Non-league
NESHAMINY 3, HOLY GHOST 1
Runs didn’t come easily for either side in Saturday’s non-league contest, but the Redskins capitalized on their opportunities to earn the hard-fought win.
“It was nice to pick up a non-league win and play against a good Holy Ghost Prep team,” Neshaminy coach Dan Toner said. “We have been struggling on offense, so we needed to find a way to get the W today. Our bats aren’t where they need to be quite yet, but we are getting closer.”
The Firebirds got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the first, but Neshaminy evened the score in the top of the third. Mike Morrow drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third when Anthony Trommer followed with a single. Trommer was forced out at second on Rob Del Buono’s fielder’s choice that allowed Morrow to score the equalizer.
In the top of the fifth, Neshaminy scored the go-ahead run. With the bases empty, Trommer drew a two-out walk and stole second. He scored when Del Buono lined a single to center.
In the top of the seventh, the Redskins tacked on an insurance run. Morrow drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on a two-out miscue by the Firebirds.
“We did a real good job running the bases today, and that was the reason we were able to push some runs across,” Toner said.
Luke Hardnock accounted for two of Neshaminy’s three hits and finished the day 2-for-3. Del Buono was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
“Rob DelBuono came through for us on offense today and was that big situation hitter we have been missing in some of the games we have lost,” Toner said.
Ryan Jacobson started on the mound and allowed six hits and one run in four innings. He struck out one and walked two. Jimmy Seedes threw three scoreless innings to close out the game, allowing three hits and striking out one.
“With four games this week and not many pitchers available, Ryan Jacobson and Jimmy Seedes kept the game in control for us,” Toner said. “We are getting close to where we need to be, and hopefully, we can turn it around next week.”
Neshaminy (7-4, 4-4 SOL) will travel to Pennridge on Tuesday for a crossover game.

HARRY S TRUMAN 6, HOPEWELL VALLEY CENTRAL (NJ) 2
What a difference a week makes
Last week this time, the Tigers were 2-3. After Saturday’s win – their fourth this week and sixth in the last seven games – the Tigers are 6-3.
“The kids are buying in,” Truman coach Kevin Sinkiewicz said. “This week we had really good outings from our pitching.
“Today it was Ryan Kerns, who’s a sophomore. He was on our jayvee team, he went to Florida with us, and he’s been in two scrimmage games, but this was his first innings in a real game. He was actually throwing a perfect game through three innings and walked a guy in the fourth. He pounded the strike zone. Our defense had no errors. Yesterday we had six errors, and we were able to pull it out. Today, no errors, and Ryan was absolutely awesome.”
Kerns came within one out of tossing a no-hitter, allowing the first hit after back-to-back two-out walks in the seventh. He threw 90 pitches in 6 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and two runs. He struck out four and walked five. Wyatt Spinks recorded the final out.
“It was a really good week,” Sinkiewicz said. “It’s hard – we had three league games this week, and we had a non-league game scheduled this morning with Hopewell.
“You don’t want anything to mess up the mojo because the non-leagues don’t count toward the playoffs, but our kids – after having that big walk-off win (over Souderton) yesterday – had to get up early this morning. We were at Truman at 8 a.m.”
The early wake-up call didn’t faze the Tigers, who opened up a 3-0 lead after two innings. In the first, Spinks, who led off with a single, scored on Gabe Marrero’s groundout.
In the second, Luke Olivero lined a one-out single to right, moved up to second on a wild pitch and scored when Alex Matlack was safe on a two-base error. Aqual Chapman’s line single to left plated Matlack for the 3-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Sprinks led off with a single and scored when Andrew Armstrong lined a one-out triple to left. Marrero’s single scored Armstrong, and Caleb Wright brought home the game’s final run when he lined a double to left.
“This four in a row has been all team,” Sinkiewicz said. “All me and my coaches preach is that you can’t win a game with just one person. It has to be a full effort.
“All of our pitchers this week – (Ryan) Cavanaugh, Armstrong, Austin Allen yesterday and now Ryan Kerns today – gave us a lot of innings, and we were able to produce. Our offense is starting to click a little bit, and we’re really excited for what’s to come.”
Spinks led the Tigers’ 10-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort that included two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Armstrong was 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI and run scored. Marrero was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
“We scored in the first inning and off we went,” Sinkiewicz said. “It took a little while this season – a new coaching staff. Tim Monaghan has coached Truman for a long time. I was the assistant last year, and I took over. I have Johnny Chioda as my assistant coach. Sometimes with new coaches it takes a little bit of time. We worked a lot on things, and things are starting to fall in place, and kids are starting to buy in, and it’s exciting.”

LOWER MORELAND 5, MaST CHARTER 4 (9 innings)
It took nine innings, but it was worth the wait when freshman Jackson Calder delivered a one-out single that brought Mason Tammaro home for a much-needed walk-off win.
“It’s been a really long and trying week for us,” LM coach Mike Guido said. “It started with a heartbreaking walk-off loss to Tennant, continued with two crossover games where we got mercy ruled, and today we finally got to have our fun with a walk-off in the ninth at home.
“But even though today doesn’t count for districts, it was a much-needed morale boost. I was glad to see the boys enjoying the win on the field. ”
Tammaro led off the ninth with a single and moved up to second on Patrick Kennedy’s sacrifice bunt. James Cronin singled, and Tammaro held at third, setting the stage for Calder’s game-winner.
Donato Incollingo threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win on the mound. He struck out eight and walked one. Matthew Wenger threw the first five-and-a-third innings, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out six and walking two.
“I can’t say enough about the two freshmen catchers, Bradley Horsnall, who started the game behind the dish, and Jackson Calder, who came in midway through the game back there,” Guido said. “(Matt) Dymowski was due for a day off, and we had the confidence in both these kids to get them on the field. Brad did a great job handling the game with Wenger on the mound.
“Jackson came in and defensively made an impact with a strike-em-out, throw-em-out late in the game. Then the kid comes up in the ninth, game tied and walks it off with a single. Both these catchers worked out in the offseason with Dymowski to bring their play to the level where they can compete and make a difference for us. It paid off for everyone today.”
Earlier in the game, Lower Moreland and MaST exchanged runs. MaST put a run on the board in the top of the fifth, and the Lions got one back in the bottom of the frame.
In the top of the sixth, MaST scored three, and Lower Moreland answered with three in its half of the inning. Dymbowski and Incollingo both contributed a sac fly in the inning to knot the score 4-4. Neither team scored again until the ninth.
Kennedy’s 2-for-4 effort with a double led the Lions. Xavier Gonzales was 1-for-3 with a double and run scored.
Lower Moreland (4-5, 2-5 SOL) will be on the road at Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.

SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL 15, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 2
The visiting Blue Devils led by just a 1-0 score heading into the fourth inning. They score two in the fourth and 12 more over the next three innings, benefitting from some free passes and several Spartan miscues to earn the non-league win.
For the Spartans, Bashir Taufeeq was 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot, and Thomas Baranaukas had a triple.
Springfield Township (4-4, 4-3 SOL) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham on Tuesday.
