ABINGTON 6, HARRY S TRUMAN 2 (Resumed game)
The Tigers were ready to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning of a 2-2 game on April 22 when the contest was suspended because of rain. It was anybody’s game when the two teams resumed action on Monday, but Conor Breslin made sure the scales tipped in the Ghosts’ favor in his first extended action on the mound, tossing four shutout innings.
Breslin – who threw two innings in relief against Council Rock North in his only other stint on the mound – allowed just two hits while walking one and fanning a pair.
“We’re glad to have him back,” coach Dave Torresani said. “He was expected to be our ace, and he was hurt and is just coming back. It was a big lift.”
The Ghosts scored three runs in the fifth to go on top 5-2. Nick Bein contributed an RBI double, and Justin Yerkes drove in a run on a safety squeeze that he turned into a bunt single. Breslin picked up an RBI in the inning when he drew a bases-loaded walk.
In the seventh, Breslin helped his own cause when he delivered a two-out RBI single for the 6-2 final.
“The big thing was – Breslin shut them down in the fourth, and we came out and scored the four runs in the fifth,” Torresani said. “That really helped tremendously.
“It was a big game for both teams. Every game is big for teams trying to get into the playoff push, so this was huge.”
Bein led the Ghosts with a 3-for-4 day at the plate that included two doubles and an RBI. Breslin was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Abington (9-5, 6-4 SOL) will host Bensalem on Tuesday while Truman (7-7, 4-6) will travel to Pennsbury.

NORRISTOWN 3, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 1
In a contest dominated by pitching, it was the Eagles earning the hard fought win. Joseph Cook earned the complete game win, allowing four hits and only only one run while walking five and striking out a pair.
Tom Piccari had a pair of doubles and scored two runs to lead the Eagles, who also had just four hits. Tom Detwiler put the Eagles on the board with an RBI double in the first that plated Picarri. Charles Grello added a single and RBI.
The Eagles tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth to go on top 3-0. The Colonials got on the scoreboard with a single run in the bottom of the inning, but that was the extent of the scoring for both teams.
Zach Metz, who threw 5.2 innings, was charged with the loss, allowing three hits and three runs (one earned) while walking four and striking out four. Connor Kissane threw a scoreless inning and a third to close it out for the Colonials.
Gavin Brody and Joe Jordan each had a double for the Colonials with Jordan accounting for his team’s lone RBI in the bottom of the sixth.

WILLIAM TENNENT 16, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 12
The Panthers pounded out 15 hits and scored 16 runs – equaling their run output in the last four games combined in one game Monday.
“They really hit the ball well,” coach Rick Penecale said. “It was the best, by far, that we’ve hit the ball all year.
“It kind of came out of nowhere – I wasn’t expecting that. We get off the bus, and (Paul) McElroy wasn’t there because he had to take a test, and he’s probably our best hitter. We brought up a couple kids from jayvee, and they played really well.”
No one hit the ball better than freshman Greg Delgado, who led the Panthers with a 4-for-5 effort that included a triple and three RBIs.
“He’s been back and forth as a ninth grader,” Penecale said. “He’s going to be very good.
“He made varsity at tryouts, but he was struggling, so we sent him back for a couple of games. I think he got his confidence back a little bit, and he’s been hitting the ball pretty well since we brought him back up.”
Ryan Lucas was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. AJ Shapiro was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Timmy Brodhag was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. The top four hitters in the Panthers’ lineup each scored three runs. Nick Catalidi contributed a three-run triple.
The Patriots led 2-1 after one inning, thanks to a two-run blast by David Yanni, but the Panthers scored six runs in the second to take a lead they would not lose. East trimmed that lead to 7-5 with three runs in the bottom of the second, but the Panthers scored three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go on top 12-5. The Patriots scored three runs in both the sixth and seventh, but a four-run outburst by the Panthers in the seventh all but sealed East’s fate.
East was led by the 3-for-5 effort of David Yanni, who had a home run with five RBIs and one run scored. Cameron Komanchak was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Eric Poppke was 3-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored.
Austin Beck earned the win in his first varsity game.
Tennent (2-13, 1-9 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Tuesday while CB East (10-5, 8-2) will travel to Central Bucks South.
