One day after scoring seven goals in a win over Quakertown, the Hatters could not find the net in Thursday’s non-league game against the tough PCL squad.
“Today’s match was quite different than yesterday’s in which nine goals were scored,” Hatboro-Horsham Kyle McGrath said. “Defensively, we were very sound across the back four in handling Archbishop Wood’s dangerous attackers. Nick Bellizzie, Conor Colletto, Leighton Saxer and Haiden Yoder were able to hold the Vikings off the scoreboard.
“Sophomore goalkeeper Owen Fagan recorded 8 saves including crucial diving save in the second half to keep the score knotted at 0-0. This was his fourth shutout of the season.”
Hatboro-Horsham coach Kyle McGrath:
“Offensively, things were a bit of a struggle today after yesterday’s eruption. We did not have the same success with playing the channels to our forwards, and we were never able to adapt to Wood’s defenders. Lucas Smith and Leighton Saxer had our best two chances with the latter hitting the crossbar from distance.
“The effort from the whole group today was very strong. Back-to-back 80-minute games is always a challenge, and our guys responded well with a gritty performance. I typically do not like scheduling back-to-back games as I don’t believe it is fair to the players, who don’t get a chance to recover properly.
“Unfortunately, with how the schedule fell this fall, this was our only option to hold our yearly match with Wood. The warmer weather made things challenging as well, and we rotated guys quite a bit while earning what most coaches would consider a good point against a top Philadelphia Catholic League team.”
Up next: Hatboro-Horsham will host Upper Dublin on Tuesday.
