SOL NATIONAL CONFERENCE
PENNSBURY 13, NORTH PENN 12 (OT)
Mike DeZutel’s overtime goal propelled the Falcons to the dramatic road win over the Knights.
“We won the faceoff in overtime, we had possession – we did not call a timeout,” Pennsbury coach Dean Curtis said. “I let our guys plays.
“We have a set that we run in that situation, and Mike DeZutel did a great job coming off a pick and finished it with a sweep across the middle. It was good to see the kids fight back.”
Kolby Ranniello turned in a monster 10-point effort to lead the Falcons, scoring seven goals and assisting on three others. Included in his big night was the 100th point of his career.
“Kolby is not only our point leader, but he’s also our emotional leader,” Curtis said. “He plays hard, and the guys respond really well to him in terms of his physical play. His leadership on the field is super important. He’s not a captain, but he’s definitely one of our senior leaders that everyone trusts and respects.”
For the better part of Tuesday’s game, the Falcons appeared to be in command. They took a 7-5 lead into halftime and led 11-8 heading into the fourth quarter when the Knights staged a rally, outscoring their visitors 4-1 to send the game to OT. North Penn scored the equalizer with less than two minutes remaining.
“We actually had possession with 15 seconds left, and they did a good job stopping us,” Curtis said. “North Penn scored first, and we came back and took the lead until they tied it at the end. These kids have played together for so long, and just having the opportunity to rally together…
“I give it to North Penn. They played a great fourth quarter. We had a three-point lead, we had the ball a lot, and they executed when they had to in order to get back in the game. I give them a lot of credit. Their young guy stepped up. Jayden Davenport is a freshman, and he played really well. Their main guys did what they had to do to come back.”
In addition to Rannniello, John Curtis had two goals and three assists. DeZutel finished with two goals and two assists and won one of two faceoffs. Brad Hill added a pair of goals and also was credited with 12 ground balls. Hill won 16 of 26 faceoffs.
“He won the faceoff going into overtime, and he also won the faceoff after they tied the game,” Curtis said of Hill.

For the Knights, Jayden Davenport’s four goals led the attack. Caiden Myers had a five-point game with three goals and two assists while Ryan Bocklett had three goals and one assist. Colin Ponyi added a goal and an assist, and Emerson Morrelli had one goal.
Also for the Knights, Joe Morrow won eight faceoffs, and Luigi Cardone won four.
Connor Howard had eight saves in goal for the Knights.
“I’ll give Rick and his team credit,” Curtis said. “If you look at their scores, you would have thought this should be an easy victory for Pennsbury, but it’s April and the kids who are freshmen are almost sophomores. I give them a ton of credit for learning from games early in the season and bringing all that and playing one of the best games they’ve played all season.”
