Kyle Wilson and his players may need a vacation after a three-games-in-three-days stretch that began with a four overtime non-league win over the Patriots.
“It wasn’t the way we wanted to start off a three-game stretch,” Wilson said after Thursday’s marathon win. “It just went back and forth and back and forth.
“It seemed like each team that had a chance to win it, the other team made a play to put themselves back within a possibility of winning. Each overtime – it was four points, four points, four points. Each team struggled to get off a good shot or a good look at the basket. Opportunities were there for both teams, but nobody could pull away from the other team.”
Finally, in the fourth overtime, the Trojans edged the Patriots 7-6.
“We had the lead, and they were trying to trap and foul,” Wilson said. “We ran the inbounds play, and we pretty much had it to run out the clock.
“We still gave them the ball back with eight seconds. Thank goodness they didn’t make it, and we won. Give the kids credit – it was a crazy night. At the end of the game, I looked at my assistant and said, ‘How many overtimes was that?’ I just lost track.”
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Trojans.
“We lost a very tough game to Perk Valley (65-56) over the break, and in that one, it was like – we still scored 56 points, but we just didn’t play good defense,” Wilson said. “Then we lost to Methacton 78-65, and we said, ‘We’re scoring points. We just have to play defense.’
“We had Cheltenham down by 14 points at halftime, and they came back and beat us 69-65. Where scoring was an issue for us last year, now we’re scoring but we’re not defending. We get into this game, and I wish I could we played good defense. We did play well, but it was also their style of offense where they just worked the ball and worked the ball. At the end of regulation, we had 37, and I’m thinking, ‘We’re setting the game back. We didn’t even score 40 points.’”
Zach Reiner led the Trojans with 19 points.
“He’s been battling back after a real bad ankle sprain in the second game of the year,” Wilson said. “We’ve been trying to be cautious with his minutes, but there was a point in the game were Chaz Owens fouled out, Max Rapoport fouled out, Marlyn Johnson fouled out, and we said to Zach, ‘All right, I was hoping to sub you out and get you a little rest,’ but he just gutted out one (heck) of a game.”
Shane Ford (12 points) and Donovan Oliphant (11 points) also finished the game in double figures.
For the Patriots, Matt Pattyson led the way with 19 points while Elijah Seger added 16. Colin Stein had eight points and Ben Markowitz, six points.
“Give credit to Erik Henrysen,” Wilson said. “He does a phenomenal job. They are so disciplined. They work the ball, work the ball.
“We try and tell our kids – you can’t fall asleep because they will find a way to knock down a shot. It seemed like that’s what they were doing.”

Addison Howard was in some kind of groove. The Falcons’ senior was quite literally unstoppable, scoring a game-high 27 points in three quarters of action. Included in his 27 points were seven three-pointers.
In a preview of things to come, Howard scored eight points in the first quarter – which included a pair of three’s, and the Falcons led 21-11. He topped that in the second quarter, adding two more treys and 10 points to cap an 18-point first half that saw the Falcons open up a 46-23 lead over their visitors.
Before calling it a day, Howard buried three more three-pointers in the third quarter as the Falcons outscored the Indians 20-10.
