Colson Campbell’s 22 points – which included a 7-for-9 effort at the foul line – led the Golden Bears in Thursday’s rivalry game.
Eleven players contributed scoring for the Bears, who capitalized on 31 trips to the foul line and took control of the game in the second half.
Also for UM, Larry Hughes added 10 points.
For the Hatters, Shane Phillips led the way with 17 points, which included five 3-pointers. Kenny Lutz added 15 points, and Ryan Smith had 12.
Key stretch: UM took a two-point lead into halftime and outscored the Hatters 39-28 in the second half.
Player of the game: UM’s Colson Campbell scored a game-high 22 points.
Upper Moreland coach Dan Heiland: “Overall, very happy with the team effort. We still have room for improvement and growth. We keep stressing to the team to stay hungry and not be satisfied
“The key to the win was down the stretch we had key stops defensively with one and done possessions and good execution offensively to get high percentage scoring opportunities, and we got to the free throw line and made free throws. Larry Hughes was 6-for-7 from the line, most of those coming in the second half to close the game out.”
—Props: “Colson Campbell led us in scoring with 22 points. He did a nice job of controlling the pace of play in the second half. He was able to get to spots on the floor to create for himself and his teammates and we made winning plays all night.
“Nate Best was also instrumental late in the game with his guard play to help close out the game.”
–Reserves deliver: “Luke Roussel had nine points tonight and was a huge lift off the bench on both sides of the floor – playing tough defense, rebounding the ball and scoring when opportunities were there. Cannon Campbell stepped in and played really well defensively late in the second half to limit one of their top scorers and help secure the win.”
“Most pleased with how our bench played tonight. We had another game with really good bench contributions from Luke Roussel, Tommy Jeinnings, Alex Costanzo, Aidan Tuffy, Cannon Campbell and Jose Hernandez. They all did their role and did it very well. We had 11 players in the box score tonight, which shows how we look to share the ball and trust our teammates. Which is very encouraging as a coach.”
Hatboro-Horsham coach Bill Coleman: “We need to be able to defend without fouling – 31 free throw attempts is very hard to overcome by any team.”
Up next: Upper Moreland (3-0) will host Wissahickon in a non-league game Tuesday, and Hatboro-Horsham (1-1) will host Upper Merion on Friday.

The Golden Bears won a spirited non-league rivalry game.
UM opened up an 11-5 lead after one quarter and took a 19-7 lead into halftime, but the Hatters came roaring back, using a 13-4 third quarter to pull to within three heading into the final quarter (23-20).
The Hatters trimmed that lead to two at one point and saw a 3-pointer for the lead go in and out, but the Golden Bears held on for the win.
Mikel Lancit led the Golden Bears with 12 points, and Lianna Adames added six.
For the Hatters, Olivia Grant and Maddy Patel both had eight points while Madison Siegfried had seven.
Upper Moreland coach Josh Adelman: “It wasn’t the prettiest game, but we walked away with an important win.
“We led 19-7 at the half, but it is a rivalry game, and HH was very stingy with their zone defense and patient with their offense. We seemed to always come up with a timely steal off our press and converted some timely layups.
“Hatboro-Horsham is well coached, and rivalry games in front of a nice crowd are always fun. It was also our Elementary Night, and the kids cheered on the team to victory.”
–Props: “Mikel Lancit again led us with 12 points, and six other players scored points for us. Our defense has been pretty good this year and can frustrate opponents, especially if our offense is struggling.”
Hatboro-Horsham assistant coach Nicole Miletto: “We were still out two starters, but freshman forward Olivia Grant had a huge game for us. She played some for us in our first game, but tonight she played a lot of minutes and started for us. She had 10 rebounds and three blocks to go with her eight points. She was aggressive and composed on the floor.
“We played good team defense and did a decent job on (Mikel) Lancit, who is nice player. Our turnovers really hurt us and not having a point guard right now puts lots of pressure on the rest of the guards. We had some nice looks but missed some shots at crucial points. Although it’s a loss for us, we were pleased with the effort and energy that the girls brought tonight. It helped that it was a girls/boys doubleheader, and there were lots of fans that brought the energy as well. UM is always a tough game for us, and it’s fun rivalry. Unfortunately, we didn’t come out on top this time.”
Next up: Upper Moreland (3-0) will face Bristol on Saturday (1 pm) as part of the Bristol Tournament, and Hatboro-Horsham (0-3) will host Archbishop Ryan in a non-league game on Monday.

LOWER MORELAND 57, INTERBORO 19
Brianna McFerran and Dani Brusha combined for 38 points to lead the visiting Lions to the no-doubt-about-it win.
The Lions – behind seven points from Nikki Sahl – opened up a 21-6 lead after one quarter and extended that to 43-13 by halftime. McFadden had 18 of her game-high 20 points in the first half while Brusha had 12.
Key stretch: “Nikki Sahl came off of the bench in the first quarter to get a couple steals, and on back-to-back possessions, she had a four-point play followed by a three-point ‘and-one’ play. After sitting in traffic for 80 minutes to get to Interboro then another hour for the JV game, we were not sharp to start, Nikki really got us going.”
Players of the game: Brianna McFerran (20 points) & Dani Brusha (18 points – three 3-pointers)
Lower Moreland coach Rich Becker: “Our girls are playing with a lot of energy, and that starts with our two senior captains, Brianna McFerran and Dani Brusha. Bri once again was all over the court on defense and had 18 first-half points. Dani is just as active on defense, I think she had six steals tonight, and she’s really growing into a true leader both in the games and in practice. Once again Briana and Dani set the tone for us.”
Up next: Lower Moreland (2-0) will host Central Bucks South in a non-league game Monday.

GARNET VALLEY 72, ABINGTON 53
The Adamski sisters have been a triple threat since twins Addison and Kylie came on board last year as freshmen, joining older sister Haylie. The trio certainly did their share of damage in Thursday’s non-league game at Abington, combining for 52 of their team’s points.
The visiting Jaguars, who led 19-10 after one quarter, took a 41-28 lead into halftime on their way to the win.
Maya Johnson led the Ghosts with 20 points, and Mikiaya Durham added 19, including five 3-pointers. Aniyah Williams had nine points.
For the Jaguars, Haylie Adamski’s 22 points led the way while Kylie Adamski had 21. Addison Adamski chipped in nine points.
Abington coach Allison Lawson: “We knew coming in tonight this was going to be a tough game. Kudos to Garnet Valley – they shot the ball really well from the outside.
“We only have two girls that have varsity basketball experience, so we just need to continue to battle and learn from each night. We need to find a way to limit the turnovers and mental mistakes at crunch time.”
Next up: Abington (0-3) will face another tough challenge on Friday when the Ghosts travel to Germantown Academy (5 pm).
