Non-league
CHELTENHAM 65, CHESTER 47
Cheltenham opened its season against a pair of perennial powers.
After dropping their opener to Imhotep, the Panthers rebounded to notch an impressive win over the visiting Clippers. They led 12-8 after one quarter and then – sparked by nine points from Jaedn Mosley – erupted for 23 points in the second quarter and took a 35-24 lead into halftime. Mosley led the Panthers with 11 first-half points while Chris Harmon had seven.
Cheltenham added to its lead in the third quarter and took a 51-34 lead into the final quarter on their way to the big win.
The senior trio of Mosley, Mark Hill and Chris Harmon combined for 41 points.
Key players: Mark Hill (15 points), Jaedn Mosley (14 points) and Chris Harmon (12 points) led the way for the Panthers.
Cheltenham coach Patrick Fleury:
–On the win: “We’re not where we need to be, but they played hard. We played Imhotep first, so we were prepared. Our biggest thing is remembering how special it is to play and stay with the kids that you spent your early years with. I think this group, for the most part, has tried to stay together. We’re senior-heavy right now. Seeing these kid go through the whole journey is just a beautiful thing.
“(Allowing) 47 points for a team like Chester is definitely something to hang your hat on. We just have to emphasize continuing to share the ball, play quick without rushing and just get the best shot and always close possessions out. I believe for the first two games – it’s a good start.
“Obviously, Imhotep was a very good team, and to start with them and just move through the season – I think that will benefit us. Hopefully, we’ll see them in the state playoffs if we’re fortunate enough to get there. It’s part of the journey, and we’re just accepting where we are right now.”
Up next: Cheltenham will host Lower Moreland in Tuesday’s SOL opener.

HARRY S TRUMAN 66, OWEN J ROBERTS 54
Last year, the Tigers didn’t win their second game until their fifth game of the season. This year, they needed just two. On Thursday, the Tigers took the long road trip to Pottstown and picked up their second win in as many games.
The Tigers raced out of the gate to a 24-11 lead after one quarter and took a 46-31 lead into halftime. Senior Jaden Luchansky’s 10 points sparked the Tigers in the half.
Key players: Jaden Luchansky’s 19 points led the Tigers, who also received a 13-point effort from junior Adul Diallo while senior Davae Vaughn added 10 points.
Harry S Truman assistant coach Mike Rongione:
–On the game: “We’re really proud of our kids’ effort, energy, and discipline tonight. We really challenged them yesterday in practice. We have known all offseason since the schedule came out that this game was a big early road test.
“OJR was a playoff team a year ago and return a bunch of guys. Their coach, Ben Condello, really has that program on the rise. We still have a ways to go, but our seniors have really carried us thus far.”
–Props: “Can’t say enough good things about Davae Vaughn, Jaden Luchansky, Dyson Brown, Juliun Rogers, Julian Adams, and Zy Dixon. They have been through the wringer here, and to get off to a nice start means a lot to them and our program. Adul Diallo, Terrell Edwards, and Sean Parker have been huge contributors for us as well. They don’t play or act like underclassmen. We know the challenges and ghosts that await us in league play. We again still have ways to go and so much to improve on. But tonight was a great start.”
Up next: Harry S Truman (2-0) will host Norristown in a non-league game Saturday (1pm).
