WISSAHICKON 13, UPPER MORELAND 12 (2 OT)
The Trojans rallied from a late three-goal deficit to knot the score on a goal by Carolyn Wilde (Emily Vervlied assist) with 57 seconds remaining in regulation, and it was Wilde winning it in the second overtime period, again using a Vervlied assist.
“It was a big turnaround, and we were excited,” coach Patty Kovacs said. “I called them in and just said, ‘This is going to help with playoffs. We need to really work hard and get it together.’ They buckled down, got aggressive and went to the ball.
“Upper Moreland played great – they were really aggressive. Yesterday was a tough loss (to Abington), and coming off that, we really needed this win.”
There was also reason to celebrate for the Golden Bears, who saw senior Delaney Smith score four goals with the final goal vaulting her to the 200-goal milestone.
“I didn’t want her to think about it because I knew she had 196 going into today,” coach Pam Remmey said. “I told her to let the goals come to her because she is such a special player. If she just lets the goals come to her, she can do it.”
Smith’s four-goal effort capped a week that saw her score 16 goals in three games. Her attempt for a fifth in overtime ricocheted off the goal post.
“It was a beautiful shot,” Remmey said. “She’s just a natural athlete.
“She had a fantastic game at both ends of the field. To be playing three games in the row, that’s really tough.”
Although the Golden Bears came up just short on Wednesday, Remmey had nothing but good things to say about her team’s performance in a week that included a big win over Hatboro-Horsham one day earlier.
“I just feel like we really came together in this last week,” the Golden Bears’ coach said. “They’ve been getting better every game.
“They put together 50 minutes today and yesterday, and they haven’t done that before. It was just a great game. We were up by three, and we tried to go into a stall with six minutes left, and we just couldn’t do it. It was tough to stall the ball with six minutes. We really haven’t been in one-goal games, and they got very nervous and made some mistakes.”
Smith finished the game with four goals, one assist and three draw controls. Sydney Bachmayer had four goals and one assist. Jess Flanagan had three goals, and Allison Felicetti had one goal and four draw controls.
Remmey lauded the strong play of Felicetti and Madison Pisut.
“Maddie Pisut is a defender, and she just goes and goes and goes,” the Golden Bears’ coach said. “She goes up on attack, she never needs a break. She just goes.”
“The great thing about today and yesterday was – it wasn’t just three people playing the game. Yesterday was a team win. Everyone was passing the ball to everyone, everyone was trusting each other, and our defense played well, which is why we beat Hatboro.”
Vervlied contributed five goals and three assists to lead the Trojans. Wilde ended the game with three goals. Christina Tsiobikas added two goals and an assist while Sam Intrieri had one goal and Claire Tarzia had one goal and one assist. Vervlied and Intrieri led the Trojans with five ground balls each. Megan DeGroat and Wilde had four each. Talia Abrahams, Tarzia and Marie Dickson earned two each. Vervlied had two draw controls. Intrieri, DeGroat, Tarzia and Wilde each had one draw control.

NORTH PENN 11, SOUDERTON 7
Sarah Goodwin scored a quick goal in the opening minute of the game to spot the Indians an early 1-0 lead. The Maidens answered with back-to-back goals. A pattern for the first half had been established.
“We continued to exchange goals and eventually put in a couple unanswered goals to take the lead 7-5 at the half,” coach Heather Mellow said.
The visiting Maidens outscored the Indians 4-2 in the second half.
“We continued to take a lot of time off the clock in the second half, and made Souderton have to pressure us,” Mellow said. “A couple of times Souderton capitalized on some simple mistakes we made in transition.”
Back-to-back goals by Bri O'Donnell, who assisted on another, put the Maidens up 10-6 with four minutes remaining.
“After being pressured, Kaitlyn Phifer put in an insurance goal with 1:40 left to put us up 11-6,” Mellow said.
Souderton’s Riley McGowan found the net with only 25 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
“My team was hungry tonight,” Mellow said. “It's always a good rivalry game against Souderton. We were still pretty bitter about our loss last year against them and wanted to turn the tables.
“We played a bit sloppy in the first half with overthrown passes and some questionable decisions, but we capitalized on some of Souderton's mistakes in the second half. We are also really starting to play better as a complete unit. I was very proud of my team tonight! There’s no time to rest or celebrate because we have another big game tomorrow night against PW for our Lax for Leukemia game.”
O’Donnell led the Maidens with four goals and two assists while Phifer added a hat trick. Jenn DeLongis had two goals while Julia Keffer and Sam Tossona both had one. Chloe Novak had a pair of assist.

HARRITON 11, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 8
The Titans came out on the short end of the score in a battle of team’s ranked fifth and seventh in the latest power rankings. The fifth-seeded Rams opened up an 8-2 halftime lead only to watch the Titans come roaring back with a 6-3 second half.
“We had a slow start but played an amazing second half and held Harriton to three goals,” coach Janique Craig said. “It was unfortunate with a few game calls because CB South had the momentum offensively.
“I am very proud of my girls for not giving up and playing through this physical game.”
According to the Titans’ coach, Harriton received three yellow cards and South, four yellow cards. Harriton was down one player in the second half at 17:32,15:32, and 7:20. CB South was down one player at 11:05 and then down two players with another card at 10:02 – which took the Titans’ goalie and a field player out of the game for a stretch. Harriton scored one goal in that span. It was a pattern that continued throughout the second half. The Titans closed out the game down a player and still won the second half 6-3.
“I couldn't be more proud of the amount of grit and character my girls had to the very end,” Craig said. “We are looking forward to playoffs and hope to see them again.”
