SOL Colonial Division
Central Bucks South 3, Central Bucks East 0
CB South earned a hard-fought victory at CB East on Thursday night. After a scoreless first half, South managed to score 3 times in the second half. The first one came 10 minutes into the second half when AJ Okoniewski played a deep ball into the right corner behind the East defense. Andriy Popelnytskiy received the pass and drove into the box and his layoff pass found Jackson Tait who finished in the bottom corner to give South the 1-0 advantage. From there, CB South continued to apply pressure and their next goal came when AJ Okoniewski picked up a loose ball and worked it down the field with center back Lucas Tyson and Jackson Tait. Lucas continued to push forward, and AJ was able to get the ball back on the wing and he fired a long distance shot and found the top corner of the goal from about 30 yards out. The final goal of the game occurred when Josh Dozier found Andriy Popelnytskiy on the wing, and this time Andriy cut into the middle fired a hard shot with his left foot to beat the keeper and give the Titans a 3-0 road win.

COACH ED BRNARDIC:
“We had been playing a little tight lately, and maybe it’s because we were guilty of coaching them a little too hard. On the bus, we told them we are going to step back tonight and just let them play. Let them go out and do what they know how to do. We played patient, and we played well, but it was still a formidable challenge. CB East is a great team, and their coach, Josh Isaacsohn, is a class act who always has them prepared and always brings in set plays that give us tons of problems. They had some chances early that could have changed the way the game went, so we were thankful we got on the scoreboard first.”
PROPS:
—Ryan Wiener: “Ryan was a brick wall today in goal. I think he was perfect. He made great decisions coming off the line, and he made great decisions in his ball distribution. And then, every ball shot at him stuck to him like glue. He has really stepped into a leadership role in the back for us and is playing extremely well.”
—Andriy Popelnytskiy: “On the back end, it was Ryan, and on the front, it was Andriy. Even before we started scoring, Andriy was making dangerous runs down the wing and sending in great crosses. On the first goal, he had his head up and had a pass/shoot option – he elected to drop the ball back to Jackson Tait with a perfect pass that gave us the lead. Andriy then closed out the scoring with a great individual effort. He cut in on his defender and fired a ball with his left foot. We are blessed to have a winger who keeps his defenders on their toes because he can beat you in so many ways.”

North Penn coach Chris Depeppe said: “We were outplayed for much of the game and really didn’t deserve more than a draw. We got lucky on a fluke goal early and on a late set piece and just held on for the last 5 minutes.
“I don’t think we created any other great chances, other than a goal that was taken off the board on a very poor offside call from my perspective.
“CB West has a solid team and gave us problems all night.”
Up next: North Penn (3-0, 1-0 SOL) will host Central Bucks South Wednesday (7pm), and Central Bucks West (0-1) will host Council Rock South in a non-league game Monday.

Souderton coach Frank Demas said:
“I’m really happy and proud with the attitude and desire we came out with today. I think we won most of the first and second balls in the middle. Our defense was very organized (led by Russel and Cusano). Really just came down to a complete team effort to get the result today. From starters to guys coming in off the bench, there was a real desire to support the team and make an impact.”
– About Pennridge: “They are a well-coached and organized team. Those guys battle till the last second. We had to be aware of some of the attacking guys who were dangerous. Shout out to their goalkeeper too.”

Neshaminy 0, Council Rock South 0
Eighty minutes and then a pair of overtime periods weren’t enough to decide this one as Patriot Division rivals and perennial powers Neshaminy and CR South settled for a scoreless tie in the division opener.
Neshaminy coach Tom Foley:
–On the game:” The first half was fairly even. I thought we had a few better looks. The second half, I thought we had the better of play in the half. We kept winning balls, we kept attacking. We missed a couple sitters. One was probably three yards away. It was a wide open goal, and we knocked it over the crossbar. I thought we carried the play really well in the second half.
“Overtime, I thought we had a couple decent opportunities. The second overtime, Rock South had a couple pushes into the end, a couple chances, but they weren’t overly dangerous. I think we kind of ran out of gas in the second overtime. Overall, we played a really strong game. Rock South, they pressure you a lot, and I thought our guys held up to it pretty well. We unfortunately couldn’t knock it into the net.”
–Props: “I was pleased with our back line. We really didn’t give them any clean looks. Overall, Damien Castro played a real strong game up top. Our four sophomores – Jayson Morris, Brody Collins, Dean Goodwin and Julian Shaw – and freshman David Lopez, were all big contributors tonight, which was great and very encouraging for the future as well. You have four sophomores and a freshman playing significant minutes and helping us out. They all played really, really well today.”
CR South coach Alan Nicholl:
“It was a hard-fought game and I’m very pleased with our effort to meet the high pace and physicality of a tough Neshaminy team. Neshaminy had the better chances to win the game, but my goalkeeper (Noah Selekman) was flawless. I thought Nolan Graham and Ryan Leyman were tireless all evening and deserve a lot of credit for our ability to stay in the game.”
Up next: Council Rock South (0-1-2, 0-0-1 SOL) will host Central Bucks West in a non-league game Monday, and Neshaminy (1-1-1, 0-1-1 SOL) will host Council Rock North on Wednesday.

Second half –
Adriano Roman assisted by Chase Rappaport
Jimmy Smith from Dom Bova
Upper Dublin coach Noah Johnson:
–On the game: “The game was pretty scrappy at the end of the first half, and in the second half, the game just got away from them. We were able to put up two more goals.
“I was pleased we were able to strike a tally in the win column. It’s been a little bit of a rough year already. Losing the scrimmage – it obviously doesn’t mean anything, but it kind of messes up your momentum going into the season. Then losing two games back-to-back you kind of start scratching your head a bit – ‘What are we doing? Did we get something wrong?’ I was pleased with the guys being able to figure it out and get things clicking a little bit and get us heading in the right direction. It’s definitely a nice way to start the Labor Day weekend.”
–Props: “Once again, Dom Bova did a fantastic job. This season shows how much we missed not having him because of his injury last year. If I could have given him my ACL last year for him to play, I probably would have done it.
“Jimmy Smith did a fantastic job. I’m proud to see him start to find himself as a player because for a very long time Jimmy has been hot and cold, hot and cold. I don’t want to jinx him, but it seems like we’re heading to a nice lukewarm temperature with Jimmy, and it’s a constant temperature. Everyone overall as a team played well.”
Up next: Wissahickon (1-2-1, 0-1 SOL) will travel to Plymouth Whitemarsh on Wednesday, and Upper Dublin (1-2, 1-0 SOL) will host Abington on Wednesday.
