Non-League
NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 6, SOUTH CUMBERLAND (NJ) 1
The Lions brought a welcome end to an eight-game skid with a non-league win over Cumberland Regional High from Vineland N.J.
Cumberland scored a run in the second inning. New Hope came back with two in the third and four in the fourth.
Brooks Saft had two RBIs with a double and home run. Nate Wiseman and Nate Klossner had two hits apiece.
“Our batting order came to life today,” NH-S coach Tony Vlahovic said. “Brooks broke it open, and the bottom of the order put the ball in play.
“It’s been a long eight-game skid, and it was good to our hitters regain some confidence. “
On the mound, John Whelan kept a tough Cumberland lineup off balance, allowing only four hits.
“John’s mix of three pitches was on today,” Vlahovic said. “He pitched ahead, and our defense was solid.
“Saul Carmenini came in and secured the win with a six-out save. Saul’s fastball had good movement and his curveball was breaking well.”
New Hope-Solebury (4-11, 2-10 SOL) will host Springfield Township on Tuesday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 9, MaST CHARTER 8
The visiting Panthers opened up a 9-4 lead and then held off a late MaST rally in Saturday’s non-league game.
The Panthers put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the first. Tim Lawson led off the inning with a single. That was the lone hit in an inning that included three walks, including a bases-loaded walk to Mike Woehr. A fielder’s choice accounted for the second run and a 2-0 lead.
MaST answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Panthers evened the score in the top of the second when Drew Rommel, who singled to lead off the frame, scored on a one-out double by Lawson.
Tennent took a 5-3 lead in the top of the third when they scored a pair of runs without a hit. MaST trimmed that advantage to 5-4, but the Panthers scored four in the top of the six to go on top 9-4.
Highlighting the inning was a two-run double to left by Daniel Scheller and an RBI single by Nate Scotese. The Panthers benefitted from a pair of MaST errors in the inning.
MaST scored two in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the bottom of the seventh. They had the tying run on third, but the Panthers closed it out.
Lawson was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Scotese was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Rommel was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
William Tennent (4-11, 2-9 SOL) will travel to Upper Moreland on Tuesday.
