Sixteen Suburban One League boys soccer teams played league games Friday.
One team even clinched a league title.
The results and recaps are below.
SOL National
Council Rock South 3, Pennsbury 2
Council Rock South finally got one.
“We have come close in so many games,” Council Rock South coach Alan Nicholl said. “We just never got that bounce.”
It was less a bounce than a nice pass. Early in the second overtime, Mike Dawicki kicked the ball to Kevin Bowers. Bowers booted the ball past the keeper.
And the six-win, fourth-place Hawks upset the 12-win, second-place Falcons.
“It’s hard to say this is our biggest win of the year. The first one, in my opinion, is always the biggest. That gets you that first three points, which is always key,” Nicholl said. “But Pennsbury is great and this is such a tough league. We’ve been taking our lumps. The guys were excited to beat such a good team.”
The game was back and forth throughout.
CR South took a 1-0 lead on Jake DeMarino’s goal. Connor Sweeney assisted.
Pennsbury answered late in the first half. The Falcons took a 2-1 lead with 14 minutes left.
Nicholl moved a defender up to midfield to apply pressure. Nine minutes later, Tyler Teufel tied the game for South. Bowers assisted.
“It was a very evenly matched game possession wise,” Nicholl said. “Pennsbury had stretches where they controlled the play. And we did, too. We probably controlled it a little more.”
South is No. 36 in the District One Class 4A Power Rankings. Twenty-four teams make the playoffs.
“I’m not sure if we still have a shot or are playing spoiler,” Nicholl said. “We are just taking it one game at a time like we always do. We’ll give everyone our best shot. We’ve been playing well lately, especially against good teams in North Penn and Pennsbury. We’ll just try to keep that going.”
CR South (6-8-1, 3-6-1 SOL) plays Bensalem Tuesday at seven.
Pennsbury has lost three straight after starting 12-0. The Falcons (12-3, 7-3 SOL) take on Council Rock North Tuesday at 3:30.
Council Rock South 1-1-0-1 3
Pennsbury 1-1-0-0 2
Council Rock North 1, Neshaminy 0
Council Rock North clinched the 2016 SOL National title.
The Indians beat Neshaminy for the second time in 2016.
They have given the Redskins two of their three league losses.
Neshaminy and Pennsbury are 7-3 in league play. CR North improved to 10-1. Both teams have two league games left.
North last won the SOL National in 2012.
Jon Pugh penalty kicked the ball into the net in the eighth minute.
North keeper Anthony Caruso made six saves and earned his eighth shutout of 2016.
Neshaminy keeper Val Scarsellatto made eight saves.
CR North (13-1-1, 10-1 SOL) plays Central Bucks East Monday at seven. Neshaminy (12-4, 7-3 SOL) hosts Harry S. Truman Tuesday at seven.

SOL Continental
William Tennent 1, Central Bucks East 0
William Tennent’s Michael Albers scored in the 71st minute.
Panthers’ keeper Brendan Hanratty made six saves.
And Tennent pulled off maybe the biggest SOL Continental upset of 2016.
The Panthers (4-6-1, 3-6-1 SOL) are No. 30 in the district power rankings. This win can only help their cause. They have winnable league games against Pennridge (Tuesday) and Souderton (Thursday) next week. Then they play CR North next Saturday.
A 3-0 week would probably get the Panthers in. A 2-1 week would make them a hotly debated bubble team.
CB East is still one point ahead of North Penn for first place in the Continental. The Patriots are 8-2-1 in league play. The Knights are 8-2.
CB East is No. 9 in the power rankings. It is 1-1 since the latest version came out.
The Pats (9-4-2, 8-2-1 SOL) battle Coughlin Saturday at noon.
William Tennent 0-1 1
Central Bucks East 0-0 0
