BENSALEM 65, GLEN MILLS 41
The Owls made it five wins in a row, opening up a 23-11 lead after one quarter and never looking back.
“We’re starting to play pretty good ball,” coach Mike McCabe said. “In talking to their coach, he said, ‘We’re just young and inexperienced.’ I said, ‘Yeah, we felt like that at the beginning of the year, and we’re finally just starting to come around a little bit.’”
The Owls’ coach attributed at least some of his team’s improved play to watching film.
“Film doesn’t lie, and just showing them film on all the things we were doing wrong and wanting to get after it instead of just going through the motions,” McCabe said. “We just told them, ‘We’re not doing this, we’re not doing that. If you guys want to win and make the playoffs, here’s what we have to do,’ and I think they’ve responded really well.”
Nasir Williams led the Owls with 18 points.
“Nasir Williams really played well,” McCabe said. “He shot the ball well, he ran the point well, and he really penetrated.
“I think all around as a team we’re moving the ball better, we’re defending pretty well, but Nasir really played well.”
TJ Igielski also finished in double figures with 14 points. Shane Simmons added nine, and Lamont Hasker had eight.
Bensalem (11-7, 6-3 SOL) will travel to Council Rock South on Tuesday.
“We’ve got a big week this week with South up there Tuesday and then we have Truman at their place,” McCabe said. “Both teams are playing good ball. It’s tough. Every night it’s a battle. Like I said to the kids, ‘We control our own destiny.’ If we just keep playing hard and doing the right things, we should be all right”
