Non-league crossover games
Council Rock North 3, Central Bucks East 2
CR North scored three goals in the first half and that held up in the second half as the Indians eked one out a win against CB East by a 3-2 score on Tuesday.
“It was a very good game – stressful but a good game,” Rock North varsity assistant Brian Hoffman said. “This is a long week – we have four games in five days.”
After CB East’s Jack Thibeault opened the scoring three minutes into the game, CR North answered with two goals in the next two minutes – one each from Darek Miller and Will Louden – and then made it 3-1 with a David Morais goal in the 15th minute.
A goal by Finley Rennie 15 minutes into the second half pulled the Patriots within one, but the
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Jack Thibeault (CBE) from Aidan Pasternak, 3rd minute
Darek Miller (CRN) from Dan Novik, 4th minute
Will Loudon (CRN), 5th minute
David Morais (CRN), 15th minute
Second Half –
Finley Rennie (CBE) from Alden Iurato, 55th minute
Council Rock North varsity assistant Brian Hoffman:
–On the game: “They scored first – it was a long throw that got flicked on to the far post. It hit the post, they crossed it back across the goal mouth for a guy (Jack Thiebeault) to basically take the net off.
“You’d think that would be a little head hanging situation, but then we scored in the fourth and fifth minutes to go up 2-1. In the fourth minute, Darek Miller scored off a head ball from a corner kick from Dan Novik.
“In the fifth minute, Will Loudon scored – it was pretty much unassisted. It was pinged around the box, the defenders tried to clear it a couple of times, and Will just pounced on it, and from the corner of the 18 hit – and he’s a lefty – a beautifully bent right-footed over the keeper to the far post. It was picture perfect.
“Then in the 31st minute, David Morais, similarly, a ball popped around on a clearance from a corner. It was a bouncing ball that David hit on a volley to the far post. Again, took the net off. It was really well struck.”
–East pulls to within one: “In the second half, they sent a ball to the corner. They had a forward who was in an offsides position, so he intentionally did not play it, so they didn’t make any call. They had a young man (Aiden Iurato) who was streaking down the sidelines from an on-side position, and one of our defenders I think just kind of fell asleep. He thought – ‘They’re going to call the offsides or the ball’s going out of bounds.’ He wasn’t really busting his butt, and the young man got inside of him, played the ball across for one of his teammates who basically just had to tap it. It was a total hustle play from the young man who had the assist.
“For the next 25 minutes, it was a barnburner. They had all the momentum. They were a tremendously physical team, and there were not a lot of calls made in the realm of physicality, so we had a couple guys go down with the wind knocked out of them, stuff like that. We had to go deeper in our bench. Thankfully, the guys held the tide back. It was great.”
–Props: “Chase Murphy, in the midfield, played like a man possessed. He protected the ball with such a toughness because he was getting pushed, pulled, and he really stood tall. Logan Adams, similarly, he plays up top as our center forward, and oftentimes, he is left on an island. He knows he’s going to have to receive the ball and really take a beating and still hold onto possession. He has done phenomenally in most of these games.”
Next up: Council Rock North will be on the road at Abington Thursday (7pm), and Central Bucks East will travel to Springfield Twp.
CR North 3 0 – 3
CB East 1 1 -2
Abington 3, Springfield Twp 1
Christian Hinkle scored two goals as Abington went on the road and scored a huge 3-1 win against Springfield on Tuesday afternoon.
“It was a good game,” said Galloping Ghosts coach Randy Garber. “It came down to, after it was 2-1, who was going to get the next goal. If they would have gotten the tying goal, we probably would still be playing.
“It was a good game, very physical. They’re a very good team. They’re going to win a lot of games. We just had the advantage because of our size.”
Scoring Summary
First half –
Christian Hinkle (A) assisted by Jaza Vazquez, 34:50
Jake Gibson (S), 27:51
Chase Metzgar (A), 14:34
Second half –
Christian Hinkle (A), 29:20
Abington coach Randy Garber said:
“Our first goal came on a corner kick, and their first goal came on a long throw-in because they had a kid that could throw the ball in. The field was only 60 yards wide, so the guys were just throwing the ball into the mix, so whoever was bigger, stronger and got the ball had the advantage. We scored two out of our three goals in the air – one on a throw-in and the other on a corner kick – and Chase Metzgar hit one from 25 yards out just before the half to make it 2-1, and that was a huge goal because of the time it came about, just before the half.
“We went into halftime 2-1, and in the second half, we were going with the wind. It was one of those – just keep the ball in your end of the field, and you’re going to win the game. We had a throw-in 10 minutes into the second half, and (Christian) Hinkle, who’s just come back from an injury, hit it in the back of the net. He had the first goal on a corner kick. He’s a big boy. He’s every bit of 6-2, strong, and he flicked two balls in the back of the net using his head. Our size is definitely a factor when you get balls coming across.”
–Props: “George (Hooven), our goalkeeper, had a nice game. Kyle Kretschman and Carter (Shannon), our two center backs, played outstanding in the back. Owen Gesing did a nice job in the midfield, and Hinkle up top – he was the difference.”
Next up: Abington will host Council Rock North Thursday (7pm) in a key crossover game, and Springfield Twp will host Central Bucks East.
Abington 2 1 – 3
Springfield 1 0 – 1
Upper Dublin 3, Lower Moreland 1
Adriano Romano and Jacob Peng scored second half goals as Upper Dublin broke away from previously unbeaten Lower Moreland to earn the key crossover victory on Tuesday afternoon.
“I was most pleased with the boys’ maturity,” said Flying Cardinals coach Noah Johnson. “All the guys today, realizing this was a big day to make a huge step forward to get a potential early positioning for playoffs. It also was one of those wild card games where we wanted to keep it in our back pocket just in case later on down the field, we might fall to a team that would knock us down in the rankings. It was really important to get something out of it today. A win is always nice”
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Jake Picker (UD) from Mike Tritz
LM goal
Second Half –
Adriano Romano (UD) from Kaleb Abebe
Jacob Peng (UD) from Chase Rappaport
UD coach Noah Johnson:
–Props: “I was pleased with Jake PIcker. He was planned to be in the game today, but one of our players going down and getting injured forced him to come in and play 75 minutes straight. He did a very good job, so hats off to him. He’s definitely showing just how much better he’s gotten over the past couple years.
“I also was really pleased with Adriano. The kid just can’t seem to miss. He’s doing a very good job of putting the ball in the back of the net.”
Next up: Upper Dublin will host Council Rock South Friday, and Lower Moreland will host Central Bucks South Thursday.
Upper Dublin 1 2 – 3
Lower Moreland 1 0 – 1
Central Bucks South 3, Council Rock South 1
Tyler Jaskelwicz and Jackson Tait scored second-half goals as CB South pulled away from visiting CR South for the key crossover victory on Tuesday night.
Jaskelwicz also scored in the first half for the Titans.
“I am really proud of how our team responded just 20 hours after a gut-wrenching loss at Holy Ghost,” said CB South coach Ed Brnardic. “Instead of being frustrated and playing tight, they relaxed and played creatively. It looked like they were having a lot of fun out there – like all the pressure of the season had been lifted off their chests and they just went to enjoy the game. I give them a lot of credit for putting things into perspective and just playing.
“Of course, Council Rock South did not make it easy for us. After they punched in the tying goal, the field tilted, and we were playing uphill for quite a while before we settled and took control back.
“It was another excellently officiated game, and full respect to CR South Coach Alan Nicholl – we’ve had them on our schedule rotation for the last two years, and I truly admire the combination of effort and respect for the game that his team plays with. Top class program – his players are fortunate to be a part of it.”
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Tyler Jaskelewicz (CBS) from Josh Dozier
Darius DeGregorio (CRS) from Ryan Leyman
Second Half –
Tyler Jaskelewicz (CBS) from AJ Okoniewski
Jackson Tait (CBS) from AJ Okoniewski
CB South coach Ed Brnardic:
“CB South opened the scoring in the first 2 minutes when Josh Dozier played a nice through ball to Jackson Tait. Jackson then cut the ball across to Tyler Jaskelewicz on the top of the 6-yard box for the tap-in goal. CB South kept applying the pressure, but it was CR South who was able equalize when a through ball put Darius DeGregorio in alone with the keeper. The 1-1 score held until halftime as both teams traded chances.
“CB South re-grouped at halftime and took back control of the game. First, it was Tyler Jaskelwicz collecting a pass from AJ Okoniewski, dribbling past a few defenders and letting go of a rocket into the top corner. And then it was AJ Okoniewski sending a cross through the box that found the head of Jackson Tait for the final goal.”
–Props: Tyler Jaskelewicz- “Tyler was maybe pressing a bit too hard earlier in the season – this typically happens when a player wears the captain’s armband – it makes you feel like you need to do too much. But over the last week Tyler has really settled in, and he punched in two more goals again tonight. He is now on fire. The second goal tonight was an absolute screamer that he ripped off after dribbling past a few defenders. If he keeps shooting like this, our field maintenance personnel is not going to be too happy with him because he’s going to start putting holes in the back of the net.”
AJ Okoniewski- “If you watch videos of our goals and go back far enough, you will see AJ Okoniewski always being involved somewhere. He is the catalyst of so many of our attacks and tonight he assisted on both of our second half goals. I really don’t know what we would have done without him this season.”
Jackson Tait- “Jackson has had a breakthrough season this year. He put in the work in the offseason, and he’s been an inspiration to all the current sophomores to show them how to make the big jump into their junior season. He’s so dangerous on the dribble, and he can beat you in so many ways. Tonight, it was with his head, but my favorite play was the unselfish cross he made in the opening minutes of the game to give us the tap-in goal.”
CR South coach Alan Nicholl:
“CB (South) scored in the opening three minutes and put us under a lot of pressure. But we gave them something to think about after scoring against the run of play at the midway point of the half when Ryan Leyman played-in Darius Degregario for the equalizer.
“It was 1-1 at half, but CB turned up the heat in the second half and simply took us to school. We couldn’t contend with their movement through the midfield, and they overran us with their energy. A couple of wonderful goals highlighted their dominance as they deserved every bit of that win. We’ll look to put this behind us with a busy week ahead.”
Next up: Council Rock South will be on the road at Upper Dublin Friday, and Central Bucks South will travel to Lower Moreland.
Central Bucks South 1 2 – 3
Council Rock South 1 0 – 1

“We showed up well and played a solid game, with a lot of different guys getting on the score sheet, which was something we’ve needed. All and all a good night and good result.”

Cheltenham 1, Plymouth Whitemarsh 0
A first-half goal by Billy Fishman held up thanks to a strong defensive effort as Cheltenham held off PW for the 1-0 win on Thursday.
Scoring Summary
First Half –
Billy Fishman (C), 15th minute
Cheltenham coach Danny Shields:
–On the game: “The winning goal came in the 15th minute when a cross from the right clipped the crossbar and fell to Billy Fishman, who headed it home.
“From there, Cheltenham’s back line of Ean Justice, Emile Chanoine, Alan Fazio, and Dylan Miller kept goalkeeper Wolf Brown largely untroubled in the first half.
“In the second half, Fishman continued to cause problems for the Colonials’ defense with multiple chances, while Plymouth Whitemarsh pushed forward but found Brown in top form with several key saves.”
–Props: “Midfielders Aldin Sabljic and Ruben Villatoro worked tirelessly, Jackson Scott impressed in his return from an ankle injury, and Harry Rubin Reynolds also contributed before being subbed out.
“Despite some late injuries, Cheltenham’s defense held firm to close out the shutout win.”
PW coach Toni Washington:
“Went down early to a team who wanted it more on their home field. We made changes defensively and had some scoring opportunities but couldn’t answer back. Their keeper made a great save from our guy Yousef Al-Hebshi, which would’ve tied it toward the end of the match.”
Next up: Cheltenham will host Pennridge Thursday, and Plymouth Whitemarsh will host Neshaminy.

Aidan Berhle scored the only goal of the first half, turning an assist from Carson Schell into the goal.
The Knights broke open the close game with four straight goals in the second half after the Owls made it a 2-1 game.
Schell finished with one goal and two assists. Rylan Weed added a pair of goals. Freshman Leo Biase scored his first varsity goal. Ryan Smith also had a goal for the Knights.
Aiden Price scored the Owls’ only goal.
Scoring summary
North Penn
Aidan Berhle (1 goal)
Carson Schell (1 goal, 2 assists)
Ryan Smith (1 goal)
Rylan Weed (2 goals)
Leo Biase (1 goal)
Bensalem
Aiden Price (1 goal)
North Penn coach Chris DePeppe:
–On the game: “The only goal in first half came from senior Aidan Berhle assisted by Carson Schell. Carson was very active and effective today. He created a few chances, assisted on two goals and scored one of his own. He opened the second half with a nice run and a great ball across to Ryan Smith who scored a tap in. Junior Rylan Weed had a big game too. I played Rylan at striker for the first time this season and he promptly scored twice.
“A few guys came off the bench today and gave us very solid minutes: Seniors Chen Yue and Aidan Green were excellent, and seniors Ryan Smith and Cole Taylor continued to keep us organized in the back.
“Our final goal came from freshman Leo Biase (his first) who tapped in Aidan Berhle’s header across the goalmouth.
“We played well in the second half, but we still fell asleep for a moment and allowed an easy goal. We have yet to play well for a full 80 minutes, and I think we should be more determined to shut teams out.”
Bensalem coach Kevin Bock:
–On the game: “We were down 1-0 at the half and then went down 2-0 before getting one back to make it 2-1. Went downhill from there.
“Thought our boys played well during the first half. We had good energy and created a few opportunities, just couldn’t capitalize. Gave up a goal roughly midway through the half, but we didn’t hang our heads and kept it close at the half.
“North Penn scored early in the second half, but we still continued to work. We finally broke through when Aiden Price won a 50/50 ball which went out wide to Brandon Bock who calmly finished to the far corner. Instead of using that momentum to our advantage, we gave up a couple soft goals and never recovered.”
Next up: North Penn will be on the road at Upper Moreland Thursday, and Bensalem will travel to Wissahickon.
Bensalem 0 1 – 1
North Penn 1 5 – 6
