SOL Colonial/Patriot Crossovers
Neshaminy 53, Central Bucks East 42
Neshaminy needed this one, and when it was over had its best win of the season; knocking off visiting SOL Colonial-leading CB East by 11.
Not only was it a big boost confidence-wise, but the Patriots are unofficially third in the District One Class 6A power points. The win jumped Neshaminy up to No. 17 for what will be a 24-team playoff field next month.
“It was definitely a big win,” said Neshaminy coach Mark Tingle. “We had a win on the road at Souderton Friday, but a couple games before that we were in a rut. Obviously, we’re out of the rut now. We played solid team defense and controlled the ball. We held (CB East) to 42 points, and they usually score in the 60s.”
“Our better defenders were on their better players. We just had to make sure to stay in front of them. They usually shoot a ton of ‘3s’. Tonight, they only had three as a team. We wanted to make sure they didn’t get good looks. Make them attack the rim.”
Neshaminy started slowly, trailing 12-5 after one, but bounced back to take the lead by halftime, and then slowly pulled away in the second half.
The combination of Sean Curley (18), Nate Townsend (18) and Emeer Coombs (13) scored 49 of Neshaminy’s 53 points.
“Those three came to play,” Tingle said. “They had the ball in their hands a lot, but we were moving the ball and we tried to get them good looks.
“Tonight, it just happened like that. Throughout the year, we’ve had a couple other guys score four in six points, but in reality those three take most of the shots, and tonight they shot the ball well.”
CB East, which was without leading scorer Jacob Cummiskey, was led by Joey Giordano with 11 points, while Justin DiRoberto added 10.
Neshaminy (9-6, 6-4 SOL) is home against Friday against CB West.
CB East (14-2, 9-1 SOL) hosts Council Rock North on Friday.

North Penn 56, Bensalem 51
Down 18 in the third quarter, North Penn was jump-started by strong efforts off the bench from Ahmaar Godhania, Lee Hammond and Corey Meade and rallied all the way back to knock off Bensalem at home on Tuesday.
“They got us all the way back,” said North Penn coach John Conrad. “We got great minutes from them.
“You can talk about it all you want, but until you get into a game like this tonight, you don’t know. It was a real good lesson for those kids. You’ve got to be ready to go.”
The first two and a half quarters were not the type of basketball North Penn has been playing of late. Bensalem led 32-21 at halftime and that lead even grew in the third, behind the play of junior Antonio Morris who had 16 of his game-high 17 in the second and third quarter.
“We had 12 turnovers in the first half and just didn’t take care of the basketball,” Conrad said. “We didn’t share the ball. I thought we were very selfish and (Bensalem was) able to capitalize on that. Turnovers and easy baskets.”
In the comeback, Meade scored nine points for the Knights, Godhania had a pair of 3-pointers and Hammond “was locked in defensively.”
North Penn still trailed 48-40 heading into the fourth, but was able to eventually grab the lead and made the plays down the stretch to pull out the win.
“It was a tie score with a minute to go,” Conrad said. “(Ryan) Deininger dribble-penetrated, made a great pass to (Ryan) Zeltt, who had a great finish and an and-one. We were able to get a stop defensively and made our free throws to finish the game.”
Norm Gee scored 13 points to lead North Penn scorers, followed by Meade with nine and Zeltt with eight.
After Morris, the Owls had Eric Gonzalez and Jack Wineburg with nine points each.
“Another tough league battle tonight,” Bensalem coach Ron Morris said. “I need to do a better job putting our guys in proper position in those moments. North Penn played great defense at the end of the third and fourth quarter. They also made timely shots. We will watch this and learn and get ready for another war on Friday.”
North Penn (11-4, 7-3 SOL) next plays Thursday at Harry S. Truman.
Bensalem (9-6, 5-5 SOL) looks to rebound Friday at home against Pennridge.

Council Rock North 52, Souderton 41
Adam Mahtat scored 25 points in three quarters as CR North started quickly and got past visiting Souderton Tuesday, 52-41.
“We played well tonight,” said CR North assistant coach Tyler Sessa-Reeves. “Souderton is a good team, well-coached and they play really hard. It was our Senior Night for us, so it was really nice to get a win, while celebrating our eight seniors.”
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for CR North.
“Our boys have been battling every game and the last couple games haven’t gone our way, so it feels good for everyone to get back in the win column,” Sessa-Reeves said. “Adam played well, shot the ball well tonight, Micah (Oxley) was aggressive looking to score and Jack (Blum) put the game away at the free throw line. Great team win.”
Oxley scored 12 points for CR North, while Blum was 7-for-8 from the free throw line and finished with nine points.
Souderton only scored three points in the second quarter and that proved its undoing. James Blair scored a team-high 15 points, while Nate Hemsing added nine.

Pennridge 66, Council Rock South 56
Leading scorer Matt Campione started strong and then Pennridge got a huge lift off the bench from Gannon Perlini in the second half as it outlasted CR South on Tuesday.
“We had four guys in double figures; are you kidding me?” said Pennridge coach Dean Behrens. “That’s pretty good.
“We started out, Matt was on fire. He hit two ‘3s’ right away. He had 11 points in the first quarter. That got the party started. Gannon Perlini had 13 points in the fourth quarter. He had three ‘3s’.
“I’m really happy for him. He’s such a happy-go-lucky kid. It’s been hard for him. He hasn’t been starting, but he’s taken his role well. He’s a good teammate. He really taking advantage of the opportunities. We couldn’t get him out tonight.”
The Rams played from in front, but it was never easy. They led 19-16 after one and 33-27 at halftime.
“I thought Council Rock South gave us everything we could handle,” Behrens said. “The kid (Matt) Robinson played really well for them. They hit a lot of ‘3s’ That’s a team that shoots a lot of ‘3s’ and we had trouble keeping in front of them. Credit to them. They’re comfortable shooting ‘3s’ and they even cut it to two in the fourth quarter, but then Gannon caught fire, we got it to seven and we put it away.”

Cheltenham 62, Quakertown 45
Cheltenham exploded for 21 points in the third quarter and rolled to the road win over Quakertown in a crossover game on Tuesday.
“They have quality wins; they’re a good team,” said Cheltenham coach Patrick Fleury of Quakertown. “Everybody is, but we’re clearly fighting for our playoff lives. It’s unfamiliar territory, and we don’t necessarily expect this year in and year out, but we are proud of the collective effort that we had. There were a lot of things that didn’t show up in the stat sheet that made us win today, and those are the things that make a program, not so much just a team but a program.”
For Cheltenham, the win snapped a four-game losing streak.
Josiah Hutson scored a game-high 20 for Cheltenham, including 14 in the second half.
Kamani Healey added 14 points, nine in the second half, while Malik Hughes added eight.
“For tonight, it was good to see us play through mistakes and not worry so much about it,” Fleury said. “We were down 11-10 in the first quarter, and we started to stick to who we are and what we want to become, which is a defense-first team.
“We’ve still got to work on a good amount of things, obviously a lot of things, but that’s a quality team, they have quality wins, and to go on the road and get one makes for a good beginning.
“At this point, we’re fighting for our lives. We don’t have many more chances. With that being said, everything we approach has to be with a certain level of intensity and a certain level of unselfishness, and then whatever the results are we’ll take that together.”
Quakertown was led by Miles Longacre with 14 points and Ethan Tomlinson with 13.

Kyle Dittus scored a team-high 17 points and was clutch from the free throw line in the second half, going 5-for-8, including the game-winners with four second remaining to give Hatboro-Horsham the huge rivalry game win at home.
“It was big,” said Hatters’ coach Rick Fedele. “The vibe in the gym was crazy. The kids were all pumped for this game. It was like a playoff atmosphere. It was awesome.
“The kids just played hard. It was an even game. It was tied at halftime. They just battled.”
In the first half, Dittus had 10 points, and hit three 3-pointers. He did most of his damage in the second half from the foul line. Noah Schlosser added 13 points.
“We got another solid game from our freshman, Kenny Lutz,” Fedele said. “He did a good job for us. He had five points and a couple rebounds. Mason Bynum was sick, we got him back and he had a big layup in the third quarter. Matt Wingen had eight points for us, all in the second half. Jake Grier had three steals and four assists. He moved the ball on offense and kept them in check.
“The key for us was to keep (Alex) Best in check and keep (Colson) Campbell from doing too much damage.”

Wissahickon 65, Lower Moreland 59
It was a big shooting night for Wissahickon junior Dom Vacchiano, who hit five 3-pointers and scored 31 points as the Trojans pulled away from this one early and then held off a furious Lower Moreland rally in the fourth quarter.
“We were up by 20 in the second and third quarters,” said Wissahickon coach Kyle Wilson. “In the fourth quarter, we went deep into our bench, turned the ball over like crazy, and (Lower Moreland) was able to cut it down to six.
“But the final score looked closer than it was. For three quarters, we played some of the best basketball we’ve played in a while.”
Vacchiano had eight points in the first quarter, and then later added 13 in the third.
“He had a nice shooting night,” Wilson said. “They went (to a 2-3 zone), Dom hit a big shot. They went 1-3-1, Dom hit a big shot. They even pressed, Earl (Stout) beat it, kicked it out to Dom and Dom hit a nice shot.
“It’s nice to watch a player score well but not press to score. It seemed like he was in the flow and the guys fed off of it. Will Kirkpatrick played well off the bench. Owen Coughlin, our center, played great defense.”
Kevin Hegedus had 17 for LM, while Tom Pryzblinski added 15 and John Kroll 12.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 72, William Tennent 52
In this battle of division leaders, Plymouth Whitemarsh jumped up double figures in the first half and blew past Tennent 72-52 on Tuesday.
“The concern is, I’m still not quite comfortable with this team being experienced enough to handle constant winning,” said PW coach Jim Donofrio. “It takes a certain mindset. Are you going to be motivated or are you going to get comfortable?
“We were so good against Methacton (a 74-44 win Saturday), and it’s just human nature. It’s hard to stay that focused all the time. It happens in sports all the time.
“We had one day to prepare for Tennent, and I think Tennent is really hard to watch on film. They’re much better live than watching them on film. I don’t know if the kids appreciated that. They got these two guys that can really play and put the ball in the basket.”
The Colonials started quickly, jumping up 24-10 after one and 41-12 at halftime.
“In all honesty, if you look at what we’ve been doing, to hold teams to 13 points at halftime, nine points, 12 points, and then to see two guys who can really score,” Donofrio said. “I think a lot of times with us, teams are going to really be very focused.
“If you have a winning record, they need that win for seedings. We were ahead on talent some of the time, so I wasn’t happy with that, but it did force us to understand, Chase Coleman, Qudire Bennett and Jaden Colzie had to really raise their defensive performances, and it still wasn’t enough.
“It’s a nice little wake-up call (about) how focused you have to be and not get too comfortable with winning games big. At any moment, it can turn. You see it happen with the Sixers. You have a bad night. In high school, you only get 22 games, and you can’t really afford a bad night.
“I think this was good for us. It was a comfortable lead but not comfortable. Tennent does a good job of playing fast. They get down the floor fast, so it was new stuff for us to work on. Hopefully, that helps us.”
Bennett led PW with 27 points, while Colzie had 18, Coleman 14 and Jah Sayles 10.
Kirby Mooney (22) and George Marion (19) combined for 41 of Tennent’s 52 points.
