SOL Patriot Division
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 53, PENNSBURY 34
The Golden Hawks opened up a 16-8 lead after one quarter and took a 24-14 lead into halftime on their way to their third win in four league games to open the season. The Hawks had a good night from beyond the arc – burying 10 3-pointers. They had three in the opening quarter and two more in the second.
“The boys did a great job,” Rock South coach Andrew Rogers said. “We were able to get an early lead, and we were able to hold that.
“For us, it was two things – it started on the defensive end for us, and offensively, just making sure we were playing together.”
Timmy Rahill connected on a pair of 3s in the Golden Hawks’ 16-point first quarter, and Ryan Wekluk’s nine points, which included a 3, led the Hawks in the first half. Ryan Delp added six points on a pair of 3s in the opening half.
“Everybody is giving us a great lift when they’re in,” Rogers said. “Timmy Rahill started it off giving us two 3s in that first quarter. He ended up with 19 points, so he was huge for us. Sophomore Ryan Delp came in and gave us huge minutes again. He had a three in the first quarter as well.”
Delp finished with 12 points on four 3-pointers and also had six rebounds and two assists. Rahill had five 3s in his 19 points. Wekluk finished with nine points, five rebounds and two assists. Mike Burns added three assists and five rebounds.
“We had assists on a lot of our shots tonight, which was huge,” Rogers said. “It was just a lot of guys collectively locking in defensively and rebounding.
“I just thought we played together and played with a lot of energy tonight. Credit to our guys, they’re really just working hard, and we’re taking one game at a time. I feel if we can defend and bring that energy, we can put ourselves in a situation to be in a lot of games.”
The Falcons were led by the 14-point effort of Mike Roccograndi. Included in those 14 points were a pair of 3s. No other Falcon had more than five points.
“Our group is in a rut offensively right now as we navigate a difficult stretch in our schedule,” Pennsbury coach Wes Emme said. “We got off to a slow start, and South matched our energy any time we surged. Tonight was a great example of how valuable Danny Cohen (who did not play) is to our team.”
The Falcons’ coach tipped his hat to his opponent.
“I love how CR South is playing,” Emme said. “Andrew has those guys super connected as a group, and Tim Rahill is playing as good as any player in the league right now.”
Council Rock South (4-2, 3-1 SOL) will travel to Harry S Truman on Tuesday, and Pennsbury (4-2, 2-2) will face Abington in a non-league contest at Harriton on Saturday at 2 p.m.

With his team trailing by one and time winding down, Kenny Lutz converted a layup with 27 seconds remaining, propelling the Hatters to the hard-fought road win.
“The game was basically going back and forth,” Hatters’ coach Rick Fedele said. “Kenny Lutz scored attacking the basket with 27 seconds, and we just held our defense, held them off and secured the win.
“We needed this – we had a tough schedule back-to-back Abington and PW. We pulled this one out on the road and have a tough one tomorrow night at Quakertown.”
The Hatters, who led 9-8 after one quarter, took a 19-15 lead into halftime. They led by five (33-28) heading into the fourth quarter and then held off a tenacious Crusader rally.
Lutz had a big night for the Hatters, leading all scorers with 19 points. He scored 13 of those points in the second half. He also had three steals and two assists.
“Kenny Lutz was key – he had a solid game for us,” Fedele said.
Sean McCue and Ryan Smith both added six points. McCue also had four rebounds. Smith had three boards, four steals and three assists.
“Our two big men were real strong tonight,” Fedele said. “We’ve been struggling the past couple of games inside, and our two big guys – Sean McCue and Vaughn Craig – stepped up tonight and played well.”
