COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 71, HOLY GHOST PREP 43
The visiting Golden Hawks used a 24-8 second quarter to seize control of a close game, turning a three-point lead into a 39-20 halftime advantage.
“It was really a good team effort all the way throughout,” Rock South coach Andrew Rogers said. “Coach (Tom) Heston does a great job.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 70, NAZARETH ACADEMY 57
The Golden Hawks put on an offensive clinic in Saturday’s non-league contest, not only torching the Pandas’ defense for 70 points but burying 15 shots from beyond the arc.
In a preview of things to come, the Golden Hawks put 23 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter, taking an all but insurmountable 23-5 lead. Fiona Reckner led the offensive onslaught in a quarter that included five 3-pointers with 10 points, which included 2 3s. Four different players contributed treys in the quarter.
“This was a very fast paced and intense game,” Rock South coach Jesse Krasna said. “Both rows of bleachers were filled at Nazareth, and fans on both sides were very vocal about the physicality in what felt like a throwback CYO game.
“We were able to build a big lead early, but Nazareth made a nice run in the fourth quarter to cut our lead to 11.”
Nazareth found its offensive stride in the second quarter, outscoring the Hawks 19-16 in the frame and 33-29 in the second half, but they never put a dent in the Hawks’ early lead.
Reckner’s 19 points included four 3-pointers. Camryn Gregory also had four 3s and finished with 13 points. Lil Metrick added 12 points, including three treys, and Lil Bross contributed eight points with two 3-pointers. Kathryn O’Kane had six points
“Lil Metrick, Fiona Reckner and Cam Gregory had it going offensively for us,” Krasna said.
“Fi has been on a tear shooting the ball from the 3-point line, and she knocked down four more of them today.
“Cam was really patient and efficient with her looks. She took what the defense gave her and made them pay when she was left open.
“Lily Bross handled pressure well, came up with some attitude rebounds and gave us a bunch of scoring, too.”
Katie Purpura led the Golden Hawks under the backboards with 11 rebounds.
“She had 13 rebounds in our last game,” Krasna said. “It’s so impressive how she is able to control the backboard as a 5-6 guard. Rebounding is such an important area for our team.”
Council Rock South (7-3, 4-2 SOL) is off until Friday, Jan. 5, when the Golden Hawks will travel to Central Bucks West.
