SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 7, UPPER DUBLIN 6
The Spartans keep finding ways to win, and 24 hours after riding the strong arms of their pitching staff to a 1-0 win over Quakertown, the Spartans used a five-run fifth to erase a 5-2 lead on their way to their third win of the week. The win solidified the Spartans’ stronghold as the second seed in the District One 4A power rankings.
In the bottom of the first, the Spartans put a pair on the board. Jake Welsh, who led off with a single, scored on Tim Dahme’s triple to center. Nick Pave’s sacrifice fly to left plated Dahme, and the Spartans led 2-0.
After plating an unearned run in the second, the Cardinals scored three in the third that included an RBI single by Julian Gimbel and Brian McPeak’s two-out RBI double. Upper Dublin took a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth when the never-say-die Spartans scored five runs. The inning was highlighted by an RBI single from Kevin Keown, RBI doubles from Mitchell McCann and Trevor McCaffrey and an RBI triple from Macleod Farley.
