SOL Patriot Division
Pennsbury 57, Bensalem 49
Tied going into the fourth, first-place Pennsbury never had a lot of breathing room against Bensalem Friday night, but the Falcons made the plays they needed to late to overcome a deficit in the final quarter on the way to the 57-48 victory over Bensalem.
Patrick Jajua, who scored 15 points and was 10-for-10 from the line for the game, hit a pair of free throws with two minutes remaining to tie the game. Sean Breslin hit a 3-pointer on Pennsbury’s next possession to give it the lead for good.
In all, the Falcons were 22-for-25 from the foul line.
Key Players: Aside from Jajua’s 15, Pennsbury was led by Brady Kent with 12 and Breslinw with 11.
Bensalem was led by Jacob Eberhardt with 18 and Mike Ellzy with 16.
Pennsbury coach Wes Emme:
“They were beating us with three minutes left. Yeah, we saw some adversity tonight – a couple guys out with sickness and some tough shooting nights for a couple of our guys. But I just think, Bensalem really came locked in. And Jerry’s such a great dude. And he’s really working with those kids to keep them going. And they came prepared for a battle tonight. Jacob Eberhardt and MJ Elzey were both really outstanding with the ball, attacking us off the dribble, and we struggled to guard them for a good portion of the game.
“But, with any team, if you want to win a championship, you’re going to have to be incredibly resilient. And I think that’s what we were tonight.”
–Late: “So I thought Max Manga absolutely took over the second half on the offensive glass. Just dominated the backboard and got us a lot of second-chance points. He had a big three-point play off an offensive rebound, and then Sean Breslin hit a dagger 3 on the next possession to give us the lead for good. And then we were able to knock down free throws, particularly Pat Jajua and Brayden Clark at the end of the game.”

Council Rock North 42, Neshaminy 40
CR North led by 11 going into the fourth and then withstood Neshaminy’s charge as the Indians pulled out the close 42-40 win in Patriot Division play on Friday night.
As a team, CR North went 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, and 11-for-16 for the game, to clinch the win.
Key Players: Owen Crowne scored 15 points, while Dylan Kiefer had 11 points and went 4-for-4 from the line in the second half.
Neshaminy was led by Logan Gale’s 16 points, three second-half 3-pointers.
CR North assistant coach Brandon Knotts:
“Tonight, we won because of our hard play and consistent effort. We never gave up with the way the game went back and forth in the fourth quarter. We played North basketball tonight and Dylan Kiefer led the way again.”

Lucian Mirc and CR South started out quickly and then held on in the second half to edge Truman by six, the fifth win in the last six games for the Golden Hawks.
Key Players: CR South was led by Lucian Mirc’s 21 points, 11 of which came in a huge first quarter. Ryan Delp added 12 points.
Davae Vaughn led Truman scorers with 14, while Adul Diallo added 12.
CR South coach Jim Cassidy:
“We were fortunate to jump out to a big lead, but we have a way of making things interesting. I have tremendous respect for Truman’s senior guards; they kept battling and brought their team back.
“I wasn’t happy that our execution dipped as far down as it did from where we were the first 10 minutes of the game, but nevertheless I’m extremely proud of the fight our guys showed when things weren’t going our way. We’ve asked a lot of Lucian Mirc this year; tonight was no different. Our coaching staff challenged him to be the kind of dominant two-way player that he’s capable of being, and he responded.
“We also leaned on seniors Delp and Madara once again, and Aidan Lydon gave us terrific minutes in crunch time. You can’t win these rivalry games without your seniors showing up, and Delp, (Joey) Madara and (Aidan) Lydon brought it tonight.”

Offensive purists might have cringed a little bit with this final, but in the end, good defense and taking care of the backboards was the difference here as CB East emerged with the six-point win over visiting Pennridge on Senior Night.
The Patriots honored five seniors – Henry Bartchak, Connor Mekanik, Brady Colbert, Jackson Lutz and Austin Loving.
Key Players: Henry Bartchak led all scorers with 17 points for CB East, including three 3-pointers. Connor Mekanik had five points, 13 rebounds, three steals and two blocks, Keegan Marascio had six points, six rebounds and three assists, and Quinn Slack added five rebounds.
Pennridge was led by Michael Alba and Ryan Flood with eight points each.
CB East coach Erik Henrysen:
“(It was) good defense, but I don’t think either team shot the ball well. And all the little things, rebounding and limiting one another to one shot. All those things were great, but we definitely didn’t put the ball in the basket.
“We got off to, I’d say like a 10-point lead and held like an 8-10 point lead for quite a bit of the second half. It was just a matter of getting stops and, and then trying to find good shots. And I thought that when the game did get tight down the stretch, Bartchak, Marascio and Mekanik all came through with big 3s that were really responses to Pennridge trying to close in.
“All we have left is our league games and positioning for the playoffs. And, so every win is important, but on the same hand, we’re just going to try to take it one game at a time.”

Souderton maintained its grip on first place in the Colonial Division, overcoming a first-half deficit to get past CB West by 13 points on Friday night.
Nate Rusike had a team-high 15 points to lead all scorers.
Key Players: Aside from Rusike, Marques Brown (12), Chanse Salone (10) and Koby Rollerson had 10 points each for Souderton.
For CB West, Dan Pellegrini led the way with 11, while John Vrettos added 10.
Souderton coach Brendan Stanton:
“I thought we came out a little flat tonight energy wise. We have gotten out to quick starts recently and shot the ball well. Tonight was a little bit of a slog early.
“CB West was very patient and made us guard, they did a nice job controlling the pace. I think in the second half we were able to refocus and play with more urgency. We defended and rebounded much better, which helped us get out in transition.
–Props: “It was another balanced effort tonight. … Marques Brown did a great job in the first half. He hit some shots, created some turnovers and rebounded it for us. I also thought Levi Epps had one of his best games for us this year. He rebounded, guarded the post, guarded the perimeter, knocked down a 3, cut well and made good decisions. He’s someone that doesn’t get a ton of spotlight for us but he’s adapted well and is finding his groove.”

CB South had a red-hot night from 3-point range, hitting on 10 for the game, to get past North Penn in a Friday night SOL Colonial game.
The Titans scored 24 points in the first quarter, hitting four 3s, including three off the bench from Cade Crim, to jump up 24-14 after one. North Penn, however, battled back to cut the halftime lead to 34-32, led by Chris Kingkiner, who had 15 of his team-high 23 in the first half.
South was able to stretch the lead again in the fourth and hang on late for the three-point win.
Key Players: Cade Crim had a huge night for the Titans off the bench, hitting five 3-pointers and scoring a team-high 15 points. Brayden Barrett had 13 points, including three first-half 3-pointers, while Kayote Adebayo (12) and Leo Medwid (10) also scored in double figures.
Aside from Kingkiner’s 23, Shane Ward had 11 and JC Wood 10 for North Penn.
CB South coach Louie Ditri:
“We had a definitely strong start. We scored 24 in the first quarter and had a little bit of a lapse in the second quarter. Their No. 3 (Kingkiner) had a nice first half, but we had trouble keeping guys in front. So, it was a battle, we had a two-point lead at halftime, but we definitely had a strong start, and we had four 3s in the first quarter, which helped us. In the second half, it was a much closer game. We did get a little bit of a lead in the second half, like six or seven, but they battled back, and then it became a four- or five-point game for the last minute or two. But it was definitely an up-and-down, fast-paced game.”
–Keys to victory: “We shot the ball really well in the first half. Cade Crimm came off the bench, hit three 3s in the first quarter, and then Brayden Barrett came off the bench and hit three 3s in the first half. Our shooting definitely is what helped, basically because we couldn’t keep guys in front, so our defense struggled, but I think our shooting helped us tonight.”
–Winning on the road: “North Penn’s gym is a tough place to play. The lights aren’t the brightest, they pack the house. It’s a tough environment to play in. And we’re hoping these type of games will give us some battle tests as we get towards the end of the season.”

Trailing by four at halftime and tied after three quarters, the fourth quarter was all Abington, as the Galloping Ghosts put up a 20-spot and avenged a previous defeat and knocked off Upper Dublin 56-48 on Friday night.
Abington. Coach Dan Marsh turned out to be prophetic in a lighthearted pregame exchange with UD coach Derek Brooks.
“I told him before the game, ‘You know, you are the only coach in our league that I haven’t beaten since I came to the boys’ side, but we’re going to beat you tonight,’ and he just laughed,” Abington coach Dan Marsh said. “After the game, he said, ‘I guess you were right,’ and I was like, ‘Listen, dude, you kick a chicken long enough, and eventually, you get bit in the ankle.’”
Key Players: Xander Grasty led all scorers with 18 points, 16 of which came in the second half, including 5-for-7 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Michael O’Rourke scored 15 points. He had three 3-pointers in the second quarter, and then scored six in the fourth quarter, including 3-for-4 from the line.
Upper Dublin was led by Kobe Bazemore, who had 16 points, and Justin Ragsdale with 13.
Abington coach Dan Marsh:
–The game: “It was just a grind out game, and I just think we ended up making more buckets than them. It could have gone either way. They got in foul trouble, which hurt them.”
–O’Rourke delivers: “Michael O’Rourke played amazing for us. He’s the one who opened it up for us. Their matchup zone is really good, and it takes away our strengths. So, we really needed someone to step up. Mike came in and caught fire. Mike got hot, and it really helped us.”
–Props: “Malcom Lucas, our center, got hurt, so Ray Rice and Josh Scarpello took turns and played that middle spot, and I think Derek smelled blood because number 3 (Justin Ragsdale) is so big, and as soon as Malcom went out, they started going to him, and I’m like ‘This kid is killing us,’ but then Ray and Josh went in – they didn’t stop him, but they slowed him down, and that was big for us too.
“(Elijah) Cruickshank hit a big shot in the first half. It was just a complete team effort. Declan Doyle came in and gave us some good minutes in the first half.
“Again, the bench was into it, the crowd was into it. It was a great rivalry match with a couple heavy hitters trading punches.”

It was a low-scoring game throughout, but Hatboro-Horsham was buoyed by a big third quarter, outscoring Quakertown 11-2 to create separation in what would be a 15-point win for the Hatters on Senior Night.
Seven of H-H’s 10 field goals were 3-points.
Key Players: Kenny Lutz finished with a game-high 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and 10 points in the third quarter.
H-H coach Bill Coleman: “It was Senior Night (and) it was great to see the energy in the gym for the second night in a row. Senior Jayden Tion got us started with a quick five points. Senior Kenny Lutz led the way with 12 points. … It wasn’t the prettiest of games but we got through it.”

Make it 10 straight for first-place PW, as the Colonials went on the road Friday night and slipped past Wissahickon 54-44.
But this one was far from easy, as Wissahickon erased a six-point halftime deficit and led going into the fourth quarter before PW turned it on in the fourth.
Mani Sajid and Michael Pereira combined for 16 points in a 21-point fourth quarter for the Colonials.
Key Players: Sajid led PW with 24 points, while Pereira added 13. Buddy Denard added 10.
Wissahickon was led by Nico Vacchiano who had a game-high 26, including 15 in the second half.
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Jim Donofrio:
–The closely contested game: “We kind of needed this. To win by 70 like the other night – no one gets anything out of it. It’s a major concern for me. It’s just been unnatural to win by this many. When teams get on rolls like this, there’s a reason why everything gets reset. We’re trying not to have things get reset.
“We’re now in the second round of games, and when you’re in the second round, people get payback mentality. Immature teams let paybacks happen, and great teams don’t.
“I was really impressed tonight with our guys because everything was in line psychologically for just a little bit of flatness. At Wissahickon – we’ve obviously fought against each other forever, and teams are going to try different things. As experienced as our guys are, it’s easy to forget about that.
“Wissahickon is not going to play us the same way they did the first time. Everyone’s changed. Nico Vacchiano is a competitive young guy and a terrific high school player, and he’s not going to be happy with the first result, so we knew he was going to show up. I thought Buddy Denard and Jack Hayes combined to just battle with him for 32 minutes.
“We were flat, and they were up in the third, and then all of a sudden, I saw this poised team show up, and that’s what we needed to see in ourselves. We said, ‘Okay, we know we’re good, and we can handle this.’ That’s a major accomplishment.
“Michael Pereira was kind of not there for three quarters, and all of a sudden, he was really there. And Mani made a few major shots that make him a star player. I just think when you’re experienced like we are and we’re talented and as hard as we play defensively, at some point, you’re going to wear people down.”
–The challenge ahead: “We have to look at these last four games – we have to be different than we were to start the season, and we are in major ways. We have a challenging event tomorrow afternoon. The first three times we did this, we were not very successful at it. I’m hoping we’re different there too.”

Offense was on full display for Cheltenham on Friday night, as the Panthers jumped up on visiting William Tennent and then put the game away with 42 points in the second half on the way to the 73-52 victory.
Cheltenham led 17-9 after one and 31-17 at halftime.
Key Players: Mark Hill scored 16 for Cheltenham, while Chris Harmon added 14.
Tennent was led by Tre Stracuzzi, who had five 3-pointers and 17 points, all in the second half.

“(I’m) just happy that the group is sharing the ball and building their cohesion and playing for a common goal. We will go as far as our cohesion allows us.”

This rivalry game lived up to its billing, as both teams battled back-and-forth all game, and in the end, Springfield made the plays down the stretch to pull out the five-point Freedom Division victory over Lower Moreland.
Key Players: Clay Trejbrowski led Springfield with 14 points, while Cahlin Spearman added 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists, and Will McLaughlin with 10 points, six assists and five rebounds.
Nathan Fellah led LM with 21 points, while Luke Wheeler added 11.
Springfield coach Mike DeCandido:
“Tonight was a great Friday night high school basketball game. Lower Moreland had a lot of students tonight, and they had the gym loud. It was a fun atmosphere. The game was close the entire time.
“Lower Moreland came out strong and took an early lead. Clay Trejbrowski came in and hit a couple 3s to help give us a spark on offense. We had the game tied at halftime, and took the lead in the second half, but Lower Moreland kept fighting back every time we made a run. They do a great job mixing up defenses and it really makes you think about what to do each possession.
“I give our guys a lot of credit. We haven’t played against zone too much this year, and our guys did a nice job moving the ball around and attacking the rim. We were able to hold them off at the end, thanks to a big 3 by Cahlin Spearman, a nice floater by Julian Ciasullo, and three big free throws by Will McLaughlin. They dug deep to get this win. I’m really proud of them.’
–Props: “Our starting five really turned it around in the second half. They didn’t start the game off very strong, but they stuck together and finished the game really well. We let them finish the game together and they held Lower Moreland off. They have done a great job finishing
games for us, and it was great to see them stick together.
“Clay Trejbrowski also gave us another huge spark off the bench. We weren’t scoring well at the start of the game, and he came in and hit a 3 right away. He hit four 3’s in the first half and that was a big lift for us when we needed it. He continues to be locked in for every game and helps us when we need him.”

A big second quarter gave Upper Moreland all the separation it would need as the Golden Bears won for the second time in as many days, running past visiting New Hope-Solebury by a 70-44 final score on Friday.
The Golden Bears outscored the Lions 15-4 in the second to open up a 35-14 halftime advantage.
Key Players: Sophomore Jose Hernandez led all Upper Moreland scorers with 16 points, while Cannon Campbell added 13.
For New Hope, Rocco Massimino had 18 points, while Linus Mackenzie was also in double figures with 15.
