Check out the recaps for SOL boys/girls lacrosse teams in action on Wednesday.

Boys
UPPER DUBLIN 10, UNIONVILLE 9 (OT)
Jerry Bardol scored a man-up goal for the game winner, bringing a dramatic end to a game that, according to coach Dave Sowers, was a character win if ever there was one.
It certainly took every ounce of character the Flying Cardinals had to dig themselves out of a 7-2 halftime hole against the visiting Indians.
“We came out and we were flat and very unfocused, and it was just one of those things,” Sowers said. “I like to call my timeouts for possession, but I had to call them just to refocus them.
“Lucas Roselli has the flu and he was 2-for-9 (on faceoffs) in the first half. His focus wasn’t there, but he settled in.”
Roselli was a difference maker in the second half, winning eight of 10 faceoffs.
He wasn’t the only one who was struggling for the Cardinals in the first half.
“Dillon (Lojeski), our goalie, wasn’t seeing the ball at all,” Sowers said. “It was just one of those things. I knew we just had to get through the half and get to halftime. We’ll make the adjustments and do what we have to do.”
Sowers opted to replace Lojeski between the pipes with sophomore Sam Hoffman.
“I really credit my senior captain goalie, who really was not seeing the ball,” the Flying Cardinals’ coach said. “It was one of the toughest decisions for me to do. That kid could have easily stood behind and gotten upset.
“But he sensed – today wasn’t my day, and he was right there supporting Sammy, who I put in at halftime. When we scored the game winner, the first one sprinting off the bench is Dillon, showing his leadership. I’m sure it was killing him inside, eating him up that he was pulled.
“I said to the team at the end of the game – ‘Guess who will be starting Tuesday night against Owen J Roberts?’ It will be Dillon, and I know he will be focused. It was one of those things where we had to grab some kids and get them focused. Lucas (Roseli) got focused, and the defense really came along.
“We made some adjustments at halftime, and our offense got untracked. It was really a credit to the kids. To me, at the end of the day, it was a character win. This 2018 team made a statement to themselves, not to anybody else, and said, ‘You know what, we don’t quit.’”
The Cardinals, who trailed 8-6, at the end of three quarters still trailed 9-7. Max Winebrake connected on his sixth goal of the night to make it a one-goal game, and Cary Romig scored the equalizer late in regulation, setting the stage for overtime and Bardol’s game winner.
“We had a man up, and we kind of went through our look, and it wasn’t there,” Sowers said. “The ball was on the ground, so I called a timeout.
“We brought them over, and the offensive group went with the offensive coaches. I just walked in and said, ‘Listen, follow the play we’re going to draw up because we’re going to win it right here.’ I credit Haldy Gifford and Ryan White – they drew up a play and the boys executed and we win it in overtime.”
In addition to Winebrake’s six-goal effort, Bardol had a goal and three assists, Colin Asper had a goal and two assists while Romig and Jason Williams both had one goal and one assist.
Roselli led the Cards with nine ground balls. Nick Sowers had four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Wiliams, Asper, Anthony Cerminara, Jake DiMartile and Brody Balasa each had three ground balls. Balasa also had three caused turnovers and DiMartile had two. Bardol had two ground balls while Sam Kassar and Dan Johnson had one each.
“It’s a young season, and we don’t have any superstars on this team,” Sowers said. “We have no Division I players. Our motto right now is we just have to grind and work as hard as we can for 48 minutes.
“Unionville is a really well-coached team. They’re coached by Steve Holmes who did a year at Upper Dublin. He went to GA and was multiple sport athlete – he played football and lacrosse. He played for Virginia. He’s a great coach, and he has his Unionville kids playing really well.”
Upper Dublin (2-0) will be on the road at Owen J Roberts on Tuesday.

PENNSBURY 8, INTERBORO 6
Twenty-four hours after eking out a one-goal win over Marple Newtown, the Falcons found themselves in another close one, rallying from an early 3-1 deficit to earn the win.
“The team I have this year – honestly, I don’t look at the scoreboard too much because we’re never out of it,” coach Drew Artin said. “These kids are very resilient, and we find a way to finish it out and stick in games.
“Even yesterday, I couldn’t tell where we sat at the end of quarters. We’ve had two tight games, but the boys are so resilient. They’re finally buying into the culture and the unselfish play, and they’re reaping the results right now.”
By halftime, the Falcons had knotted the score 4-4, and they took a 6-5 lead into the final quarter on their way to the win.
“I’m really proud of the boys that they’ve been about to finish out tight games,” Artin said. “In the past, we’ve kind of thrown our sticks down or put our heads down and kind of caved in, but I think we’re buying into each other.
“The offense trusts the defense, and the defense trusts the offense. Our goalie play and our face-off play has been great, so all around, we’ve been a very tough team and not giving up. I’m happy that we pulled out two close games. This is one of the years – I know the potential, and we’re not even close to it yet.”
Tim Davis turned away eight shots in a winning effort in goal for the Falcons. Jake Krefetz won 12 of 18 faceoffs and also contributed an assist and had four ground balls.
Ben Abraham led the offense with three goals and two assists, and Cole Ruoff added one goal and two assists. Luke Vando had one goal and one assist to go along with three ground balls. Bryse Raniello led the Falcons with six ground balls. Raniello and Max Jackman each scored a goal.
“The greatest thing is every one of the guys who plays has contributed,” Artin said. “Some of the guys are getting their name in the stat book, but everyone is pitching in, whether it’s at practice or in a game. They’re making a play, they’re making the right decisions out there, and that ultimately is leading to our wins.”

“Some unsung heroines would be Liv Fitzgerald, who had a lot of hustle on the draw and re-defend, and Maddy McGarry had a great day defensively with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
