The visiting Lions brought a welcome end to a 10-game skid with a hard-earned road win.
The Lions rode the gutsy pitching performance of John Whelan, who picked up the win in 5.2 innings on the mound, allowing six hits and striking out four.
“John has pitched well all season, but today he didn’t have his best stuff,” Coach Tony Vlahovic said. “He was working behind most hitters, but he gutted it out.
“He is a quiet warrior on the mound, and today he figured it out with his B stuff.”
JT Bach picked up his first varsity save in relief.
Chase Solkoff was 3-for-4 for Tennent and scored a run.
New Hope hitting was led by Brooks Saft with a long double and a sacrifice fly. Charlie Plebani and Blake McCagg each drove in a run for the Lions.
“Our defense was flawless today,” Vlahovic said. “It’s been a tough 10-game run without a win, but the coaches have been stressing fundamentals, better communication and changing our approach with two strikes. Today we finally put it all together.”
New Hope-Solebury (3-11, 1-10 SOL) will look to make it two in a row when the Lions travel to Cheltenham Tuesday. William Tennent (3-9, 2-8) will host Springfield Twp on Tuesday.

Non-league
Neshaminy 7, Upper Dublin 1
Jared Kligerman gave the Redskins exactly what they needed in Monday’s non-league game, going for six-and-a-third innings but needing just 71 pitches (52 strikes) in a winning effort on the mound.
“We have a jam-packed week ahead of us, playing Monday-Thursday,” Neshaminy coach Dan Toner said. “We needed some pitchers to step up for us, and sophomore Jared Kligerman came up huge.
“We had Jared on a pitch count, so we could bring him back later in the week. We were hoping he could give us four innings with that number and instead he almost pitched the entire game. Jared’s efficiency today was incredible. He was never in trouble and got ahead of hitters the entire game. It was very good to see from one of our younger pitchers.”
Kligerman allowed just four hits and one run, striking out six and walking none.
Neshaminy put three runs on the board in the top of the second, capitalizing on two walks and a single by B Lall for the first. Anthony Trommer’s double to right field plated a pair for the 3-0 lead.
The Redskins added single runs in the fourth and fifth – both without collecting a hit. R Triano’s single in the seventh plated a run, and Chase Bonner’s line triple to center field put the Redskins on top 7-0.
In the bottom of the inning, UD scored its only run. Kligerman left the game with two on and one out. Ryan Jacobson closed it out
Trommer’s 2-for-4 day at the plate included a double, two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Redskins.
“We played a well-rounded game today as well,” Toner said. “We had some opportunities we need to come through on, but offensively we did a nice job. Anthony Trommer has turned it on and has had some real good at bats the past couple of games.”
Neshaminy (11-2, 9-2 SOL) will host Pennsbury Tuesday, and Upper Dublin (10-3, 8-1 SOL) will travel to Quakertown for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
