SPRINGFIELD TWP 7, LA SALLE 4
The Spartans managed just five hits but benefitted from six walks and two hit batters as well as a pair or errors to plate four runs.
Charlie Dyke started and earned the win, allowing two hits and one run in two innings.
By the numbers: Springfield Twp: Owen Hastings (3 RBIs).
Key inning: Top of fifth: Matthew Sokol and Ryan McGuickin drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning, and the bases were loaded when Jon Matthew was hit by a pit. A walk to Chris Cahill pushed a run across, and a pair of runs scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Hastings.
Springfield Twp coach Rob Bond: “Last game of the regular season, and we got to play a very strong LaSalle team. We were able to get some young pitchers some work. Charlie Dyke, Jake Gibson, Grayson Quinn and Ryan Trader were around the plate all day. It was great to get these guys some work. Offensively, we didn’t produce a lot but were able to take advantage of some miscues. There are always things to work on, which we will this week, but you can’t complain when you get a win.”
Up next: Springfield Twp closed out its regular season with a 17-3 record. The Spartans are seeded first in District 1 Class 4A.
