Non-league
HARRY S TRUMAN 77, FAITH CHRISTIAN 61
The Tigers – sparked by 13 points from Jaden Luchansky – raced out of the gate to a 23-16 lead after one quarter. By halftime, Luchansky had 20 points, and the Tigers led 40-30 on their way to the non-league road win.
“We came out strong,” Truman coach Randolph Jackson said. “Our motivating factor was that bus ride. Especially with this weather – it’s foggy out there. We just wanted to come out have a good warm-up and come out strong from that hour long bus ride, so that was our motivating factor.
“Coming back (home) from those bus rides after a loss – it’s not that much fun in a bus. That’s what I basically told the kids – ‘It’s a business trip,’ and they did a good job handling business, coming out strong, forcing Faith Christian into several turnovers and just getting out in transition. It was a much-needed win for us heading into South tomorrow.”
Player of the game: Jaden Luchansky (24 points, 3 assists)
Unsung hero: Julian Rodgers came up big on the defensive end and finished with 10 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists and six points.”
Harry S Truman coach Randolph Jackson on the win: “It’s big for the program. Especially from where we were for the past couple of years with one or two wins.
“This year, we have a lot of guys who are three-year varsity players, and we had a great offseason. It just shows that from us buying into the offseason is translating into now us playing competitive basketball. A lot more importantly, it’s important for us to show the offseason has paid off this year so far. I’m very proud of the boys and their effort.
“We did a great job controlling the tempo and playing our game, allowing our defense to be our offense. It was a great team win.”
