Boys
SOUDERTON 9, NORTH PENN 6
Walker Martin – the program’s all-time career goal leader – connected for a hat trick and also had an assist, but he had plenty of help as six players contributed on nine goals for the Indians.
The result was a hard fought non-league win over their neighboring rival in Friday’s season opener.
“It was a total team win,” Souderton coach Mark Princehorn said. “Our defensive mids, Nick Guthre and Fergas Evanick, were the unsung heroes and players of the game, along with LSM (long stick midfielder) Luke Atiyeh, who led the team in ground balls.
“Axell Beskar preserved the win with a standout performance in goal. It was a sloppy game, and we need to correct our mistakes to be where we want to be come May. I was very proud of their effort tonight.”
Jalen White and Cole Witoslawski each added a pair of goals while Stephen Blue had a goal and an assist. Dylan Anderson added a single goal, and Luke Atiyeh had an assist.
Beskar recorded 13 saves in goal for the Indians, who led 7-5 at halftime.
Souderton (1-0) will travel to Neshaminy for a non-league on Monday, and North Penn (0-1) will host Boyertown in a non-league contest on Tuesday.
QUAKERTOWN 11, PLEASANT VALLEY 10 (OT)
Ben McGann scored an overtime goal to propel the Panthers to the dramatic non-league win in Friday’s opener. Heading into OT, the Panthers were forced to kill the time remaining on a three-minute penalty assessed in the fourth quarter that carried into overtime.
McGann had a huge night for the Panthers, scoring four goals and adding four assists. Jeff Royal added four goals and one assist.
Dan Grubb led the Panthers with 11 ground balls.
“Zach Lewis – shortstick defensive mid – played great defense and also had one goal,” coach Jay Donis said.
Quakertown (1-0) will host Liberty in a non-league game on Monday.
HATBORO-HORSHAM 8, ARCHBISHOP RYAN 0
The Hatters opened the season with an impressive shutout win over the Raiders.
Ian Reilley had a big game on attack, scoring five goals and assisting on another. He also was one of four Hatters with four ground balls. Michael Brown added two goals and four ground balls. Jason Kleintz had an assist and six ground balls, and closing out the scoring was Jack Hartmaier with one goal and two ground balls.
Drew Robinson was credited with five ground balls while Davis Wheeler and Kyle Rudolph both had four ground balls. Dylan Fesmire had three ground balls and Jake Rickard had two ground balls.
Hatboro-Horsham (1-0) will host Central Bucks East on Tuesday.
PENNSBURY 13, UPPER MORELAND 2
Nick Sutton turned in a glittering five-goal, two assist effort to lead the visiting Falcons. Colby Seneca also had a big day, contributing two goals, one assist and a team-high nine ground balls.
The visiting Falcons seized early control of Friday’s season opener, erupting for six goals in the first quarter to go on top 6-1. They took a 7-1 lead into halftime and outscored the Golden Bears 6-1 in the second half.
Also for the Falcons, Ryan DeZutel added a pair of goals, and Jesse Keaton had a goal and two assists. Contributing one goal each were Josh Price, Gavin Fleming and Luke Wilson. Shane Siegmund and David Foschini each had an assist.
Luke Nolan (two saves) and Nico Cione (three saves) combined for the win in goal.
Pennsbury (1-0) will travel to Council Rock South for Monday’s SOL opener. Upper Moreland (0-1) will be on the road at Lansdale Catholic for a non-league game Monday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 16, ABINGTON 7
Sophomore Luke Walstrum made it an opening day to remember, scoring six goals and assisting on four others. He also won nine of 11 face-offs. Junior Peter Lehman also had a huge day on attack, scoring six goals and assisting on another. Beckett Thompson added two goals and one assist while Nate Lewis and Shane Bradley each had a single goal. Dean Scalamandre had a pair of assists.
Max Harar’s three ground balls led the Indians. Robbie Kay turned away 16 shots in a winning effort in goals.
For the Ghosts, Marco McAfee’s four-goal effort led the way. Nate Rose and Dimitri Sarver both had a goal and two assists. Rose and Kevin Fitz each had seven ground balls to lead the Ghosts. Alex Woll had six ground balls.
Council Rock North (1-0) will host neighboring Archbishop Wood in a non-league game on Monday at Walt Snyder Stadium (5 p.m.). Abington (0-1) will travel to Upper Merion for a non-league game Tuesday.
PENNRIDGE 9, WISSAHICKON 6
The visiting Rams won a tightly-contested non-league game, rallying from a 4-2 halftime deficit to outscore the Trojans 7-2 in the second half.
Nick Fanelli led the charge, scoring four goals. Logan Lazasz (three goals, one assist) and Kevin Britner (two goals, two assists) both had a hand in four goals. Matt Nevells added an assist.
Austin Swartley earned the win in goal, turning away 10 shots.
Pennridge (1-0) will travel to Souderton on Wednesday for a non-league game between the neighboring rivals.

Girls
ABINGTON 13, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 5
The Ghosts took a tenuous 5-3 lead into halftime and then erupted for eight goals in the second half.
“It’s nice to have the first game under our belts with a win, but we still have a lot of things to improve on,” Abington coach Mary Kate Klepper said. “Council Rock South had to play a man down the last 15 minutes due to yellow cards.
“We were able to work the ball around and capitalize on our shots as well as get possession off the draw. Definitely a team win with eight people scoring, and it started with our defense clearing the ball.”
Abby Thomas and Lauren Van Buren both collected a hat trick to lead the Ghosts. Kaley Ehnow had two goals and an assist, and Jamira Mashore added a goal and three assists. Adding one goal each were Grace Hinkle, Abby Johnson, Janelle Baer and Sam Simon.
Ellie Hughes recorded four saves in a winning effort in goal.
Abington (1-0) will host William Penn Charter in a non-league game on Tuesday. Council Rock South (0-1) will host Lansdale Catholic in a non-league game on Monday.

Riley Forman scored seven goals in a glittering offensive performance to lead the Patriots. Brigitte Bishop and Katie Powell had big performances of their own as both scored four goals. Quinn Ferry spent the game setting up her teammates, handing out five assists and scoring one goal. Courtney Mackenzie had two goals and one assist. Kieran Fink also had an assist.
Central Bucks East (1-0) will host Upper Moreland in a non-league game Monday.
UPPER MORELAND 14, LOWER MORELAND 3
Cassidy Hirsch scored four goals and assisted on another while Emma Meakim had a hand in six goals, connecting for a hat trick and assisting on three others. Meghan O’Donnell added two goals and two assists while Moira Olexa had a goal and two assists. Adding one goal and one assist were AbbyEllen Wood and Alexis Lamb. Kayla Meakim contributed a single goal to the Golden Bears’ attack.
Olexa also had eight draw controls while Hirsch, Wood and Lamb each had two. Car Morrow added one draw control.
Sarah Pickard recorded three saves in goal in a winning effort for the Golden Bears.
Upper Moreland (1-0) will travel to Central Bucks East for a non-league game Monday.
METHACTON 12, SOUDERTON 7
The visiting Indians took a 6-4 lead into halftime but managed just one goal the rest of the way.
Riley McGowan’s five-goal, one-assist effort led the Indians. Kylie Norbeck and Sofia Sclafani each had one goal. Clark Trowbridge and Lauren Kenah both had one assist.
Lauren Scott turned away 14 shots in a strong outing in goal.
Souderton (0-1) will travel to West Chester Henderson for a non-league game on Tuesday.

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 18, UPPER DUBLIN 7
The visiting Patriots raced out of the gate to an 8-2 lead and never looked back, outscoring the Flying Cardinals 10-5 in the second half.
Mack Moore led the Flying Cardinals with two goals and two assists while Jen McCarry had two goals and one assist. Julia Reardon also had a pair of goals. Becky Browndorf added a single goal and Michelle Wright chipped in with an assist.
Upper Dublin (0-1) will travel to Wilson for a non-league game on Monday.

RADNOR 18, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 2
The visiting Red Raiders looked every bit the part of the district power they are, opening up an 11-1 halftime lead on their way to the big win.
Max Leszozynski and Raquel Baskin each scored a goal for the Colonials.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (0-1) will host Downingtown East in a non-league game on Tuesday.
