National Conference
Pennridge 10, Souderton 9
Fourth-quarter rallies have been fairly common occurrences for Pennridge so far this season. But this one … this one was special. The Rams trailed National Conference rival Souderton 6-2 at halftime—having been held scoreless in the second quarter—and faced a 9-5 deficit heading into the final quarter before roaring back and outscoring Souderton 5-0 in the final frame to pull out the stunning comeback victory on Monday.
“They have a lot of fight in them,” coach JP Banks said. “Missing last year and it’s like that with all these programs, there’s a lot of inexperience, and we’re making some mistakes we shouldn’t be making earlier in the game, but when their backs are against the wall, they’re making plays on the offensive end, making plays on the defensive end. It was really them getting all together and saying they were going to keep fighting.”
After trailing by four at halftime, the Rams pulled to within one, 6-5.
“We made a bonehead play and gave them a man up, and they went 7-5, 8-5, 9-5 to end the third quarter,” Banks said. “In the fourth quarter, it took a little while to get going even then, but they’re persevering and sticking with what we do and realizing we had opportunities and we had looks and you don’t need to panic. You can take a little bit of time. Twelve minutes of stopped time is a lot longer than people think.”
It was Ryan Carickhoff turning a Frankie Fanelli pass into a goal that turned out to be the game winner with 1:03 remaining in regulation.
“They’re both freshman, but they’re in their ninth game of the season,” Banks said. “They’ve been playing and seeing a lot of different things. They really stepped up there.
“Our defense was real loose in what we were doing in the first half, and we started to tighten that up a little bit. In the end, it worked out for us.”
Carickhoff led the Rams with 5 goals and 2 assists. Chris Fanelli had 3 goals and 3 assists, Frankie Fanelli scored once and added 2 assists, and Tommy Hart chipped in with 1 goal for the rallying Rams.
Kieran Banks made 16 saves to earn the win in net for Pennridge, which improves to 3-2 National, 5-4 overall.
“He played well,” Banks said of his goalie. “I think the most important thing we did as a team and he was doing – I think our communication got better, and that makes a big difference.
“I thought our entire team rode really well tonight, and we created some offensive opportunities for ourselves by working hard. Our senior defenseman Connor Frisch did a great job causing turnovers in the middle of the field. It really was a group effort. The only way you’re going to come back from down four is a complete team effort, and that’s what we got in the fourth quarter.”
Jamison McDivitt led Souderton with 2 goals and 3 assists. John Martin Vince had 2 goals and 2 assists, Kobi Bui scored twice, Ty Quintos recorded 1 goal and 1 assist, and Justin Wawrzynek and Tyson Bui each added 1 goal.
Souderton falls to 2-4, 5-4, and is back in action hosting Council Rock South at 6:30 pm Friday. Pennridge looks to keep up its winning ways when it hosts North Penn at 7 pm Thursday.

Council Rock North 12, Central Bucks West 11, OT
Luke Walstrum capped off a 7-point day with an overtime goal to lift Council Rock North to a heartstopping 12-11 victory over Central Bucks West in Monday’s National Conference matchup.
“There was a penalty going into overtime, and with that penalty, there was no face-off, so we came out a man up, we ran a play, hit a defender, it dropped to the ground, and Luke Walstrum picked it up and put it in the goal,” North coach John Fitzpatrick said. “It was an awesome win. We made a lot of mistakes, and they were a good team.”
The Indians, who led 6-3 at halftime, were reeling after a third quarter that saw the Bucks go on a 7-1 tear to go on top 10-7 heading into the final frame.
“We came out a little bit flat, and they just gained momentum,” Fitzpatrick said. “We had a couple of failed clears, and they came back. They put seven on us in that quarter. We have to do a better job of that. You can’t give up that many goals and expect to win at the end.
“Going into the fourth, we started winning a little bit of face-offs, got momentum going. There was a couple of failed clears on their side, and we tied it up.”
It took some very late heroics to pull off the comeback as the Indians scored three goals in the final 1:38 of regulation to tie the game 11-11. It was Dean Scalamandre scoring the equalizer with 15 seconds remaining.
“They were trying to clear the ball, Luke picked off the pass that was going back to the goalie and fed Dean, who tied it up,” Fitzpatrick said.
Walstrum scored three goals, assisted on 4 others, and scooped up 4 ground balls on the afternoon in a stellar effort for the Indians. Scalamandre scored 4 goals and picked up 1 assist and 1 ground ball. Andrew Zazoff (2G, 2GB), Shane Bradley (2G, 1GB), Dylan Kavanagh (1G, 1A, 4GB), and Sammy Lewis (1A, 3GB) each contributed to the Council Rock North scoring as the Indians improve to 3-1 National, 7-1 overall.
“Luke Walstrum was just tremendous – he just turned it on in the fourth quarter and was making plays all over the field,” Fitzpatrick said. “He took a couple face-offs and started winning them. We didn’t win face-offs all game long, so that was definitely a change of momentum.
“A lot of the middies played well. Shane Bradley is a kid that does a little bit of everything, scores goal and runs the field. We matched him up against their best player, #22, and he did a fantastic job.”
For the Bucks, Austin Hahn led the way with 3 goals. Jeff Woosnam (2G, 1A), Connor Albrecht (2G, 1A), Brayden Albrecht (2G, 1A), Matt Jacobsen (1G, 2A), Dylan Van Saun (1G), and Landon Albrecht (3A) chipped in on offense. West keeper Evan Hee recorded 18 saves. Jacobsen won 10 of 15 faceoffs in the contest, while Cole Gnutti won 7 of 10 draws.
“They played tremendous,” Fitzpatrick said of the Bucks. “They were knocking down balls, their goalie was standing on his head. West’s face-off kid really dominated the game for the most part. I tip my hat to those guys. They played a really, really good game.”
West drops to 3-2, 4-5. The Bucks look to get back on the winning track when they take to the field in a 3:30 pm game Friday at archrival Central Bucks East. Council Rock North visits Harry S Truman at 3:30 pm Friday.
