Non-league
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 45, JENKINTOWN 37
The Spartans bounced back from a disappointing two-point loss to Upper Moreland one day earlier to earn the non-league win. They trailed by two heading into the final quarter but closed out the game with a 19-9 frame. Jordan Pauls accounted for six of those points, including a perfect 6-for-6 effort at the foul line. DeJaun Waters was 4-for-5 at the line in the frame, and Wilson Krewson added six points, which included a 4-for-5 effort at the charity stripe.
“After coming off a tough loss to Upper Moreland, we were looking to redeem ourselves,” coach Chris Cole said. “The guys played well in the first half and went into halftime with an 18-13 lead.
“Once the third quarter started, we stopped doing all of the things that we did in the first half and allowed Jenkintown to get back into the game. Luckily in the fourth, Jordan (Pauls) and Wilson (Krewson) were aggressive enough to attack the rim, which led to several foul calls, and they were able to knock down clutch free throws.”
In the opening half that saw the Spartans open up a five-point halftime lead, Krewson had seven points and Jay Joseph had six.
For the game, Krewson’s 13 points led the Spartans. Pauls added 11, and Joseph had six.
“The coaching staff is trying to get the team to understand the importance of being consistent and not only winning the game but dominating all four quarters,” Cole said.
