SOL Patriot Division
Harry S. Truman 2, Neshaminy 1
On the final day of regular season play in the Patriot Division, Truman pulled off one of the shockers of the season, jumping up with two second half goals and hanging on for the upset of Neshaminy, which could have clinched a share of the division title with the win.
Trevin Heard and Chase Rago scored second-half goals for the Tigers.
“They were really excited,” said Truman coach Mike MCCool. “It was hard to calm them down for a while, but I don’t think they’ve won a Senior Night in over 10 years, so I let them go celebrate.”
Scoring Summary
Second Half –
Trevin Heard (HST) from Juan Ramirez
Chase Rago (HST)
Brian Birmingham (N) from Rezi Tebidze
Coach Mike McCool on the win:
“I think that belief built up over the course of this season. Last year, they started to believe in what we were teaching them and the strategy we wanted to start using, and to believe in their own ability and believe in their teammates. Last year, we actually beat Neshaminy 2-1, and it was their first league win in eight years.
“Neshaminy actually beat us 8-1 when we were at their turf (earlier this season), but despite still having those losses – our first game with North was something like 8-1 – even with those losses, they have seen the progress that they have been making. We’re scoring a lot more. We had three goals against Springfield, three against North. We were extremely close to beating Bensalem, came close to beating CR South in our first game against them. I think that belief has been building with smaller progress.
“We went into the second half 0-0. Being Senior Night, I started our second string goalie (Dylan Jimenez) because he’s a senior. And he played great. He had a diving save and played about 20 minutes and ended on a high note. I put in our starter, Eddie Krause, and made it to the second half 0-0.”
–The goals: “Trevin Heard scored the first goal. He’s a junior. He’s not left-footed, but he hit a left-foot shot; it was a beautiful shot, and it went right in with the assist from Juan Ramirez.
“A few minutes later. We got another quick goal, Chase Rago was able to tap it in. and we were sitting comfortably at 2-0 for a moment.
“My boys started – they can be excited or angry, but any amount of emotion can break them down a little bit. We started to play erratically. Neshaminy was in the 18, and one of my boys fouled him and they got a PK. My goal, Eddie Krause, had an amazing save, read the shooter’s step, dove and blocked it. But moments after that, Neshaminy had a really nice cross to a head goal, making it 2-1.
“From there, my boys, being who they are, ended up playing in our half most of the second half, making me nervous. Not only did we have a lead, but we had a little bit of luck as well. There were some shots that probably should have gone in for Neshaminy. They had a second PK, and their player just missed the PK. That doesn’t happen often.”
–Props: “There’s a lot of names that I could mention tonight. Eddie Krause was the MVP of the game with that PK save. Umut Akin, our other captain, he’s just consistently an amazing player. It’s not just his athleticism and footwork and raw skill, his IQ is through the roof for a high school player. He’s so smart on that field. He gets psychological. He gets in the minds of opposing players and reads what they’re trying to do. He’s a notch above most high school players.”
Neshaminy coach Tom Foley:
“It was one of those nights. We did everything right but put the ball in the net. They cashed in on two of our mistakes. Basically, they were their only two chances. We got one back with 10 minutes to go, and in that time, we missed two penalty kicks to tie it – their goalie made a nice save on one, and we blew it wide on another, we missed a ton of chances. We just couldn’t figure out how to get the ball in the net. We moved the ball well. They must have saved four or five balls off the line, so credit to them. It was tilted down at that end, but we couldn’t break through.
“Truman’s game plan was to keep us out of the goal, and they worked their tails off to do so. Kudos to them. We had our chances, but we didn’t take advantage. We’ll get back at it tomorrow, put it behind us and get ready for the playoffs.”
Next up: Truman (2-14, 1-9 SOL) closes the season Friday with a nonleague game at Norristown. Neshaminy has to settle for second in the Patriot Division. It also went into Wednesday No. 8 in the District One power rankings.
Neshaminy 0 1 – 1
Truman 0 2 – 2
Council Rock North 3, Pennsbury 2
The Indians clinched their third straight division title, and they won’t be sharing it, thanks to Truman’s upset of Neshaminy that prevented the Redskins from capturing a share of the crown.
Will Kamp had two goals and one assist while Logan Adams had a goal and an assist to lead the Indians.
Adams and Kamp scored a minute apart to put the Indians up 2-0 at halftime. Kamp then scored again in the 60th minute to make it 3-0. The Falcons did score twice late in the game – the first with three minutes remaining and the second with one second on the scoreboard clock.
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Logan Adams (CRN) from Will Kamp 19th minute
Will Kamp (CRN) from Logan Adams 20th minute
Second Half –
Will Kamp (CRN) Jasper Ring 60th minute
Pennsbury goal 77th minute
Pennsbury goal 80th minute
Council Rock North assistant coach Andrew Roberto on the win:
“It was a great win for us tonight. We controlled the game. It was really our game to lose once it went to 2-0. Pennsbury had energy the whole time. because it was their Senior Night. They wanted to get a win in their last game – they aren’t going to the tournament, so a lot of energy their way.
“After we scored our third goal, we started to unload the bench, so we got some young guys to get some much-needed minutes. You never know when you’re going to need them.”
—Props: “I would give Isaac Morris a shoutout. It was another good game for Isaac. He’s been our backbone in the back.”
—The Patriot championship: “For me, it’s my first time in my whole career, so it was definitely nice to win a championship as a coach. For the team, it’s a stepping stone. We’re definitely looking forward to Tuesday and Thursday. That’s where our focus is now. Off tomorrow and then back to work Friday.”
Next up: CR North (14-3-1, 8-1-1 SOL) was ranked No. 9 in the district power rankings prior to Wednesday’s game and will find out its first round opponent later in the week. Pennsbury finished its season 6-11-1 overall and 4-6 in the SOL.
CR North 2 1 – 3
Pennsbury 0 2 – 2
Bensalem 2, Council Rock South 1
Isaac Mathieu and Andrew Price each scored in the second half, breaking open a scoreless first half to post the upset win for the Owls on their Senior Night in the final league game for both squads.
Scoring Summary
Second Half –
Isaac Mathieu (B)
Andrew Price (B)

Bensalem coach Kevin Bock about the win:
“We started the game with a ceremonial tap off between two of our injured seniors, Christian Lee and Aboubacar Bayo. We’ve missed Christian Lee all year, as he broke his leg right before the season started. He was a key contributor to last season’s team, and we had big expectations for what he was going to bring to the team his senior year. Unfortunately, the injury occurred, but Christian was a positive presence as he was around the team all season. Abou was a huge addition to the team, as he scored nine goals this year but hurt his ankle a few weeks back.
“The boys came out playing with a ton of energy and passion. We were moving well off the ball while making quick and efficient passes. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie with both teams playing well.”
–The goals: “We got a goal early in the second half as Isaac was able to loft one over the keeper to go up 1-0. We then got a second goal when Tejas was able to create an opportunity down the left side which resulted in the ball popping out to Andrew Price who was able to finish into the far corner. South started sending a ton of numbers up and eventually got a goal to put the score to 2-1.
–Props: “Several of our seniors had exceptional games tonight. Tejas was a key contributor all season, but he was relentless tonight. Flew all over the field and put their defenders under constant pressure. Jaidyn Moffit, Angel Duran, Shea Mayberry, Jacob Oniate, and Yeriel Zapotitla all provided key minutes. Andrew Price and Humza Baig were huge in the middle of the field and provided a strong presence both defensively as well as in controlling the flow of the game. The defense led by Tommy Hurst, Tyler Anderson, and Nick Petrone were strong all night. Matt Rowan made several key saves and finished up his strong season with another solid game.
It’s been a tough season. If we would’ve played all season like we did tonight, I think we would’ve made a run at playoffs and could’ve made some noise.”
Council Rock South coach Alan Nicholl:
“Bensalem got better as the game went on, opening up a two-goal lead by mid second half. We gave the game some life with a goal in the 70th minute, but Bensalem were deserved winners at the end.
“We were sloppy defensively and really struggled on their small football field, and Bensalem took full advantage. Full credit to Bensalem and their fans who were up for it and brought great energy for their Senior Night.”
Next up: CR South (8-7-3, 4-4-2), which started the night at No. 24 in the district rankings, will await its district playoff fate on Saturday.
Bensalem finished its season at 7-9-2 overall and 4-6 in the SOL.

Central Bucks West 2, Pennridge 1 (OT)
Starting the day at No. 30 in the district power rankings, and seeing that only 28 teams make the playoffs, CB West was in must win mode against Pennridge Wednesday night, and while it took extra time, the Bucks pulled out the critical 2-1 victory.
Cole Barrett scored both goals for West, including the game-winner in OT off the assist from Andres Reyes.
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Lucas Gilbowski (P)
Cole Barrett (CBW) from Brandon Terry
Overtime –
Cole Barrett (CBW) from Andres Reyes assist
CB West coach John Adair on the win”
”Really proud of our boys tonight for finding a way to get over the line in a big moment that was virtually a must-win game.
“All in all, it was a really exciting and great way for these seniors to end their final game at War Memorial. They’ve all given so much to this program, before and since I’ve gotten here. So, I’m just so happy for them to have another chance to get into the playoffs with a result on Friday.
“If you look at our record from this season compared to last, you won’t see much of a difference, but I feel like we made big improvements and played a much better brand of soccer. We’ll look to improve more going into next season to turn some of these close one-goal games into wins and a playoff run.”
–The game: “I thought the first half was some of the best soccer we’ve played. It felt like we were in the attacking third for the majority of the time and were just knocking on the door without finding the finishing touch. We were unlucky to go behind 1-0, but I was proud of how we responded with a goal of our own within just a few minutes.
“The second half was a bit more stretched and we left ourselves open more in transition, but we were still creating chances regularly, but it was difficult for us to find the back of the net because Aaron (Rapsinski) has those guys really disciplined, and I thought their goalkeeper did a really nice job coming off his line to deal with balls in behind.
“In OT, it was great to end it relatively quickly, after Andres skipped past his man and delivered the bit of quality we were lacking on the final ball up to that point, which Cole was able to finish.”
–Props: “Our leaders were all terrific tonight. Cole Barrett continues to be one of the most dangerous players in the league, Harrison Brownlow does so much work that goes unnoticed unless you watch the kid work every day in training and games. Michael Rafalowski continues to be a driving force out of the midfield and is just so dynamic. He’s fun to watch and hard for defenders to stay with.
‘Kieran Thompson was another player that was really influential throughout the game. His ability to put out fires defensively with his pace and understanding has been huge for us all season, but this was the best I’ve seen him on the ball in terms of really taking the game to the opposition.”
Pennridge coach Aaron Rapsinki on the game:
“Another tough overtime loss for us. Kind of sums up our season. Just came up short again when it counted most.
“West had a big portion of possession in the first half. They had a few good chances, but we defended pretty well. We were able to get on the board first with about five minutes left in the half. Lucas Glibowski headed home a free kick from Andrew Levush. Unfortunately, we conceded about 90 seconds later to go into halftime 1-1.
“The second half was wide open. Both teams had a handful of good scoring opportunities. Gavin Dimmick saved a PK to keep us in it, we had a handful of set pieces and corner opportunities, West had a handful of good shots on frame. They were able to capitalize on a poor clearance in OT and put the game away.
–The seniors: “One final shoutout to our seniors. They left it out on the field for us tonight. We were able to finish the game with all of our seniors on the field. I also want to shout out Parker Annan. We gave him the job of man marking Brownlow in the midfield, and he is one of the best players in our conference. He did a great job trying to limit his involvement throughout the game while also giving our midfield an offensive spark.”
Next up: CB West (6-8-3, 2-7-1 SOL) has one last chance to secure a playoff spot Friday at Upper Dublin. Pennridge finished its season at 5-11-2 overall and 1-8-1 in the SOL.
Pennridge 1 0 0 – 1

Wissahickon 4, Hatboro-Horsham 1
Needing a win to keep its playoff hopes alive, Wissahickon did so emphatically with a huge 4-1 win over Hatboro-Horsham on Wednesday. Charlie Fortescue scored a pair of goals to lead the Trojans while Braden Vorchheimer added a pair of assists.
The Trojans, No. 27 to start the day in the district power rankings, play Harriton in a nonleague game Thursday.
“We managed to get into a playoff spot, but I don’t think we’ll be in if we don’t win tomorrow,” said Wissahickon coach Stuart Malcolm. “I told the players, ‘We still have to win tomorrow if we want to get in.”
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Charlie Fortescue (W) from Braden Vorchheimer 4th minute
Logan Gisondi (HH) from Miller Kahmar
Andrew Gajan (W) from Jayden Kim 25th minute
Charlie Fortescue (W) from Justin Reynoso 29th minute
Second Half –
Chanwoo Kim (W) from Braden Vorchheimer 43rd minute
Wissahickon coach Stuart Malcolm on the game:
“They’re a well-coached side. Kyle (McGrath) always has them up and ready.
“One of the things we talked about before the game was trying to get ahead, and we managed to get our first goal in the first five minutes. You couldn’t ask for a better start. We were allowing them a little too much space in the midfield, and they punished us for that (with a goal).
“We asked our players to tighten up a little bit. They did that, and we played a little better, played a little more in their half, and, therefore, created a few more chances. Andrew (Gajan) got a pass and made a great individual effort for the second goal. It was a really nice move for the third goal – it started in our own half, we passed the ball around. Justin got wide and sent in a terrific cross, and Charlie got it at the back post and hit it in. It was a nice goal, and it was timely because we had just gone ahead 2-1, and (Hatboro-Horsham) was fired up, trying to get back in the game. We kind of cooled that a little bit, getting our third one, and then it was just a case of trying to manage the game until halftime and talk about what we were doing well in the first half and what we adjusted a little bit and
did better in the first half and just set (a goal) for the second half – which was to try and get that next goal.
“Just showing the respect the players have for Kyle, there was no quit in them. We’re up 4-1, but they keep pushing, they got opportunities. Fortunately for us, they didn’t get another goal because that would have put us in the whole 2-goal lead scenario. We got our fourth goal early in the second half, which was great. We didn’t play the way we would have liked to play, but we played the way we thought at this particular time – we need to win the game, so we have to make sure we’re solid at the back. We had players drop back a little more, getting a body behind the ball instead of pushing forward. We just didn’t want to concede anything and just tried to manage the game at that point.”
—Props: “I thought Andrew Gajan had a really good game. He was playing up top for us. He scored a goal, and he did a nice job. Jofi Contreras was in the middle of the field, and he ran all day. Charlie Fortescue getting a couple of goals was obviously key in the win. We moved some players around, and the back line overall did a pretty good job of managing Hatboro’s chances, so that was pleasing from that perspective.”
—A point of emphasis: “It was just disappointing to give up a goal so quickly after we scored, and just to respond the way we did is something we talked about at halftime. We’ll talk again tomorrow before the Harriton game. We just need to tighten that up a bit.”
Next up: Wissahickon (10-7, 6-4 SOL) hosts Harriton on Thursday at 4 p.m. Hatboro-Horsham (8-8-1, 5-5 SOL) will finish its regular season Friday when it hosts Harriton.
Hatboro-Horsham 1 0 – 1

Upper Dublin 2, Plymouth Whitemarsh 1
Jackson Bryan scored twice, the second with just four minutes remaining, as Upper Dublin scored a 2-1 win over Plymouth Whitemarsh to wrap up the SOL Liberty Division portion of its season on Wednesday night.
Scoring Summary
Second Half –
Jackson Bryan (UD) from Jacob Peng 54th minute
PW goal
Jackson Bryan (UD) from Reilly McLaughlin, 76th minute
Upper Dublin coach Noah Johnson on the win:
“I was pleased with everyone that played. It’s been a rough one this year with injuries, players moving around a little bit.”
—UD goals: “In the 54th minute, Jacob Peng was able to find Jackson Bryan on a nice little serve ball, and Jackson was able to find the back of the net for us to go up 1-0. PW scored a couple minutes after off a throw-in. They were able to head the ball in past our goalie. In the 76th minute, Reilly McLaughlin was able to find Jackson off a throw-in of our own. He threw the ball into the box, and Jackson was able to go ahead and tap it in past the keeper to put us up 2-1.”
—Props: “I’m pleased with Reilly McLaughlin and Brady Hillman, my two captains. It was good to see them mature. Looking back, they’re turning into young men in front of my eyes. Three years ago, they were freshmen coming into the program. It was nice to see them rally the boys together to get this win, knowing what’s at stake – us not making it to the playoffs or us fighting for a seed to make sure we get the best place possible.
“I’m really pleased with Jackson Bryan being able to find the back of the net twice, especially after having a rough game against Hatboro-Horsham.”
Next up: Upper Dublin (10-6-1, 7-2-1 SOL), entered Wednesday at No. 18 in the district power rankings. It hosts CB West in a nonleague game on Friday.
PW finished its season at 3-14 overall and 2-8 SOL.
PW 0 1 – 1
UD 1 1 – 2
Abington 4, Quakertown 0
Five in a row.
The Ghosts’ season had its peaks and valleys, but at the end of the day, Abington finds itself in a familiar spot atop the SOL Liberty Division standings. It is the fifth straight season the Ghosts have captured the division title, and they had to overcome some obstacles to get there, none bigger than the loss of all-league midfielder Brian Murataj – a senior captain – to a season-ending injury.
In Wednesday’s win, Brian O’Neill was the offensive catalyst with a hand in three of the four goals. Four different players –O’Neill, Owen Gesing, Aaron Comisar and Nicky Gray – scored one goal each. O’Neill also had a pair of assists.
The Ghosts are 10th in the latest District 1 4A power rankings and will have a home game in Tuesday’s opening round.
Scoring Summary
Brian O’Neill – 1 goal
Owen Gesing – 1 goal
Aaron Comisar – 1 goal
Nicky Gray – 1 goal
Brian O’Neill – 2 assists
Up next: Abington closed out its regular season with an 11-4-3 record over, 8-1-1 in the SOL. Quakertown finished its season with a 2-15-1 mark, 1-9 in the league play.
SOL Freedom Division
Springfield Twp 3, Cheltenham 1
It was three-peat for the Spartans, who clinched their third SOL Freedom title in as many years on Wednesday night. Not a bad way to celebrate Senior Night and quite an accomplishment for a program four years removed from a one-win season.
“It’s so cool,” Springfield Twp coach Dan Meder said. “Until two years ago, the school did not have a trophy in the case. The school had never won anything (in boys’ soccer).
“The fact that these guys made this happen three years in a row is outstanding. Now they want to see what they can do in the 4A (district) playoffs. No one expected us to be where we are. It’s been an incredible regular season. Let’s go see if we can keep it going.”
Springfield isn’t the only team to make a remarkable turnaround. Cheltenham didn’t have a season in the fall of 2020, the COVID year, and the preceding year, the Panthers were 1-13 in league play. This year, they are the cream of the crop in the Freedom Division, and both squads entered Wednesday’s high stakes regular season finale with identical records in division play. The winner would win the division crown, the losing team would finish second in the standings.
Neither team scored in the first half, but 18 minutes into the second half Harry Bates scored with a Henry Drapkin assist. Four minutes later Kayden Sowell (Harry Bates assist) found the net to put the Spartans on top 2-0.
Shortly thereafter, Cheltenham’s Noah Jutzi scored with assists from Zack Rosser and Emile Chanoine, trimming the Spartans’ lead to one, but Eden Ha tacked on an insurance goal in the 72nd minute, turning Drapkin’s crossing pass into a goal that gave the Spartans some breathing room.
Scoring Summary
First half – No score
Second half
Harry Bates (S) from Henry Drapkin 58th minute
Kayden Sowell (S) from Harry Bates 62nd minute
Noah Jutzi (C) from Zack Rosser & Emile Chanione 65th minute
Eden Ha (S) from Henry Drapkin 72nd minute
Springfield Twp coach Dan Meder on the win: “This was a must-win for multiple reasons. It was for the Freedom Division, it was for positioning in (district) playoffs. That math is complicated. My assistant is brilliant at figuring it out, but it’s beyond me, so I just tell my guys, ‘Let’s go out and try and win as many games as we can and see what happens, try and control the things we can control.’ Whatever else happens – if somebody goes out and wins more games against better teams, there’s nothing we can do about it.”
–Intensity & composure: “We tell our guys – intensity and composure, so they’ve got to win the ball, and then they’ve got to be composed when they win the ball, so it’s not just run and tackle someone as hard as you can. It’s – win that ball with that intensity, and let’s move the ball. Let’s be composed with it, and this group is really good at that.”
–Props: “Kayden Sowell has stepped up every game for us. He’s been outstanding and flexible in positioning. He’s a guy who played out wide for us last year. We moved him into the middle to help us control the game, and he has done exactly that. He’s been terrific.”
Senior captain Chase Rubincam: “Since they beat us at their place, they were coming in fired up. Senior Night is always a special night for us as a family, and we definitely wanted to get a win. We definitely got fired up more. We like night games, so we got fired up for the night game. It was a special win for everyone, especially for the seniors.”
Senior captain Kayden Sowell: “It’s like a family here – we all trust each other, we all know what we’ve got to do, and once you have that level of trust, you just get the job done.
“We knew what we had to do tonight. Coming to our field, we know how to play well on turf. All we have to do is move the ball around and really lock in defensively, and we can put our chances away.”
Senior captain Ben Hubley: “On turf, we’re able to move the ball a lot smoother, so that was a big part. We knew as a team we could work well and pass around this team, so we tried to do that. We got it done, got balls across and finished, and that was key.
“I’m really happy about it. We’ve been on varsity for three years, and three years in a row we won the division. Before that, we hadn’t had one trophy, so it was really important. We’ve got a banner, we have our years on it, and it just means so much to do it three times.”
Next up: Both teams are headed to the District One Class 4A playoffs. Springfield (14-1-3, 8-1-1 SOL) started the day and looks to be a lock in the No. 3 spot. Cheltenham (10-6-1, 6-3-1) entered Wednesday at No. 17.
Cheltenham 0 0 – 0
Springifleld Twp 0 3 – 3

Upper Moreland 1, Lower Moreland 1 (2 OT)
Gabe Hendrickson scored four minutes into the game, only to see Lower Moreland tie it later in the half, and that would be the game’s only scoring as these two rivals settled for a 1-1 tie on LM’s Senior Night.
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Gabe Henrickson (UM) from Jackson Stuetz
Jordy Barrera (LM)
UM coach Justin Allegra on the tie:
“This was the fourth Senior Night we were playing, and it’s extremely difficult to play when the opposing team has lots of fans and support. Gabe opened the scoring four minutes into the first half off a cross from Jackson Stuetz. LM scored about 15 minutess later to tie it up.
“The game was the usual LM vs UM rivalry game, with hard play and lots of passion. Both teams had multiple opportunities to score but the goalies played well.
–Props: The defense of Vinny Vito, Bobby Barrett, Connor Cleary, Will Rosenbaum, and Nick Baptista played phenomenal. The boys finished their season playing hard and never giving up to the final whistle. I was very proud of the way the boys fought and played so hard.”
LM coach Bob Barnhart said:
“Tough 1-1 night game to finish out the season. We conceded on an early goal and clawed back to equalize with a goal by Jordy Barrera. Good game in goal by Keegan Courduff. We played well and now are looking to get ready for districts.
“UM was very physical and had us back on our heels a bit tonight. OT is always tough because you want to get forward, but you are also trying to be careful to not let up one on a breakdown.”
Next up: Lower Moreland (8-8-2, 2-6-2 SOL) started Wednesday at No. 6 in the district rankings for the eight-team Class 3A Tournament, and will have to wait to see its postseason fate on Saturday.
Upper Moreland finished its season at 7-11 overall and 3-7 in the SOL.
UM 1 0 0 0 – 1
LM 1 0 0 0 – 1
New Hope-Solebury 3, William Tennent 0
Aramis Shire had two goals and assisted on the other, as New Hope-Solebury jumped up early and never looked back in its 3-0 win over Tennent in the regular-season finale on Wednesday.
Will Malone had the Lions’ second goal, in the 17th minute.
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Aramis Shire (NH) from Joe Picone, 4th minute

New Hope coach Chris Van Pelt on the win:
“Good performance to head into next week with. A lot of positives and a few things to focus on. Credit to Tennent. They generated a few good chances at the end of the first half and never let us drop our guard in the second half.”
Next up: New Hope (11-6, 6-4 SOL) looks to be a lock in the No. 2 spot for the District One Class A Tournament, an eight-team tourney that is scheduled to start on Wednesday.
Tennent 0 0 – 0
New Hope 2 1 – 3
