with three RBIs as well.
Trailing 1-0, Bensalem exploded with five runs in the top of the second to take command. Shay drove in the first run with a RBI single, followed by a bases loaded walk to Matt Silano, an error, and a two-run single by Dom Grady.
Bensalem scored four runs in the third and four more in the fourth and the game was halted due to the mercy rule after five innings.
Ryan McLaughlin and Matt McShane combined for the victory on the mound. McLaughlin picked up the winning, allowing just one unearned run in three innings. He did not allow a hit and walked just one. McShane pitched two shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Bensalem (6-2) has another nonleague game scheduled for Saturday when it hosts Abraham Lincoln.

Springside-Chestnut Hill 6, Springfield 0
Springfield fell behind early and couldn’t get back into the game, as it lost a nonleague game to Springside-Chestnut Hill Academy by a 6-0 final on Thursday.
Senior Jack Trader had the Spartans’ lone hit on the day.
Sean Comely, Tyler Borowiec, Campbell and Max Doll all saw time on the mound for Springfield as well.
Springfield (2-9) is back in action Tuesday when it plays at Abington in a SOL American Conference game.
