Check out the recaps for SOL boys’ soccer teams in action Saturday.
Non-league
HATBORO-HORSHAM 1, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0
Isaac Kakiko scored his first varsity goal early in the second half, and that goal stood the rest of the way as the Hatters held on for the non-league win on Saturday morning.
“It was a big win for us,” HH coach Kyle McGrath said. “Obviously, with us having only two non-league games, it’s important to win both of those. East is going to be a team that wins a lot of games.
“We were frustrated after the Wednesday game at Abington (a 2-1 loss). We didn’t feel like we performed where we wanted to be. It was a good bounce-back for the boys. Early morning on a holiday week, it could have been easy for us to mail it in and finish the week with two losses, but I challenged them at practice yesterday, and they came out and put a good performance in today.”
Kakiko scored the only goal the Hatters would need in the 46thminute, using a Jake Freedman assist.
“I thought East probably had the better of play the first 15 or 20 minutes, and then we started to get into the game a little bit – early morning start,” McGrath said. “Anthony Pumilia and Jake Freedman had a nice little sequence along the sideline, and Jake got to the end line near the corner flag, and he was able to beat two guys on the dribble. He played a ball across the box, and Isaac Kakiko finished it for his first high school goal.”
The Hatters’ coach was pleased with his team’s performance.
“Any time we can shut out CB East or any team from their league, it’s a great performance,” McGrath said. “Our back four – Jacob Kim, Matt Wingen, Brian Cooper and Tommy Shegogue – did a very good job against their forwards, they did a very good job against their key guy, Brandan Epstein.
“Freedman is on the scoresheet with an assist, but he was a menace in the center midfield, just winning a lot of balls, breaking up plays, making things a bit easier for our backs. He and Paul Guevara at center mid did a real good job today.”
Hatboro-Horsham (2-1, 1-1 SOL) will travel to Plymouth Whitemarsh on Wednesday, and Central Bucks East (2-2, 1-1) will be on the road at Pennridge on Wednesday.

FATHER JUDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST
The Bucks scored first in an early morning road game at Judge and looked to be in good shape when they broke a scoreless tie with a goal early in the second half. Judge, however, answered with three straight goals and held on to earn the non-league win.
“It was a pretty even game for the most part, and then we came out hot in the second half for the first 5-10 minutes,” West coach Cooper Moyer said. “Then after we scored, it was like we forgot how to defend, and they rattled off three goals in a row.
“We were able to steal one back with under a minute left, but it was too late. We were like a roller coaster in terms of how we played. One minute we were doing really good things on the ball, and the next minute, it looked like we had never touched a soccer ball before. Judge was a strong team with some really dynamic playmakers and tremendous size. They were very organized and well coached.”
Central Bucks West (1-2, 1-1 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks South on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.
Central Bucks West 0-2. 2
Father Judge 0-3. 3
