The Indians raced out of the gate to a 6-1 lead after one quarter and took a 6-2 advantage into halftime. They led by five heading into the final quarter and then held off a late charge by the Golden Hawks, who scored three of their six goals in the final frame.
“We have to learn how to close out games,” CR North coach John Fitzpatrick said.
Andrew Zazoff, Nick Colavito and Sam Lewis each had a pair of goals in the Indians’ first quarter scoring surge.
Keeping the Golden Hawks in the game was the 19-save effort of goalie Billy Houser – he had 11 of those saves in a brilliant first half.
Zazoff’s three-goal effort led the Indians. He also had a team-high five ground balls. Lewis finished the game with two goals and one assist, and Liam Dudley had both of Rock South’s second-half goals.

SOUDERTON 8, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 6
The Indians pulled off a monster win for their program, notching a road victory over a Patriot squad that had not lost in league play. It is Souderton’s first win over East in recent memory, the first in coach Craig Hunsberger’s six years with the program.
“It was a heck of a win for us,” the Indians’ coach said. “For us, it was just executing the game plan and following through with it. We have been really close in all of our losses this year. We were right there, a couple bounces away.
“It always helps when you jump on them early and get a quick goal and then continue to build on that lead. It was back and forth in the first quarter – it was 3-2. Going into the second quarter, we put one in, and we continued to build that lead going into halftime. There was a lot of great play all over the field, but Seth Grossman was one of our main drivers.”
Grossman stole the spotlight offensively with his five-goal, one-assist effort, but that was just the beginning.
“He played offense, he played defense – he did everything,” said Hunsberger, whose team took a 6-3 lead into halftime. “He was having an out-of-body experience.”
Matt Malanga turned turned away 19 shots in a stellar outing between the pipes, and the Indians’ goalie along with the defensive unit comprised of Troy Martin, Max Ryon and Ryan Rothenberger also excelled.
“Matt made 19 saves, but the defense did a really good job,” Hunsberger said. “Our defenders had caused turnovers, they had ground balls. East is always a great team, so we just really needed a complete game from everyone, and we got that today.”
Another key was the performance at the faceoff X of Peyton Bannak, who won 11 of 18 faceoffs.
Also contributing to the scoring for the Indians were Ty Quintois and John Martin-Vince with one goal and one assist each. Sean Landis added one goal while Tyson Bui had two assists. Martin also had one assist as well as three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Ryon had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

WISSAHICKON 7, UPPER DUBLIN 3
This was the date both teams undoubtedly had circled on their calendars, and the showdown between the neighboring rivals – both undefeated in league play – did not disappoint. The Trojans led by just one goal heading into the final quarter when they erupted for three goals to earn the
hard-fought win.
“This was definitely our toughest test so far,” Wissahickon coach Matt Conway said. “They came out fired up and ready to play. We did too, but I think we were collectively a little too amped up early on, and it worked against us, especially offensively.”
Kyle Lehman’s four-goal, one-assist effort led the Trojans, and Nicholas Donofrio added two goals and an assist. Andrew Slackman contributed a goal and one assist.
The Trojans led 3-1 after one quarter but led by just one at halftime, 4-3. Neither team scored in a third quarter that featured stingy defense on both sides.
“I thought our defense was great all night, which allowed us time to settle in on offense,” Conway said. “Finally, we found our rhythm on offense in the fourth quarter, and we were able to close the game out.”
Comprising the Trojans’ defense that kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard the entire second half were Matthew Bauer, Sebastian Davis, Will Hussa, Matthew
Slovin, Dan Hussa, Logan Bruno and Gavin Myers.
Anchoring the defense in goal with five saves was Kyle Crump.
“The defense as a whole, including our goalie, shut them out in the second half, which is pretty good especially since they had some lengthy offensive possessions,” Conway said.
For UD, Will Hoffman scored one goal and was a force at the faceoff X, winning 11 of 14. Will Bailey scored two goals while Al Eby added an assist.
Nate Fechter recorded eight saves in goal for the Cardinals.
Wissahickon remains atop the District 1 3A power rankings while Upper Dublin is 11th.
