CONESTOGA 53, NESHAMINY 48
The Redskins hung tough, battling the visiting Pioneers from wire to wire but came up just short.
“It was a great game – back and forth all night,” Neshaminy coach Mark Tingle said. “They’re a good team, and we didn’t get enough stops to win.”
Conestoga, which led 10-9 after one quarter, took a 23-22 lead into halftime. Emeer Coombs’ seven points led the Redskins in the half. In the third quarter, Neshaminy put 16 points on the board – led by Joey Zack’s eight points, but the Pioneers scored 17 and took a 40-38 lead into the final quarter when they outscored the Redskins 13-10. Conestoga connected on 7 of 12 at the foul line in the final frame.
Zack’s 11 points and eight rebounds led the Redskins. Sean Curley also had 11 points while Emeer Coombs had nine and Nate Townsend added eight.
Eight of 13 Conestoga’s field goals were from beyond the arc.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 65, JM BARRACK HEBREW ACADEMY 20
Seven players contributed six or more points in a balanced scoring effort in the visiting Golden Hawks decisive win in Monday’s non-league opener.
“We had good balance today,” Rock South coach Blair Klumpp said. “We got off to a bit of a slow start; we missed some shots at the rim, felt like we rushed a bit. We then turned some defense into offense, and it got us going as a group. We really picked up our rotations and intensity the second quarter and got out in transition.
“We need to keep working together and improving collectively- both as coaches and as players. Today was a good start, our expectations are pretty high, and in order to hit some of those goals, it will continue to take a lot of hard work, effort, and sacrifice. Our seniors are doing a really good job leading in different ways. We have a busy week this week and need to make sure we are prepared for New Foundations on Thursday.”
The Golden Hawks led by just a 10-7 score after one quarter but blew the game wide open with a 26-2 scoring burst in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 36-9 lead. They outscored their hosts 29-9 in the second half.
Sophomore Liliana Metrick’s 14 points – which included four 3-pointers – led the Golden Hawks. Senior Karissa Smedley added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kathryn O’Kane added eight points and five assists, and Lily Bross had eight points, four rebounds and three steals while Jessica Mangoni contributed seven points, four rebounds and two blocks. Fiona Reckner finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists, and Cam Gregory also had six points. Katie Purpura had five assists and four steals while Darcy Leight added three steals.
“Med’s double-double will garner a lot of attention as it should because it was so efficient, and her leadership again was really good,” Klumpp said. “But from a coaching standpoint and just a fan of basketball, you feel really good for Darcy Leight and Jess Mangoni, our other two seniors. Darcy transferred in as sophomore during the COVID season, and since she got here, she has done everything asked of her and been the ultimate team player. You really like seeing someone like that come into their comfort zone within the program, have a role and see her be successful.
“And Jess Mangoni missed all of last season, all of AAU live periods and has every reason to wonder ‘what if’ and ‘I’m going to get mine or make up for lost time.’ But her focus is on us hitting our team goals. She was probably playing the best out of anyone when she got hurt last year, so just to see her get back on the court and be very productive today was great. You get pure joy and happiness seeing that. She had some blocks that jumpstarted us in transition and got us going a bit. We have a good mix of sophomores, juniors and seniors getting opportunities, and if as a group we can follow the mentality and approach our three seniors have, we should truly get better each day.”
