CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 8, PENNRIDGE 6
(Article submitted by Central Bucks East lacrosse)
The CB East Patriots and Pennridge Rams engaged in an intense conference match-up in Doylestown on Wednesday. Buoyed by a four-goal outburst from junior Logan Lazasz, the Rams were able to challenge the home team but ultimately fell to the Patriots, and their balanced scoring, by an 8-6 score.
The Patriots possessed the ball for the majority of the game due to Michael Ott winning 15 of 17 face-offs on the day.
The game started as a defensive struggle until Ryan Stout got the Patriots on the board with 10 seconds remaining in the first. An early second period goal by Ott gave East a 2-0 lead, but the Rams countered with a goal at the 10:04 mark in the second period. Greg Scholz scored on a nice fast break feed from Ryan Carroll with 7:35 left to play to put the Patriots up by 2, but the Rams answered again on Logan Lazasz’s first goal of the game with 5:17 left to play in the half to pull within one. Five minutes later, with only 17 seconds remaining in the half, Brant Billingsley was able to find the back of the net on a nice individual move to put the Pats up 4-2 going into the break.
The Rams came out strong in the second half with Lazasz scoring two goals to tie the game at four. But East buckled down and was able to get goals by Jacob Manion and Carroll late in the period to take a 6-4 lead going into the fourth. The Rams’ Nick Fanelli scored quickly in the final quarter to pull within one, and despite another goal by Lazasz, the Patriots were able to get a crucial, timely goal by Jake Ventresca, and one more by Stout to secure the Patriots win.

SOUDERTON 8, UPPER DUBLIN 6
Two days after notching a convincing win over Upper Moreland, the Indians pulled off their biggest win of the season with a road win over the Flying Cardinals.
“It was a tough game,” Souderton coach Nancy Offner said. “I think both teams were sloppy at times, but we managed to stick together as a team and just really play with heart. I think that’s what pulled us through the game.”
The Indians spent a whole lot of time playing defense in Wednesday’s key conference battle, and no one played it better than goalie Lauren Scott, whose 18-save effort was the difference in the game.
“Upper Dublin outshot (us) by almost double, but Lauren Scott kept us grounded on the defensive side of the field and in the game to the end with 18 saves,” Offner said. “She was a rock star in goal today.
“Our defense has been playing awesome together. They really are jelling well, they’re communicating well, and that was a huge difference in this game because we spent a lot of time in our defensive end because they have a very strong offense. They really held it together.”
Anchoring the Indians on the defensive side of the field were Ceci Puente (one caused turnover), Kayla Moyer (two caused turnovers), Sophia Lynch (two caused turnovers) and Juliana Borisow (one caused turnover).
“Our midfielders that come in – Carlie Doughty and Sarah Goodwin – are very strong midfielders defensively,” Offner said. “Our defense really has been playing well together. All six of them are seniors, so they’ve been playing together for a long time.”
On attack, Randi Hess and Riley McGowan each had two goals. McGowan also had one caused turnover. Adding one goal each were Anna Anello, Avery Doughty, Carlie Doughty and Sarah Goodwin. Doughty had one caused turnover, and Goodwin also had two assists and two caused turnovers. Liz O’Hara and Mariah Bainbridge each added a caused turnover.
“What we’re noticing is we have a lot of people scoring,” Offner said. “So there’s a lot of people contributing, and it really makes it feel like it’s a full team effort, which is nice.”
The Indians’ coach is hoping her team’s recent wins are a sign of good things to come.
“This was huge, and we’re hoping this week can kind of turn us around,” Offner said. “We’ve played some extremely good teams, and we’ve learned a lot from some of our losses.
“Just watching a team like West Chester Henderson play, you can learn so much from a loss like that. Winning these two league games and moving forward, it gives them some confidence. It’s a great time of the season to have that win.”
For the Flying Cardinals, Becky Browndorf led the way with two goals and one assist, and Jackie Rama added a goal and an assist. Jenn McCarry, Maddie Templeton and Caroline Wall each had one goal. Mack Moore had a pair of assists. Sarah Herchenroder had two saves in goal.
