Pennridge Memorial Tournament
Central Bucks East 86, William Tennent 73
Jacob Cummiskey scored 24 points, going 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help salt away CB East’s opening win in the Pennridge Tournament.
Cummiskey also had six rebounds for the Patriots. Tyler Dandrea had 18 points, Dhruv Mukund 12 and Kyle Berndt 11. Berndt also added eight rebounds and eight assists, while Mukund pulled down six boards.
“Jake Cummiskey did a job for us at the free throw line down the stretch,” said Patriots coach Erik Henrysen. “As a team we were able to put the game away from the line in the fourth, making 16 of 18.
“Winning the opener is important. We have a quick turnaround (Saturday) and need to be ready.”
For Tennent, Kirby Mooney had 27 points and George Marion added 19.
“Tennent really came storming back after we built a 20-point lead in the second half,” Henrysen said. “We settled for quick shots that led to Tennent run-outs. We lost a bit of confidence. Marion and Mooney are really tough.
“Tennent pulled all the way back to within 2, when (Justin) DiRoberto hit a huge corner ‘3’ that got us back on track.”
The teams combined for 20 3-pointers, led by Tennnet’s Evan Devor with four. Seven different East players hit from 3-point range.
The teams return to Pennridge Saturday, with East playing Quakertown at 3:30 p.m.

Pennridge 59, Quakertown 52
Pennridge came out of the blocks slowly, but eventually turned it on as Matt Campione scored 17 points and Ryan Haas added 16, as the Rams pulled away from their archrivals late in the fourth quarter.
“It was a physical game,” said Pennridge coach Dean Behrens. ‘I think Quakertown got at us early. We were down 5-0 before we could blink. There was a good crowd there, good energy. Once we caught a bucket and we settled in.”
It was still close into the fourth, and with four minutes remaining, it was just a two-point game.
“We extended it,” Behrens said. “They fouled a lot and we got in the bonus early. And in the second half, we started hitting our foul shots. We got up nine or 10 and then it was a foul shooting contest to end the game.”
As a team, the Rams were 18-for-27 from the free throw line. Campione was 5-for-5 and Xavier Peters, who was also in double figures with 11 points, finished 7-for-8 from the line.
Quakertown was led by Miles Longacre, who had 21 points, and Sam Wilkin, who had 15.
“It was a great way to start the season in regards to our rivalry,” Behrens said. “I think Quakertown is a very good team. I feel fortunate coming out there with a win.”

Bruce Hall Panther Tipoff Classic
Cheltenham 58, Frankford 52
Sophomore point guard Josiah Hutson scored 30 points in an impressive debut – 26 in the second half – with six 3-pointers, six rebounds and six assists, as Cheltenham put away Frankford in the fourth quarter for a six-point victory.
“Josiah has taken on the point guard challenge at our school from Zahree Harrison to Saleem Payne and Justin Moore, point guards that we’ve had,” said Panthers coach Patrick Fleury. “He’s taken the challenge on of leading and being consistent. He obviously has a whole lot of growth that he’s going to continue to go through, but he definitely has a good feel for the game.
“It was nice to see. I think his teammates also were a lot of the reason because they were in the right spots and allowed him to make decisions quickly. It’s a testament to him, but also his teammates. Their ability to get him open and their ability to make the right play is beneficial.
“Tonight it’s him, but it could very easily be Kamani (Healey) or Malik (Hughes) or one of the other guys.”
After Frankford battled back with an 18-point second quarter to make it a 24-23 game at halftime, Cheltenham and Hutson had a big third quarter to retake control.
Healey had 11 points, five rebound and two assists. Ryakeen Respes had seven points, five rebounds and two assists, while Xavier Thompson had four points and seven rebounds.
“We had a slew of guys do a lot of different things and filled up the stat sheet,” Fleury said. “For us, it’s the totality of everything, and that’s what we try to preach, and that’s the community that we come from. Everybody is hardworking and trying to get everything they can get out of their abilities. I think this team embodies that. Osei Johnson came in tonight. He didn’t have any points, but he played with great pace. He had three assists and four rebounds and played great defensively. It was more than just Josiah’s 30 points tonight.
“It was good to see the guys come together and find joy in somebody’s success. We’re a young team, no excuse. They have to continue to fight and play hard, which they do. Win, lose or draw we do it together.”
Cheltenham will play Executive Charter on Saturday (7 p.m.) in the championship game of the tournament.

Nonleague
Bensalem 52, Abington 37
Junior Antonio Morris scored a game-high 22 points, as young Bensalem went on the road and knocked off Abington on Friday.
“It was an awesome game,” Bensalem coach Ron Morris said. “Early on, we weren’t shooting well, but I think it was just nerves. We don’t have a lot of experience coming back, so I think early on, we were nervous, but our defense kept us in the game.
“I’ve been coaching at Bensalem a long time, and I don’t remember the last time we won at Abington, so it’s always good to go there and get a win.”
The Owls have just two seniors on this squad and lost a significant chunk of their SOL Patriot Division championship team from a year ago. The Owls trailed 12-7 after one quarter, but Friday’s game was tied at 22 at the half.
“We came out in the second half and just poured it on,” Morris said. “We held them to 15 second-half points.
“Antonio (Morris) carried us offensively. He was getting to the hole, he had nice moves, and he hit a 3-pointer. As a proud coach and a proud dad, it was awesome to see him have success because he’s put a lot, a lot of time in this offseason.”
Bensalem went on to outscore Abington 20-8 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the victory.
Amir Drummond added 10 points, while Jack Wineburg added seven.
“Jack Wineburg played an awesome all-around game,” Morris said. “He had a big three. Noah (Morris) played awesome defensively and had a big three.
“Our new point guard comes off the bench, Amir Drummond, and he played amazing in the first half. He came in and sparked us, had a lot of energy, got some steals, he was able to get out in transition. That helped us.
“Micah White is one of the guys that has no varsity experience, and he’s just all over the place. He defends, he rebounds, and he’s always finding his way to the ball. We’re not big at all, and he’s our biggest kid. We’re small and real feisty. Micah played awesome defensively and rebounding.
“Eric Gonzalez had a tough game shooting, but what I was most proud about was he didn’t let it affect the rest of his game. He did some really good things on the court. It was truly a team victory, and it’s always good to start out 1-0.”
Abington was led by Jeremiah Lee, who scored nine points. Overall, the Ghosts shot just 26 percent from the field (12-for-46) and 17.6 percent from 3-point range (3-for-17).
Bensalem (1-0) is off until Tuesday when it plays at Holy Ghost Prep in its final nonleague test before the start of the SOL season.
