PANTHER TIPOFF CLASSIC
Cheltenham 58, Frankford 37
Patrick Fleury joined rarified air in Cheltenham coaching history, as he picked up the 100th win of his career in the first game of his sixth year as Panthers’ coach.
Fleury, Scott Eveslage and Paul Westhead are the only three Cheltenham boys coaches to reach the 100-win milestone.
“I’m blessed and humbled to join them,” Fleury said. “Paul Westhead has an WNBA and NBA championship, so hopefully, one day I can compare my resume to his. It probably won’t happen, but it’s just good to be in their company. They’re amazing individuals.”
In attendance Friday were Fleury’s coaches during his playing days at Cheltenham – Eveslage, Scott Weinstein and Brendan Nolan.
“It was very, very special, and I’m forever indebted to them,” he said. “I wasn’t able to get Dr. (Wagner) Marseille and Dr. (Tamara) Smith, who were the admins who hired me six years, but they sent me messages. I love them dearly, and I’m just forever grateful to all those people who believed in me.
“Obviously, we have a new admin here – Dr. Brian Scriven (superintendent) along with Dr. Smith (assistant superintendent) – and I just hope as my career goes on I’m able to stay with especially Dr. Smith as long as possible because her mentorship and unwavering love is the reason that any of this is possible. I hope our community understands how important she’s been and will continue to be for us.”
Josiah Hutson scored 16 points, as the Panthers scored 22 points in the third quarter to blow this one wide open, turning a 31-21 lead into a 53-26 advantage. Hutson added two assists and three steals.
Freshman Kamal Mason added 12 points in what was a balanced scoring effort. He also added three assists and two steals.
“Osei Johnson was very solid for us and was a big presence for us in the interior and hit a three for us,,” Fleury said. “It was a collective effort. We’re just trying to get our footing for the year. We have a long way to go.”

9th ANNUAL JIM CHURCH CLASSIC
Souderton 69, Lansdale Catholic 48
Chanse Salone hit four 3-pointers, three in a big third quarter for Souderton, which pulled away for the solid 21-point win over visiting Lansdale Catholic in an opening round game of the Jim Church Classic on Friday night.
Bill Sackor added 21 for the Indians, including 7-for-8 from the free throw line and 12 points in the second half. A year ago, Sackor suffered a knee injury in the season-opener against LC and ended up missing the rest of the season.
“It was really nice to see Bill come back from injury in his first time playing in a varsity game in a year,” said Indians coach Okoteh Sackitey. “And to see him come back against the same team, stay healthy and have 21 points, is a beautiful ting. I’m so happy for him coming off an injury. He’s a good kid. I hate to see injuries anytime, and it was great to see him back and playing well tonight.
“And Chanse Salone, that was a great way to start off his sophomore year. He’s growing and maturing, and he’s playing in a really mature way for us too. That’s a great 1-2 punch for us to have at the guard position.”
Nolan Watkins added 12 points.
“Nolan Watkins at the other guard position had a really big first half for us,” Sackitey said. “He had 10 points in the first half, and we got a lot of guys that can contribute in a lot of different ways. Danny Dyches had a lot of rebounds. I don’t have the exact totals, but Danny was a beast on the boards.
“Clinton Kikonjo played his role really well, and it was just a great team win all around.”
Next up for Souderton is a 4 p.m. title game Saturday against Upper Dublin, while LC slips into the consolation game against Dock Mennonite.
“That will be a good test for us,” Sackitey said. “We’re excited for the challenge. That’s a really good team. We’re going to have to play at our best if we want to win.”

Central Bucks East 79, William Tennent 73
Senior guard Jacob Cummiskey scored 29 points, and Dhruv Mukund had a huge fourth quarter as the Patriots rallied in the fourth quarter to get past William Tennent in the opener at the Pennridge Memorial Tournament.
“We are happy to start off the year with a win,” said CB East coach Erik Henrysen. “Tonight was probably a really fun game to watch as a spectator. The game was back and forth. Down the stretch we made a few more plays to get us to the finish line.”
Cummiskey finished with 29 points, eight rebounds and four assists for East, which trailed 57-52 after three quarters. Mukund scored seven points and finished with seven rebounds, with all seven of his points coming in the fourth.
“Cummiskey had a monster night,” Henrysen said. “He did it all and battled with (Tennent’s Kirby Mooney, his AAU teammate). It was fun to watch.
“Mukund got into foul trouble early but came up huge in the fourth.”
Justin DiRoberto had 12 points, while Bryce Lolas and Tyler Dandrea had 11 points each. Dandrea had seven rebounds as well, while Nolan Behm finished with nine points and five boards.
Kirby Mooney led the way for the Panthers with 31 points. Chris D’Ambra added 26 points, while Imad Abunima added 10.
“Tennent is a tough team to stop,” Henrysen said. “Kirby Mooney is one of the best players we will see all year and he didn’t disappoint tonight. D’Ambra had a night as well. They are a special duo.”
Both teams will be back in action Saturday at Pennridge. CB East plays Quakertown at 3:30, while Tennent takes on host Pennridge at 6:30 p.m.

Senior Miles Longacre had quite the night for the Panthers, scoring 40 points, including four 3-pointers, as Quakertown took over the game in the second quarter and didn’t look back on the way to the win over its archrival.
Longacre scored 25 of his points in the first half, spearheading a 22-8 second quarter for the Panthers. He also finished with five rebounds.
“Miles was incredible,” coach Tony DaCosta said. “He is always aggressive on the offensive end of the floor, but what made him so impressive last night was his patience, discipline, and his control. Miles played at his speed all evening, plus he shot the three-ball at a high rate.
“When he has it going like that, he is difficult to stop, and that was evident throughout the game. There is absolutely no question he is a talented scorer, and in some cases, he makes it look so effortless but that is his gift. The team draws off that type of confidence, which is motivating to the rest of team and allows us to play at a higher level, and when a player has it going like that, you just feed the beast.”
Kyle Rosenberger finished with 10 points and four assists.
Xavier Peters was the lone Ram in double figures with 24 points.
