SOL Colonial Division
North Penn 64, Central Bucks East 57
Technically, the district playoffs start next week. But North Penn, which started the week on the outside looking in on the District One Class 6A Tournament bubble, knew it needed to win both of its games if it wanted a chance to continue its season.
Tuesday, the Knights went on the road and knocked off first-place CB East in the SOL finale for both teams.
“It was never actually said (by the coaches),” said North Penn coach John Conrad. “But we heard them talking about it amongst themselves. If we didn’t win, we’d have no chance to get it. But we still have to win Thursday if we hope to get in.”
Before they could worry about Thursday’s nonleague game with Faith Christian, a road game at CB East promised to be a huge challenge, and it was.
But North Penn started quickly with Ahmaar Godhania, Norm Gee and Tre Simpson combining for 23 points in the first quarter.
“All the credit goes to the kids,” Conrad said. “They really played well tonight, and it was a good time for it.
“We traded baskets with (CB East) the whole first quarter. They were able to score, and we’d come back and score. In the second quarter, we were able to get some stops, and that was a little bit of a difference tonight.”
Godhania and Simpson each had 18 points, while Gee had 15. Lee Hammond added seven and also did the job on the defensive end.
“Norm Gee did a great job controlling the game,” Conrad said. “He’d get in the lane and dump it off to Tre for the easy basket. He was able to control the game tonight on offense.
“Lee Hammond did a great job on (CB East standout Jake) Cummiskey. He scored a lot of points, but Lee made him work tonight.”
Cummiskey had 27 for CB East, while Miles Demby added nine.
North Penn (11-10, 9-6 SOL), which unofficially sits at No. 23 after Tuesday’s win, will travel to Faith Christian Academy Thursday.
Central Bucks East (17-5, 13-3 SOL), which started the night in the No. 7 spot in the district rankings, will host a game on Friday in the opening round of the SOLTournament.

Souderton 49, Central Bucks West 45 (OT)
It was Senior Night at Souderton, and the seniors came up big, as the Indians pulled off the huge upset over CB West in overtime on Tuesday.
“We all just wanted to win it for the seniors,” said coach Okoteh Sakitay. “That was the biggest thing. We love our seniors. Clinton (Kikonjo), Danny (Dyches) and Bill (Sackor) have worked so hard, and they deserve it.
“At the same time, we knew it would be a battle, we knew it would be a fight against a well-coached team that always plays hard. CB West is a great team, so we knew we’d have to earn it. It was a battle. We just kept going, and we were fortunate to come out on the winning side of this one. I’m just really happy that our seniors got the win. That’s what it’s all about tonight.”
Bill Sackor scored 15 of his game-high 20 points after halftime. He finished 7-for-9 from the free throw line.
Nolan Watkins had 11 in the second half, including 4-for-4 from the free throw line in overtime.
“Bill had a good night,” Sackitey said. “That 20 points was huge. He’s such a gifted scorer, that’s something he’s done all year for us. He scores the ball really well. He had a big 3 in the first quarter, he made big free throws down the stretch, he handled the ball down the stretch and finished at the rim down the stretch. He’s playing really well.
“Nolan Watkins has been really steady for us as well. He’s known as a shooter, but he’s really been doing a nice job of putting the ball on the floor, hitting floaters, finishing layups, handling and taking care of the ball. He knocked down some key free throws down the stretch. He was 4-for-4 in overtime, and that was huge for us. It was a good team win.”
Souderton was up two with 30 seconds left, but CB West tied it with 15 seconds left. Souderton had the last shot in regulation but couldn’t convert. But in overtime, the Indians took care of business on the free throw line and defensively.
“We tried to give them 2s not 3s,” Sackitey said. “(Julian Phillips) is a very good player and a very good shooter. That was a priority, making sure he didn’t get hot from 3. We got enough stops when we needed them. We had some big rebounds.
“Chanse Salone had a really big steal in overtime. We were up two or three, Chanse steals the ball at half court, passes to Nolan (Watkins). He attacks the rim, gets fouled and knocks down two free throws and puts us up five.
“We got it done on defense, and that was a team effort. Danny (Dyches) had a big bucket in overtime. He shows up all game. Literally, every single, solitary play if you watch film. He had two buckets in the fourth quarter and overtime, and they came at opportune times for us.
“Clinton’s big 3s in the second quarter kept us in it, so that was big from him when we needed it.”
CB West, which led 24-17 at halftime, went cold in the second half. It had just two field goals in overtime. Phillips led the Bucks with 16 points.
Souderton (10-11, 8-7 SOL), still looks to be outside of the district playoff bubble, at No. 27 unofficially after Tuesday’s win. It will host Council Rock North Thursday in a crossover game.
Central Bucks West (16-6, 10-6 SOL) will return to action Friday in the SOL Tournament.

Pennridge 67, Central Bucks South 59
It has been a tough season for Pennridge, with a lot of varsity inexperience on the roster to start the season and then a rash of injuries throughout. Tuesday, the Rams picked up a well-deserved win at CB South.
“I’m really happy for the guys,” said Pennridge coach Dean Behrens. “I don’t need to win games. I’m almost 55. But I know it was wearing on them. Give them credit. If we had packed it in, we were going to lose by a lot. We never got mercy ruled this year.”
Charlie Rising had a huge second half for the Rams. He led his team with 24 points, 17 of which came in the final two quarters. He also went 7-for-10 from the free throw line.
“It was an offensive explosion,” Behrens said. “There weren’t a lot of defensive stops. But they missed a couple of shots, and we rebounded pretty well in the fourth quarter. We held on.
“We’re still trying to preach – be a great teammate, play hard, be a great student, be a good person on and off the court, good body language at all times. We’ve been trying to fight that a little bit.”
Xavier Peters, who has been battling a knee injury most of the second half of the season, scored 12 points in a 27-point second quarter for the Rams. He finished with 23 for the game.
“All of a sudden, Xavier went back to being Xavier,” Behrens said. “He’s had that meniscus issue, but he’s moving the way Xavier is used to moving.”
CB South was led by Ben Harrison with 20 points.
Pennridge (4-17, 3-12 SOL) will close out its season with a crossover game at home against Bensalem on Wednesday.
Central Bucks South (6-15, 4-11 SOL) will host Council Rock South Thursday for a crossover game.

Neshaminy 56, Bensalem 47
Neshaminy ended its regular season playing its best basketball, as Tuesday’s win over first place Bensalem was its fifth straight.
“It was a good game, back and forth, a tight game all the way through, and we extended it late in the third into the fourth,” said coach Mark Tingle.
An 8-0 run by Bensalem to start the second half gave the Owls a 29-22 lead, but Neshaminy bounced back and ended up scoring 19 in the quarter.
“We weren’t rebounding well,” Tingle said. “They did a good job of offensive rebounding – I called a timeout to catch our breath. We always tell our guys, ‘Every game is a game of runs, and that was theirs. Let’s get ours, and we did.’
“We went on a 10-0 run to jump back up 32-29, and we didn’t look back.”
Senior Nate Townsend finished with a game-high 19 points. He also had eight rebounds and four assists.
Emeer Coombs had 13 points and five assists, Guy Horton added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Logan Gale eight points.
“Nate and Emeer are always our two guys that lead us in scoring and rebounding,” Tingle said. “Guy Horton had a nice 10 and did a really nice job covering Antonio Morris.”
It wasn’t always pretty from the free throw line for Neshaminy, which went 10-for-23 for the game, and 6-for-16 in the fourth quarter.
Noah Morris led Bensalem – which was once again without Jaidyn Moffitt – with 11 points.
“It was a great battle tonight,” Bensalem coach Ron Morris said. “I need to do a better job preparing the guys when we are missing a player as it can’t be an excuse. As always, we wake up tomorrow and be ready for a war at Pennridge. We have to keep working hard and stay positive because no one will feel bad for us. We know we get everyone’s best game as we are worth a lot of points.”
Bensalem (17-4, 13-2 SOL) will travel to Pennridge for a crossover game on Wednesday to close the regular season, before hosting an SOL quarterfinal on Friday.
Neshaminy (15-7, 11-5 SOL), which started No. 20 in the District One Class 6A power rankings prior to the game, will likely play an SOL Tournament quarterfinal on Friday.

Pennsbury 42, Council Rock North 23
The last time these two teams played, CR North shocked Pennsbury with a late put-back bucket to win the game. Tuesday, the Falcons weren’t about to let that happen and combined an aggressive offensive effort and stifling defense to pound the Indians.
“They got us,” said Falcons coach Wes Emme. “We hit a couple tailspins during the course of the season. First time around against those guys, we jumped out to an early lead, but they hung around and fought and made big plays. We didn’t adjust and I don’t think I coached very well either.
“We’ve been playing much better the last two weeks. We’ve had a much more aggressive approach to offense, and this was one our finer offensive games of the year.”
Mike Roccograndi scored 14 points to lead Pennsbury, with 12 of those points coming in the second half. Connor Taddei added eight points.
“Connor Taddei, maybe it was not his best game scoring, but it was with the way he was affecting the game, making winning plays,” Emme said. “He made a couple loose ball plays that sped them up.
“We always say that the game rewards toughness. Just make tough plays consistently and you’ll get rewarded eventually. Connor was exceptionally tough tonight.
“Simon Dlugi also played great. It was one of his best performances of the year. I think he remembered the first game when (CR North) won on a putback. He did a much better job protecting the rim and also rebounding.”
Grady Burt scored 15 of CR North’s 23 points. The Indians trailed 18-15 at halftime and 30-23 after three, but were shutout in the decisive fourth quarter.
Pennsbury, seeded No. 21 in the district power rankings prior to the game, closed out its regular season with a 11-11 record (8-8 SOL).
CR North (7-13, 4-11 SOL) has two games remaining this week, including Thursday at Souderton and a nonleague home game with Episcopal Academy on Saturday.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 64, Wissahickon 54
The last time these two teams played, Wissahickon pulled off its biggest win of the season. Tuesday, PW earned a bit of revenge and closed out the regular season portion of its schedule with a win on Senior Night.
“Senior Night – it was a great crowd,” said Colonials coach Jim Donofrio. “The students came out and filled half of the long side of the bleachers, and all the rest were filled too. It was really a nice crowd, and Wissahickon/PW is going to be a neighborhood rivalry.
“Everybody is different the second time around. We’re trying to get our guys in the right mindset of respecting that opponent. We just relax a lot sometimes. I thought at Upper Dublin, ironically, we didn’t believe in ourselves enough. It’s trying to stay really positive, there’s a lot of youth on the floor for us.
“Tonight, we had a nice energy about us. We got the lead to 14, 16, 18, and then the lead’s 11 again. A lot of it is self-inflicted, but we’re resilient.”
Senior Jaden Colzie scored 20 to lead PW, while Mani Sajid had 14 and Michael Pereira 10 points.
“Mani (Sajid) is the young guy, he’s a sophomore,” Donofrio said. “He puts pressure on himself, and a bad night for Mani is 14, 16 points. He’s very talented.
“Michael (Pereira), our big guy, is coming along. He started tonight because our senior, Josh Harris, is hurt with a knee. Michael gives you 6-7 size. He’s got to go through the growing pains as well.
“Jaden Colzie is trying to share the ball and move the offense, and at the same time, you have a lot of guys out there that really have never been big time scorers. He’s had a great year of putting the ball in the basket. He did it again tonight. He knows I don’t love it from the point guard spot because when
you go against teams in the playoffs, it’s very hard for one guy to win games in basketball. That’s taking nothing away from him because he’s dropping 20 a night easily, so good for him, and thank god he can put it in the basket like he can.”
The Colonials took a 34-20 lead into halftime and led the rest of the way.
“We need this (win),” Donofrio said. “Everyone thinks we should be 20-2, but we do a whole lot of would have, could have, should have, and would have, could have, should have means you’re rebuilding.
“There’s a reason there’s a whole lot of teams in the NBA at .500. They take a whole season to figure it out, and they still don’t. That’s called experience. Right now, I’m hoping we catch some next-level confidence. We certainly paid our dues with tough losses.”
Dom Vacchiano led Wissahickon with 21 points. Brayden Ryan had nine, and Josh Paulits had eight.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (14-8, 12-4 SOL) will return to action Friday in the SOL Tournament.
“You kind of need this tournament because you have that delay (until the start of districts),” Donofrio said. “That’s a long break, and we’re too young to have a long break.”
Wissahickon (8-13, 7-8) will close its season at Springfield Twp for a crossover game Friday.

Brady Fogle scored seven points in the first quarter to get Upper Dublin out to a strong start, and the Flying Cardinals never looked back on the way to a big Liberty Division win on Tuesday night.
Ryan Mulroy led UD with 15 for the game, all of which came in the second and third quarters. Anthony Oliveira-Schultz added eight points.
Shane Phillips scored 13 points for H-H.
“I can see why they’re number one,” said Hatters coach Josh Meyer. “I worked in Upper Dublin for the last 18 years, so I knew a lot of guys over there. (Derek Brooks) has done a great job between the defensive pressure they bring and the way they can light the scoreboard up.
“I said to the guys, between last night and tonight, we played some really good teams. For three quarters, we were hanging. It was 40-28, and we were only down 12 going into the fourth quarter, and last night was similar, we were down 13 going into the fourth quarter. The growth from the experience and the will and the fight was still there. This is a great group of guys. They come to work. The integrity and the character they have beyond the game itself is what really impresses me, and I’ve seen the growth in them as young men, which has really been an awesome thing to watch.”
