Neshaminy 5, Quakertown 0
Rezi Tebidze scored three goals as Neshaminy jumped out with four in the first half on the way to the shutout win over Quakertown Tuesday in the team’s regular season opener.
Dylan Rehell and Ryan McMullen added goals for Neshaminy, which won three games a year and scored one goal or less in 15 games. Needless to say, 2024 began in a big way for the team.
“You could tell our kids matured a lot from last year,” said coach Tom Foley. “We got a little bit bigger. We got a little bit smarter. We played with a lot more intensity. We weren’t pushed around like we were last year. It was a good way to get our confidence going in the first game.”
By the Numbers:
First Half –
Rezi Tebidze (N) from Dylan Reheil, 15th minute
Dylan Reheil (N) from AJ Kollie 19th minute
Rezi Tebidze (N) from Mark Andreyeu 24th minute
Rezi Tebidze (N) from Chris Reed 28th minute
Second half
Ryan McMullen (N) from Zach Hargraves 69th minute
Tom Foley:
“We outshot them 28-2. Their goalkeeper (Sean Gillin) did a yeoman’s job. I think he had 13 or 14 saves, and three or four of them were spectacular saves – they were the diving, extended kind of saves. He did a really nice job for them.
“Overall, everyone got in, everyone chipped in, everyone did a really nice job. We had a couple lapses, but that’s to be expected when you’re having your way most of the afternoon. We had a couple things we had to clean up a little bit, but other than that, it was a good, positive result. We’re back at it with North Penn, which will certainly be a much more difficult game. It’s going to be a really good test for us to see how far we’ve come.”
–The goals: “We came out, and we were working really hard. We came out right from the jump and pressured them, pressured them, and we caused a lot of turnovers. We pressured their backs into a lot of turnovers, and that’s how we got our goals.
“The first goal, Dylan won a hard-fought battle with one of their backs. He took it right to the post, slotted it across to Rezi, and Rezi tapped it in. It’s how you draw it up.
“We had a nice little buildup on Dylan’s goal. Came down the left side, AJ served it across, it was probably about chin high, and Dylan volleyed it into the upper 90, so it was a really nice goal.
“Again, we pressured them into a turnover. Mark Andryeu came down the right side, Rezi got a slotted ball and tucked it in. Same thing with Chris. Chris got the ball up the right flank, served it across on the ground, and Rezi was there to hammer it in.
“On Ryan’s goal, Zach Hargroves got a nice ball from our center midfielder – Brody Collins – on the left side. He made it to the post, cut it back, and Ryan was there to hammer it in. All the goals were really similar. We created turnovers. The team brought a lot of energy, which was really nice.”
Quakertown coach Steven Hippauf: “Give credit to Neshaminy. They are a very talented and physical team. Their wingers caused us all sorts of problems today. Only positive to take away for us was the play from our goalkeeper, Sean Gillin. Sean had 12 saves, most of which were saves not many high school goalkeepers could make.”
Next up: Neshaminy (1-0) plays at North Penn Thursday night.
Quakertown (1-1) is off until Sept. 4 when its hosts Plymouth Whitemarsh.
Quakertown 0 0 – 0
Neshaminy 4 1 – 5
Council Rock North 2, Penn Charter 1
Logan Adams scored a pair of first-half goals and that proved enough as CR North won its season opener over Penn Charter on Tuesday night.
“I think we controlled play two-thirds of the game,” said Indians coach Joe Stackhouse. “We’re missing a couple of guys that are nicked up. I think they were a little amped up tonight. The women’s game in front of us ran a little bit long. It’s the first night, and they needed to slow the game down in their heads and pick it up in their feet.”
By the Numbers:
First Half
Logan Adams (CRN) from Zad Najimini; 5th minute 1-0
Logan Adams (CRN) from Landon Lentz 30th minute 2-0
Second half
Penn Charter goal 77th minute 2-1
Coach Joe Stackhouse: “We return eight of the 11 from last year. We have 14 seniors on the roster. Looking back at the film of the La Salle (state) quarterfinal game, five of the kids on the field when we scored the winning goal (in a 2-1 overtime win) weren’t starters, and the depth that we had has continued.”
—Props: “Darek Miller held down the defensive part really well. Down the middle of the field, Isaac Morais and Landon Lentz played well. James Reynolds and Corey Brennan on the flanks. Will Kamp didn’t find the back of the net tonight, but he was dangerous the whole time.”
Next up: CR North (1-0) hosts William Tennent on Wednesday.
Penn Charter 0 1 – 1
CR North 2 0 – 2
Central Bucks South 6, Methacton 0
The Titans opened this season with a shutout win over Methacton in their home stadium. They took care of business in a hurry, scoring five first-half goals. Four different players scored in the half with AJ Okoniewski scoring a pair. Jackson Tait scored the lone goal of the second half..
By the numbers:
First half –
Evan Jaskelewicz (CBS) from Josh Dozier
Tyler Jaskelewicz (CBS) from Brennan Franklin
Nate Monser (CBS) from Pat VanLuvanee
AJ Okoniewski (CBS) from Josh Dozier
AJ Okoniewski (CBS) from Nate Monser
Second half –
Jackson Tait (CBS) from Brennan Franklin 6-0
Coach Ed Brnardic:
“It was a great start to the season. We had a competitive tryout that saw only two sophomores make the varsity team – Tyler Jaskelewicz and Jackson Tait – and it was great to see both of them on the scoreboard tonight. But the credit always goes to the guy making the pass and we had some unselfish play that set up several of our goals tonight. Massive props to our goalkeeper Pat VanLuvanee, whose calm play in the back started many of our buildouts. His decision-making is what starts the whole thing for us. It was special to see him credited with an assist.”
–The game: “The Titans set the tone early when midfielder Josh Dozier stepped up to win a tackle and then quickly slid a diagonal through ball to Evan Jaskelewicz, who wasted no time and put the ball into the bottom right corner to give the Titans the early lead.
“CB South continued to pressure Methacton and scored the goal of the night when Lucas Tyson stepped up to intercept a pass, connected with Ryan Kealy who then fed Brennan Franklin. Franklin and Tyler Jaskelewicz played a beautiful 1-2-1 which sent Tyler 1-on-1 with the Methacton keeper. The ball hit the upper left corner giving the Titans the 2-0 lead.
“Nate Monser scored his first varsity goal on a long pass from Pat VanLuvanee, followed by two goals by AJ Okoniewski in a span of eight minutes to give the Titans a 5-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, a long distance shot by Brennan Franklin rattled off the goal post, and sophomore Jackson Tait made an aggressive run into the box and was rewarded with the loose ball finishing into the empty goal.
Next up: CB South (1-0) at Downingtown West (Thursday 3:45 pm)
CB South 5 1 – 6

“This truly was a team effort with many players contributing on and off the ball. This was shown by the large number of corner kicks earned, shots on goal and team defensive effort all over the field. The East team hopes to take this same effort and dynamic play into their game against Holy Ghost Prep on Saturday.”

After surrendering an early goal, Pennridge tied it up in the 25th minute, as Frank Lopez scored off a Roman Arcade assist.
“Props to my guys that played 70-80 minutes,” said Rams coach Aaron Rapsinski. “Guys at all levels of the field. Gavin Dimmick, our goalie, stood on his head and made a number of great saves and the first and second half to keep us in it.”

Host Faith Christian scored a pair of early goals, and Pennsbury couldn’t bounce back, falling for the second time in as many games to start the season.
“We gave up two early goals,” said coach Tom Stoddart. “We had a better second half, created chances, including a missed penalty kick with 20 minutes to go. We need to find the goal.”
